Oh I understand what you're talking about. So you're saying the fighting scenes aren't intense and the pacing isn't quite good. I think you're someone who enjoys intense and fast paced dramas. I think you may like Word of Honor since it didn't have those. I don't know if you have watched Korean soap opera Penthouse Although it's plot is over the top and non logic buy the drama is so fast paced and intense. It doesn't give the viewer even the minute to look a way.

Being confused has nothing to do with how the show is executed. It's an adaptation and it's the audience's job to grasp the story telling especially when it comes to Chinese dramas.

I too watched the Untamed without even knowing what genre it was let alone knowing it's an adaptation of some sort and being a non Chinese native on top of that but I watched it and the first episodes made sense in the middle and I ended up loving it and reading the novel for my unanswered questions. Not all audience will grasp something right a way and everyone has their own brain capacity. For those who read the novel, grasped it savouringly and there those who struggled but grasped it and there were those who didn't like it altogether and went for Word of Honor which didn't need people to scratch their heads. So it's a variety of sorts. Being confused isn't deliberate and the sophistication of the execution of the show can be a pro or a con depending on the brain and the IQ of the viewer.

I have to express myself with class so that I'm understood. I just expressed how I found these two dramas and how people like me found them. It's not a question which drama is better but I experienced them. It's not my thing watching an adaptation without reading it's source material. So for most BL adaptations which are filmed, I have read their source materials

So I believe the op above will enjoy Word of Honor since it has a simpler setting than the Untamed and they will love Wen Ke Xing

I know why you're struggling. You didn't read the novel on which it's based on. I don't know if you did read it but once you read the source material, you will enjoy it and everything will fall in to place.

I'm not going to argue because statistics don't represent or signify what I'm trying to say. People who found the show confused at the first episodes don't represent people who didn't like the show. Distinguish people who didn't like the show altogether and people who loved it and praised it although they found first episodes confusing (people who didn't read the novel and non Chinese I'm talking about).

I believe we don't have the percentage of people like me in the statistics since we fall in the category of those who loved the show. I wanted to prove to you that I wasn't the only one who got confused by the first episodes but loved it regardless. It's like tasting something new without knowing what it is to begin with. That's how a small fraction of us were. That doesn't mean we hated it. No. You're misunderstanding this.

As for the YouTube video I pasted, I wanted to show you It wasn't individual but a fraction of people got confused because we dived in blind. We even have some here. Another thing is that people read the novel although they're international fans. So not all international fans knew MDZS through the Untamed. The translation of this novel was out in 2018. So it had something to do with our conversation. So being confused doesn't mean one won't like something. Although I got confused but the Untamed is one of those shows which changed my taste and genre in Chinese entertainment industry altogether. As for those reactors, I can't know whether they watched it and loved or not but they were confused. I don't know if I'm really understood. There's no need for right and wrong. Hope I'm understood.

My initial comment didn't present it's self as a FACT neither my reply and I didn't say or precieve you as someone who thought of me as prejudiced but your comment came off as if I was putting Word Of Honor over the Untamed and I think that's why you disagreed with me.

Anyways, all what I said is personal and I did see people have a hard time at the beginning of the Untamed or other people telling others that the plot gets interesting after the first 10 episodes. So I believe I'm not the only one who was blind confused about the whole thing. Still this doesn't represent as universal truth or a FACT as you're stating. Like how you found it difficult to finish word of Honor, some of us didn't even want to it to finish and yes it trended at it's time as the Untamed and it has it's own fans too who enjoyed the Untamed like myself.

And you saying international fans discovered MDZS after the Untamed isn't true. Many international fans had read the novel and had doubts about the lead cast. So you saying international fans loved MDZS after the Untamed isn't a universal FACT as you didn't agree with me that there some who got confused with the first episodes.
I know you love the Untamed but the confused people like I was aren't just individuals but an audience as well like people who didn't enjoy Word of Honor. So it comes down to preferences. Like a preference between coffee and tea. If people who like coffee find people who don't like coffee, doesn't mean it's just an individual but a group of people. Have a nice evening or day !

My opinion is subjective as you may not like Word of Honor, doesn't mean it's not a drama worth watching neither does it mean it doesn't have it's own unique qualities. It's my personal analysis and anybody is free to agree and disagree.

The Untamed was my first Chinese drama and I almost dropped it on the 2nd episode because I didn't know who is who and why they're behaving like how they did but for novel fans, they understood the essence right a way. Since I'm not one to drop something I have watched till the 10th episode, I stuck at it and I'm glad I did.

You may be a MDZS fan but trust me, most people who dive in the Untamed blind, will experience what I did experience and they will even question themselves why the drama is even hyped. Long story short, after watching the drama, I had to read the novel which answered my questions and continued on with the Donghua. If I had known it was a novel adaptation, I would have read the novel first.

As for the Shan He Ling (Word of Honor) the drama is watchable even for people who wouldn't go and read the novel and the chemistry is obvious even for people who would think that they're just friends, Wen Ke Xing's behaviour does indeed show that his so called best buddy isn't just a buddy.

So in the Chinese BL line up, No Chinese BL drama is up to the Untamed except Word Of Honor, I can't even bring Guardian into the fray let alone Winter Begonia. Still it's my personal opinion. The one who asked above is free to give it a shot or not but if they like leads who go beyond than just stares, with a movable plot and Wen Ke Xing's antics, they should dive in. They won't regret.

For information, I'm not one to shy a way dramas, novels and any adaptation of any kind in the BL arena. The Untamed opened my eyes which I enjoyed very much and had difficulties to move on, then from there I started to read MXTX novels. From Mo Dao Zu Shi, to To Guan Ci Fu(Eternal faith, Heaven's official blessings) to Scum Villain. Then I went on Priest's novels like Zhen Hun ( Guardian) , the tale of the wonderers( Word of Honor or Sha He Ling, the LA is better here) Sha Po Lang (Winner is King), then to 1000 automns, after I devoured meatbun's novels. From Erha, 2HA ( husky and his white cat Shizhun, Immortality) my favourite so far! to Yuwu( stains of filth) to Bingaben (case file compendium). So between MXTX and Priest, I don't have any biases unless when meatbun is added. Meatbun is my all favourite author and I'm a die hard fan of Immortality and an active clown 🤡. So I believe my analysis didn't have any bias and that's how I honestly experienced these two dramas. To me and to answer the above question, I think it's the only costume drama which will meet their tastes similar to the Untamed or even better!

Now they will end up with nothing at this rate. Being greedy causes much loss than expected. Btw, where did you watch the comp meeting video?

The only drama which didn't cause un uproar for the actors after it's airing which is unique. It's a special drama for me.

Storywise the Untamed is better but chemistry between leads, word of honor takes the crown for me. I watched both. Both are good in their own ways and both are interesting dramas. For my first watches, word of honor has a good pacing right from the first episode although it's story isn't as layered as one of the Untamed. However, I got bored of the Untamed's first episodes because I watched it without reading the novel first but it was different for word of Honor. So both have their pros and cons. Word of Honor has good story and it's leads are grey characters with great chemistry although it's story isn't as deep as that of the Untamed. The Untamed has a deep story, good characters although the chemistry is tonned down compared to word of Honor's and confusing episodes to those who didn't read the novel.

I'm a dive into it regardless
