Ep 13 seem to allude to a possible love line between MX and WY?
They've already made changes to the drama. WY is not a character in the novel and she is listed one of the main leads here. So I'm guessing WY may develop an unrequited love towards MX.
I really don't want them to have the same ending like the novel 🥲
MX's character in the novel is much more brazen and immature. She basically sticked to WJG all the time and tried to seduce him while he has been keeping her at arms length and treating her like a younger sister. Like in the drama, MX found out that WJG is BFY's fiancé. But this didn't stop her advances. Her persistency did touch WJG and he felt a bit attracted to her but he never took advantage of her, as he has always been very clear that he prefers BFY's demure, cultured and stable personality and only she is suitable to be his wife.
Ultimately, MX became desperate and on one night when WJG came back from drinking with his friends, she sneaked into his bedroom and coaxed him into sleeping with her. He thought that he was having a wet dream until he found out what happened the next morning. After the act, he was conflicted, as he wants to marry BFY but felt guilty towards MX. Then came war and he was needed in the battlefield. CWD conquered the city and captured the sisters. MX ended up staying back with CWD while BFY was returned to WJG. Before BFY's return, MX confessed that she was pregnant with WJG's baby.

Yes, the novel was vague about MX and Xiao Wu's relationship. Though she did refer to him as her 3rd man. I believe they were more than platonic but probably not married. Regardless, CWD died in the novel and I hope in the drama he'll have a happy ending with MX.

That's what happend in the novel. The ending in the drama hopefully will be different. They actually made quite a lot of changes in the drama. E. g. The novel is set in the Republican Era right after the fall of the Qing dynasty. During this time, there were various warlords claiming territory and CWD rose thru the ranks from a mountain bandit to a commander. In the novel he behaves like a bandit. He is uncouth, loots and womenises. He also attempted to rape BFY and forced himself on MX. While he truly loved MX in the end, I can understand why the author decided to give him such an ending, as having MX to have a happily ever after ending with her rapist. Seems wrong. But in the drama, CWD is so different. He is chivalrous, honourable and respects MX's decisions. He so charming in the drama and it will be a huge turn off if he gets the same ending as in the novel.
Xiao Wu was a supporting character in the novel too.
