Probably because he wanted to perform shamanic activities behind the King's back, as the King openly disregarded…
1) I went back and watched the first episode again. Kang Cheol tries to ascend while there is a battle, war, massacre going on. During this time a child looks up at the heavens (maybe asking a god for help?) and sees Kang Cheol ascending causing him to loose his dragon body and become a spirit doomed to walk the earth until he can find a suitable human to help him ascend. Now was this child just some random child or will this child be linked to him the future.
There are two very interesting shots in the first episode. The first is while the battle, war, massacre is going on, the camera focuses in on the face of the child. The child's face is surrounded by a blanket. Through the child's eye we see the dragon ascending. We don't know how old the child is or even if it is a boy or a girl. Is this dragon just unlucky as the narrator says or is there something else going on?
The other interesting shot is when Yeo Ri is peering out the window to see if Kang Cheol is nearby. Her face is surrounded by the shutters on the window. When she spots him, she quickly closes the shutters further and the camera focuses in on her face again. This leads me to believe that Yeo Ri is the child who saw him ascend. She also says that all of her visions come true, but the only vision that we have seen is her (married), Yun Gap, and a child seated at a table for a meal. Yun Gap is caressing the child's hair. What if another one of her "visions" was Kang Cheol ascending.
There is more going on in those first scenes then what has been told to us. I agree with you, that Kang Cheol and Yeo Ri must work together to defeat the 8ft. creature. Now whether this was thought through by Yun Gap remains to be seen. Is this why he "lied" to her or withheld the truth from her?
Since Yun Gap is the baby who ruined Gang Cheol's ascent to Godhood, there must be some cope-out ... But though…
If he returns to his own body, he will be a dragon, not KYK. KYK was just the physical manifestation of Kang Cheol's spirit after he lost his dragon body.
There is no way the writer will just let Yun Gap die though. He wasn't a villainous character kdrama writers won't…
You can't resurrect the other people because their bodies have been buried and decomposing. But because Kang Cheol is a heavenly being, he is preserving the body. Yun Gap's body is still "fresh" so to speak even though Kang Cheol says it is rotting.
I didnt understand till finishing why this show left some viewers so angry. By personally none of the 3 main bad…
Actually, it is a perfect ending. It is a realistic ending. The powerful get away with whatever they want to and the poor just have to suck it up. Baek Seom transfers into the school because he was being bullied at his other school. Because he's new and weak, he continues to get bullied at his new school. The same with Si Eun, he transfers schools and the next thing you know he is also being bullied. The cycle continues. When will it stop?
'Love' doesn't have to be romantic. Si-eun is in love with Su-ho, that much is obvious. Shippers just take anything…
Did you read his apology to you? The only reason I ask is because I wrote to him and said I am as straight as they come and even I saw the vibes of BL. I don't follow social media, so I didn't know about the comments of the director and cast. This was just something that I picked up while watching the drama.
The second season seemed more so as Choi Hyo Man in the first episode was practically raping Jun Tae on the stairway and commenting on his manhood.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter. If you find someone who loves, protects, cares, and treats you well, hang onto them (friend or lover). Who you love shouldn't matter.
I get where the mom is coming from about niaoniao but her way of doing it is so 🥴 it's so hard not to loathe…
carstel, Please don't get angry or think that I am trying to start a fight. I understand that you watched The Glory before watching this drama. This drama came out in 2022, so technically The Glory pulled a LLtG move, not the other way around. Happy drama watching.
Hi! Agree with paxxie here. This drama touched on many themes - quest for justice/revenge, longing for a family,…
Now that the drama has ended and this post is buried. I will tell what I thought. I do agree with the take a ways that other posters have said. However, if you look at the last scene all of the important men died or is dying. The women celebrate no longer having men in their lives. They are free to do whatever they want with no male interference.
The main female who started with no man, didn't want a man, ended getting a man, but he is dying. Again, men aren't necessary to have a happy life. jmo
Yes but she said she hated him and never loved him at his wake
You're right. There is something that they haven't told us. The queen dowager, the blind shaman, and the king have all hinted at something that went down on Mount Babluk? Remember the opening scene is of a massacre happening in a village. An army in red uniforms comes in and kills all the people. It is that night that Kang Cheol tries to ascend and fails because he is seen by a child (who looks like a little girl).
When Yeo Ri sets up an exorcism for the crown prince on Mt. Babluk(sp?), she says something to the effect that the spirit is coming from that location. The queen dowager used the 8 ft. creature to try and kill off the crown prince. But once she smelled it, realized she wanted no part of it. So the blind shaman called her a chicken and conjured it up again to take the Grand Prince as his revenge. Someone called the Elder is calling the shots with the blind shaman.
Remember that KYK is only the physical manifestation of Kang Cheol's spirit. Once Yun Gap's spirit comes back and reclaims it's body, Kang Cheol will have earned his strips to ascend. Thus he will turn into a dragon again.
