That is in line with the pace of the novel - slow burn.

This drama did not start that well but it was watchable nonetheless. It has since definitely hit its rhythm and it keeps getting better. It is a lot more entertaining than Sword and Brocade even though the main couple is nowhere near as good. It is not all about them, it is 4 stories about 4 couples running sort of in parallel and humorously told. I found both Yanxi Palace and Minglan so mind numbingly boring I dropped like a hot rock so I can't comment about how this compares to those.

Oh don't worry about it, this will definitely hold its own against Oath of Love.

There are some sad stories that will make you cry but you should watch anyway. This is one of those.

Honestly Luo Jin could take lessons from Ren Jialun and Bai Lu that it is not necessary to bawl your eyes out to make the audience do so.

I would add Nanchen wang is for all intents and purposes neutral. Her marriage to the emperor was blocked bc the dowager wished to check Cui family's power and not make a Cui daughter empress in waiting. Her uncle countered the move by sending her to Nanchen wang on a flimsy excuse of repairing past conflicts to buy time as he sees how the power struggles play out. Thus the CP also cannot seize power by hastening the wedding - it only happens as and when Cui family agrees and no one is gonna try to seize her from her shifu the powerful Nanchen wang by force. It is all a giant chess game but even though I am very busy and behind on episodes, it is clear the court is full of vipers. She is safest away from it. To learn stuff is just a red herring/convenient excuse. She has got a clever and cool uncle.

Yeah that struck me as odd too. I think he is supposed to be quite a bit older than the FL but for the drama they narrowed that age gap. Consequently, he is this ferocious little boy killing machine! Lol! It would make a lot more sense if he were already a young man, with the military prowess and lineage to be a contender to the throne. It is a pretty common theme that brothers of newly ascended (thus weaker/power base not secure) rulers be sent to their fiefdom or to guard the borders so as not to be a threat in the capital. Even when he did return to the capital it was key he didn't bring too many troops.
