You can just submit an edit for the synopsis. They were made by the regulators to change the name to Qi Yan and the dynasty to Xing from Tang. The synopsis was probably written before that happened.

This is too common an explanation/excuse for dumb characters. To me, it is just a sign of super lazy scriptwriting - start a character out as stupid as you can make them and then lo and behold - they grew a lot. A good writer will make a smart character grow tremendously in a more nuanced way. Its much more effective but a lot harder work.
