"Can you imagine a story, satirical or not, about USA just before 9/11 scheming, looking for a way to declare…
And as another American here, our country has a shitload of work left to do to acknowledge our past as well as present wrongdoings, which are too myriad to even list here. It's actually depressing to think about it, so we need to put that sadness and anger into action to keep that shit from happening again, as well as try to make amends for came before (even if we didn't have anything personally to do with it.)
Columbus is not only NOT a hero, he was a murderous, vile person who acted inhuman and enabled other inhuman invaders to come after him. And he wasn't even the worst of them. We won't even get started with Cortes, omg. He was a fucking monster.
Holy shit, I am so sorry you had a do a slave simulation in school. No words, just anger. I get so tired of stupid Americans.....full stop. LOL. I was going to put an end to that sentence but it doesn't even need one. I just get so tired of stupid Americans. But I am one too, and working everyday to be less stupid.

We are witnessing the end of the Korean entertainment industry. And I'm all for it, so then Netizens can go back…
"We're witnessing the end of the Korean entertainment industry." Just curious - with what expertise are you making this claim? Just your own opinion? I mean, Netflix doesn't seem to agree, considering how much money they're paying Korean entertainment companies to produce Korean dramas with Korean actors and staff....

On the on hand the show is absolutely meaningless, on the other hand i'm curious about the way the plot will go
It wasn't at all meaningless - there was a lot there actually

Like I said in another reply, this is a Kdrama. It's up to the writer to decide what they want the drama to be…
So "I" am not cancelling this, but I can think of shows in the US that were produced by the far-right, (and portrayed various populations as evil and deranged) that should never see the light of day, much less broadcast around the world for millions to see. There are limits to free speech, actually, although I am NOT a fan of censorship, before you get worked into a lather. It's not something I take lightly, actually, and it's decided on a case-by-case basis.
However, if you're not South Korean, (and I don't think you are based on your comments so far), so if you're not South Korean, unless you know the history and are familiar enough with the events to be able to speak intelligently about the various complexities of it, you (and I) don't have enough invested in the reality of the situation. Because it's definitely not because you are upset about not getting to see your bias on screen - there are some things that a lot of people find more important.

Clearly a comment from someone who only cares about entertainment and don't give 1 single F* of the people in…
I'm curious where you live and if there are any historical events that you would be very upset if they were portrayed in a certain way, and then broadcast across the world.

"Is the drama publicly funded? If not, they have no right to demand for cancellation. If you believe in freedom…
Did you read the article? It explains this. These are real events and the characters' names are close enough - too close for many - to leaders in the movement, one of whom was severely tortured. Also, a fantasy is a specific genre of storytelling, which involves supernatural elements. Maybe you meant "fiction" instead? Because fiction and fantasy are actually two different things and this is not a fantasy drama.

It's not as "simple as that." It's just not. You might wish that it was, and be upset (rightly or wrongly) that your entertainment is getting disrupted, but for a number of reasons this is deeply upsetting for a lot of people. It's not just a K-drama, these are real events that are still quite recent and are still causing pain for people now.

Why don't people buy their own TV station, instead of bitching all the time? First cancel Ji Soo, then Joseon…
After doing some basic research on this topic, you can't compare Ji Soo getting fired from his acting gig to this - it's not even in the same universe. This isn't even in the same universe as the Joseon Exorcist flap. (Also this issue wouldn't be solved by everyone who's upset simply relocating to North Korea - if you learned more about this particular piece of history, you might not say such insensitive things.)

Honestly, I can relate: this one looks like a really touchy subject. :/Can you imagine a story, satirical or not,…
"Can you imagine a story, satirical or not, about USA just before 9/11 scheming, looking for a way to declare war on middle east ?" Umm, we don't have to look too far for this, and it doesn't need to be satirical. Just sayin'. And I really don't think you can make the leap from hundreds of years of chattel enslavement to this issue being the same, but if you're going to go there, there are plenty of movies from the early 20th century that did just what you said. One doesn't have to look too far in US history books from the 20th century where it was taught that slaves were better off than being free. Whoever has the power can make the narrative fit whatever they want. It's often horrific, frankly, but it can also change.

Many of us have lobbied for years to get rid of Columbus Day in favor of Indigenous People's Day because we're tired of celebrating a genocidal piece of human garbage every year. But lots of people have been really offended and pissed off when this idea got started because Columbus was always their hero and lots of schoolkids have been fed a load of horseshit about how he "discovered" America. One person's hero is another's deep place of woundedness - it's all perspective.

That said, I don't know enough about these particular South Korean historical events to comment one way or another. I'll need to do some more research, obviously.

I know I'm inciting the ire of his fans, but there's something so chilling about how he looks here ... villain…
I hope that you never get a photo taken of you out of nowhere, have it plastered all over the world and then called a villain because of it. I will never condone running away from the scene of an accident, no matter what, but your comment was just stupid, frankly.

It's all about the wording. Just like the Japanese did throughout their history, he would never admit his own…
Joy, if it's all about the wording, then you should maybe learn your own lesson. Your choice of words here is problematic. And while I actually agree with the crux of what you're trying to say (I think) - that there were years and years of colonization and repressive rule and frankly, war crimes that haven't been officially acknowledged - making such a blanket absolute statement is not only not helpful, it's not even statistically possible. There is no possible way that every single person in a country either agrees with or simply kowtows to whatever government propaganda is placed in front of them. There are ALWAYS outliers - for everything. And that includes folks in Japan who are actively working to tell hard truths - I know this because I know some of them personally. So that right there makes an absolute statement not able to be true.

Whelp, right or wrong; Korean bias or not, I'll just add that I was already in a K-drama slump as it is, because…
While I agree with you on the whole, Chinese dramas are subjected to some serious censorship and they basically act like LGBTQ+ folks don't exist in the world. That's troubling on multiple levels and bleeds from the not real life of dramas into the very real life of how folks are treated in the country.

I have yet to find a jdrama to match the way this was done. Love the filter that they used to make things feel…
Some film options: River’s Edge, Drowning Love, Backwater, Until I Meet September's Love, Norwegian Wood. Not Quite Dead Yet, Pink and Gray, Marmalade Boy, Butterfly Sleep, Ano ko no Toriko.
Some of these are quite dark but all well-done, imo. Not sure if this is what you're looking for - let me know.

Similar to this would be Majo no Jouken. (Also Love in Fortune but Majo no Jouken is better.)
For questionable characters and choices but still often extremely well-done and thought-provoking: Double Fantasy, Glass no Ie, Dying Eye, Boku wa Mari no Naka. To a lesser extent Perfect Crime.
I tell everyone to watch Million Yen Women, and Kenja no Ai has one of the most interesting OSTs I've ever heard (plus it's so crazy in parts you just have to see it.)
Love Shuffle is just fun and also quite emotional in parts, which I wasn't expecting.
