Ep 7: How much provisions the Zhang Yanze's invading army has depends on
how many civilians they can capture...😱👀. The casual cruelty behind that truth uttered by Feng Dao gave me chills.

I went to research a little this time period since I know very little about it and damn Prince HongZou ascended…
Yeah it was kind of miscast bc he seemed so easily led by the evil plotting ministers and opportunistic merchants, which would make sense if he were barely a child.

Peach! Where is the chart please? Thanks for doing it and the explanation. I haven’t started yet as it’s not…
Yes I hope so - I guess right now the ones we need to focus on are the ones that are filled in. I will keep a lookout for updated versions and post in photos whenever I come across one.

Apparently YouTube version is censored. Chinese commenters say so. YouTube is sensitive to gore.
Well the Duboku episodes are all about 42 minutes long. As you may know its raw content usually scrapped from Chinese sites so I doubt there are longer uncensored versions floating around.

I think you should start it bc if you don't like it you can always drop it. And selfishly, most people myself…
Ah ok - I didn't think of that. I rarely re-watch anything.😅

People still commenting while watching means the drama is still worth it.Otherwise, they’d have dropped it already.…
What I really liked about S1 of Imperial Coroner was the visual storytelling - it was super cool how the cases were unraveled like an ancient CSI. But to me it was always a procedural drama, the acting was clearly newbie, Chu Chu's VA was unbearable and the plot sagged at the end with a nothing burger of a twist/reveal. Still really excellent hidden gem for its budget and green cast. But to me, the real low budget dark horse of this genre is still Ancient Detective by a long shot. I think the script, the focus etc for IC2 has been diluted at the margin by excessive romance, misplaced feminism, poor scriptwriting but most of all it was the director. And he has been trying to shift the blame on the writers without stepping up to his own laziness. He just stopped doing cool, innovative stuff with the way the cases unravel. Apparently in S1 he also rewrote big chunks of the script but did nothing here. All of this shows and if we play the blame game, this dude should not go unscathed.

I stopped watching to watch Sword into Plowshares not bc I had no time - it was the weekend. I just couldn't take Chu Chu's pity party any more - oh poor me!!! I have to be a wang fei when I really want to be a coroner. OMG she sounds so entitled and out of sync with feudal society.

Be happy you're not reading douban comments. Everyone is getting roasted lol
I have fallen behind on this and haven't been to Douban for awhile but I thought the comments were mainly roasting the screenwriters/new writer.

I just marathoned S1 over the last 3 days. Its not a masterpiece but it was charming. They had some humourous…
I think you should start it bc if you don't like it you can always drop it. And selfishly, most people myself included only vaguely remember S1. Be interesting to hear what someone who watches them both back to back thinks.

episode 4: minute 23:38 = who is Marshal Jing?
If he was ever introduced, I missed it. But from his title 太尉 is basically the head of the military so he would be notified of the monarch's passing.

The reason people are kind of making fun of the drama is that you would normally have expected this to be Zhao Kuangyin's story and not Qian Hong WHO???
I posted more detailed spoiler thoughts on the first 6 episodes in the discussion section.

Wuyue has always been one of the most prosperous regions in China due to its location on the east coast next to the South China Sea. Today it is Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai, and Fujian - hometown of the rich and powerful Hangzhou elite which includes powerful political figures and of course it its Jack Ma/Alibaba's hometown. In history, Wuyue pursued a foreign policy of appeasement (NATO?) - they paid off the Central Plains states surrounding them to essentially go away and leave them out of their wars. So some of the c-netizens make fun of this drama as the Hangzhou elite trying to glorify their less glorious historical past. 😂 That cracks me up but I do find the story the way its told so far quite interesting. There are too many characters but there is a character map which I uploaded yesterday that highlights the important figures in each state. I think those are the only ones you really need to pay attention to.

Wow this Hu Jinsi is really audacious beyond restraint 胆大包天!
Who the hell does this old f*cker think he is??? I thought it was bad enough he just executed that soldier but to move against the Marshal like that? On whose orders??? Why is everyone scared of him?

in episode 1, it was said that Qian Hongzuo was the sixth prince.in wikipedia :https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qian_Yuanguan#FamilyQian…
Qian Yuanguan had no biological sons by age 30 so he adopted many sons and took many concubines. His own sons are all the younger ones. The drama just ranks them by seniority without making a distinction.

Indeed the young Qian HongChu is such a bright kid, can’t find his name in this cast list?
Yeah I can't find the actor listed anywhere yet either but I am sure it will pop up soon.