So the end four things could happen: Yeo Ri will stay with Yoon Gap as himself. Yeo Ri will stay with Kang Cheol as Yoon Gap. Kang Cheol will go back to heaven and Yeo Ri will remain single and become a famous shaman (after she has talked with Yoon Gap of course). Yeo Ri will ascend with Kang Cheol. In Chinese dramas the fourth one would happen. In Korean dramas they could with either of the first two. jmo
Probably because he wanted to perform shamanic activities behind the King's back, as the King openly disregarded…
You're right. Kang Cheol does need to help Yeo Ri get rid of the 8ft. creature as it is too powerful for her alone, but I don't think Yoon Gap set that up. Someone or something interfered with his ascension. Why because there is more that he needs to do in order to ascend.
The fantasy genre is all about redemption. Kang Cheol has made Yeo Ri's life miserable, he must redeem himself in her eyes, so that she will willing help him ascend. Helping her get back her first love would go a long way to achieving that goal.
For me, this story seems like the mortal trial of two heavenly beings as we don't know why Kang Cheol has been on earth for a 1000 years. Also, why he attached himself to Yeo Ri when he could have had any shaman help him. jmo
I understand where you are coming from. It is a little hard to take, especially after Mu Dan is very supportive…
That's the point. It didn't seem like the father would love another woman also but yet he did. This drama is all about going against traditions and the tropes of historical dramas. However, the writers are still catering to the same old tropes.
For me, it seems like they are playing the traditional higher status, lower status love trope. She will become worthy of being the official wife through her virtuous deeds and the blessings of the emperor. A poster wrote that she wore the official wife wedding dress, so in his eyes she is already the official wife. Also, the other concubine greets her every morning and serves her tea like a main wife. So they are already breaking with tradition. I don't think concubines have that kind of status.
Thank you for the friend request and for the discussion. I am looking forward to season two. Happy drama watching.

It is because of the concubine situation. We are waiting to see if JCY is like his dad. Remember his father was suppose to have the love affair of the ages. It was written in stories, but the truth was that the father loved someone else, not JCY's mother. Will JCY be like his father and begin to love the second concubine?
Both our main characters experienced some very rough love affairs. Mu Dan, one of her own making, and JCY with his father and mother.
This whole drama is about making abstract ideas concrete. The tornadoes show us that he not just angry, but irate.…
Just remember who he was mad at, Yoon Gap's mother. Someone Yeo Ri loves and cares for. Yeo Ri already hates him because she thinks he kills everyone she loves. If he would have hurt YG's mother, it would be over for him to get her to help him ascend.
The palace guards were trying to capture him that is why he allowed his light to shine on them. jmo
This commentary from Yook Sungjae kinda confirmed that Yoongap did lie to Yeorihttps://x.com/meloverselify/status/1917781368265925013?s=19
You have to ask did he really lie to her or just withhold some information. Remember Yeo Ri does not like to be known as a shaman as all it has ever done is cause her misery and heartache. However, she does have a soft spot for spirits, except Kang Cheol's. If Yoon Gap had told her exactly what he wanted, would she have gone to the capital with him? He knows her best. Even though she is an eye-ware maker, she still comfortably takes on spirits without hesitation as she does not like to see them suffer once she hears their story. Yeo Ri wants every spirit to be able to cross over and stop wandering.
When he asked her to go, he understood what she hates most about herself, that she is a shaman and good one at that. What better way to help someone like who they are by letting them help innocent children (crown prince) and the well spirit. Once she has cleared the palace of spirits, the king should recognize her good deed, and this should help her accept herself for what she is, a shaman. jmo
Just finished season 2 and must say that this season is the strongest of the two. It had a clear social message. Loved the chemistry between Si Eun and Su Ho.
Of the two seasons, I felt season 1 was the strongest. This season felt like I was watching the Hollywood movie The Outsiders, especially at the end with the rumble and Si Eun had brass knuckles.
My problem with the story is that the protagonist is suppose to be smart, but he didn't think to check that there may be someone behind Na Baek Jin. What did those students really accomplish as at the end Seong-je just took over where Na Baek Jin left off. The cycle continues.
He was a typical scholar bound by the bonds of Confucian morality and ethics. Stupid idealist. However, he decided…
Yes, but we don't know why they were banned. I am assuming it has something to do with what happened on Mount B? (I don't remember the name.) However, Yun Gap is the king's advisor. The king would know Yun Gap's personality, and the Yun Gap who helped him with his son and looked at the proposal has a very different personality.
The king knows that Yeo Ri is a shaman, but doesn't kill her why? He just bans Yun Gap and her from the capital for the time being. They will be asked back in order to take care of the 8 ft. spirit.jmo
Can someone tell me if the liu family gets the punishment they deserve for robbing he wei fang of everything she…
It depends on what you mean by punishment. Were they made to pay back the dowry that they stole from her, not yet. However, Liu Chang, the son, has started his revenge on them by playing mind games with them.
