I wonder if its something to do with the martial arts he uses? Cos in episode 15 with that fight scene when they are all trying to bring down Guan Qi, he uses some kind of weird palm strike move. (This is me guessing though, it could just be cos wardrobe likes dudes in black gloves :P)

Yeah that parting of the ways had me teary eyed as well - painful but also that mutual understanding/respect/loyalty. And the adviser dude acknowledging ZZY's service to them all. Pure wuxia goodness. SMZ is definitely my fav of the brothers and I hope we see more of ZZY in later episodes cos she and blind granny are my fav females in this drama.
