Ah this was such a good drama I’m sad I finished it so soooooon. Also kinda confused by the ending, does Shang…
The ending was so sad but for me it was unambigous that SXR didn't go with CFT. He already made his decision when CFT went to see him at the theater so that was their farewell. Actually SXR made that decision some time back and that was the meaning of the last opera and the private performance where she says farewell to the General. The ending scene was just what played out in CFT/both their imagination. It is sad but true to SXR character.
He isn't really a main character, he just takes up space in the beginning and then appears again a bit closer…
Well I definitely don't consider him one of the leads but he is a main character. As for where he gets his powers from that would be.a pretty major spoiler - you should see for yourself close to the end.
All the cases so far seem to be similarly set in a remote place where the suspects get narrowed down by elimination. Repetitive but it works. Second case was a bit more predictible but the first and third are really excellent.
18 episodes are out already only 6 more till the end. I decided to wait and binge them all together but I may…
I have Youku VIP it is about 6 episodes ahead but no English subs. If you google the Chinese title you may be able to find more but probably without subs.
It's good but for me, Detective L is very much more interesting
I agree with you - for all the many so-called detective shows that aired so far this year, none comes close to beating Detective L. Ancient Detective is promising though.
That was an odd transition - I think it probably got censored.
You are right - it is impossible to tell what was censored and self-censored. I only guessed it was cut because the transition was so awkward I assumed Jackie Chan would not do something so gauche but as you point out he could just be playing it safe as well. Every show faces different censors who are all just people so sometimes some shows get away with more than others. Ultimately it is just luck. I am usually sympathetic to the production teams because they put in so much effort and there is no real consistency in treatment. To me a loss of a few minutes is nothing to cry over considering I have watched shows that have lost 12+ entire episodes.

Normally I am not a binge watcher either but it is so rare to get proper mysteries like this where you get enough clues as the viewer to try to figure out what happened. So just for this I find watching at least one whole arc at a time is better because my train of thought/speculation gets broken while waiting for the next episodes. I also don't know why it is so low key.
