I'm not familiar with Second Virgin yet, and I've seen Love and Fortune several times now but still prefer other student-teacher dramas like Majo no Jouken and A story to read when you first fall in love.
My favorite K-drama student-teacher drama is probably Biscuit Teacher and Star Candy, which is also an older drama, like Majo no Jouken. I don't mind watching forbidden love stories every once in a while and I like student-teacher slightly more than step-sibling love stories, but I generally like to watch love between consenting adults. Consent is a huge must for me, (and I don't care if it's just fiction.)
What did you like most about Love and Fortune? I'm interested in your opinion.

Glass no Ie has Saito Takumi as the ML....and he is masterful in it, imo.
Double Fantasy was interesting - not my absolute favorite - but well worth watching at least once. Definitely fits within the mature category talked about in this article (if toxic is one of the requirements.)

We had the same idea (of pointing out the lack of Japanese dramas here - hahaha - your comment got more response than mine, which is fine of course. :-) I'll have to compare ours to see what we have in common....

You're on episode 20? I don't think her worst traits have started showing themselves yet... :-) There are 38 episodes in this drama and she gets much, much worse before the end. :-)

You didn't actually answer any of my questions. I haven't seen either of the K-dramas you listed, (as I would rather watch Japanese doramas these days), so I don't get your reference. Simply saying "Think about that" doesn't mean anything to me.

I just listed Watashitachi wa Douka Shiteiru as my current favorite as well. (I got so hooked that I just ordered all the manga.) I hope they make a sequel!

I'm struggling to understand why someone would like to watch content that is abusive and non-consensual...? Are you saying that you actually 'like' to watch scenes of sexual assault, physical abuse, and domestic violence?
I also like, and often prefer, "mature" dramas - dramas for and about adults (see my comment at the beginning of the thread.) I'm also not a prude in any sense of the word. But I certainly don't enjoy watching characters get abused and assaulted, often to simply move the plot forward. It might be exciting to you, but those particular scenes are hell for many of us.

I love "mature" dramas as well, as they're both guilty fun and serve as cautionary tales (other people can go through the hardships and we can learn from their mistakes just by watching.)
This list is missing Japanese doramas, however! They do makjang better than the Koreans sometimes.

It’s ok to watch once, but I won’t rewatch it. And I don’t agree with the commenters who wanted the FL to end up with someone else, because he wouldn’t have been a catch either. I just didn’t like the writing at all, really. I wouldn’t say it’s a waste of time to watch but there are better dramas out there.

The rating for this film should be much higher.

Or like The Ghost Bride, which is a Malaysian-Taiwanese production (and way more Malaysian than Taiwanese), but MDL lists it as Taiwanese only. That's exclusion. It doesn't matter if it's always been that way if it's not the right thing to do anymore.

I agree 100% with you here, btw.

My personal opinion is that MDL shouldn't discriminate against films that showcase the realities of the LGBTQ+ community throughout Asia.

That should get amended here to reflect the hard work that the Malaysian cast, crew, writers and directors put into the production.

The Oscars aren't the only game in town, and lots of other awarding organizations loved Minari (and Youn Yuh Jung specifically) this year. There is absolutely no question whatsoever that the Oscars have been too white for too long, that is a solid fact. But Minari was also a very well-received film by lots of awards voters that didn't need to have new rules implemented.
