I enjoyed watching the bond that developed between Young Min & his son, but was disappointed by the romantic development. Young Min & Mi Soo spent the entire drama more or less with other people, and when they were together there was very little romance, no kisses (I think there was one lip brush in the entire 132 ep drama), no sweet moments, nothing. They looked good together. They had good chemistry, but no passion, no conviction whatsoever. Aside from the female lead, the women in this drama were god awful. They treated their adult children like property and preferred to put their own happiness before these children they claim to love more than anything else. And as usual the children don't take charge of their own lives, they just comply, comply, comply. I'm done with these kind of dramas, esp when they're so long. I mean it this time. If you watch one, you've pretty much watch them all so no more. No more.
I really don't understand Korean morality. How can people - his own family even!!! - actively encourage Young Min to abandon his child??? What's wrong with these people? And for that spoilt, selfish bitch, Seo Young? Sure, the kid didn't come into his life under the best of circumstances, but Joon is a part of him. How can he just walk away from him so easily??? How can you love someone who hates your flesh and blood? Aigoo I'm so disgusted with this guy right now ... in fact everyone in this damn drama!
I like tortured heroes so when I started watching dramas a year ago I was really fascinated by all these emotionally scarred male leads suffering from abandonment issues. I wanted to forgive all their bad behaviour (Toru Hyuga ... smdh) & give them all a hug. But too much of a good thing kills the magic. Seems like most male leads in dramaland have mommy issues. It's a bit overdone. They need to find something else to emotionally scar these guys and stop blaming everything on mom. The fact is that 99% of mothers do not abandon their children for selfish reasons. That's why moms are so goddamn awesome.
I'd say I'm more puzzled by such plots where not really "mothery" mother happens to raise the best children…
The mother in Brother Beat was definitely unconventional, but still a pretty good mother in her own way. Sure, she was a bit lazy & immature, but inadvertently she taught the boys to be self-sufficient & responsible around the house. I'm sure her future daughters-in-law will thank her for teaching the boys how to cook, wash their own clothes and clean the house. In dramaland most Japanese men don't know how the insides of their own kitchen look (unless they live alone), much less lift a finger to do any form of cleaning. As long as a woman is in the picture all the domestic chores are her responsibility, but in BB this was not always the case & I think that was thx to mom.
This guy is so ridiculous. He never fails to crack me up! hahaha
Saranghæ, oppa!

Ji Jin Hee is hot! Too bad he keeps making dramas I can't watch. I don't know who your other favourites are, but I'll look them up. At the moment my # 1 ahjussi is the man on my profile. He just completely slay me! hehe
But I also totally love the other guys my favourites list.
Where in the Caribbean are you? My mom is Jamaican.

Omo, chinguya! I had COMPLETELY forgotten! But also now that I think about it weren't you a bit sceptical about watching even though I tried to sweet talk you into it? :) Maybe that's why I went ahead and started it without giving my dear chingu a second thought!?! Biann. I'll make it up to you. You can pick the next drama we watch together! Deal?
P.S. I'm going to answer your other messages from before soon. I'm just a bit busy dealing with some work & personal stuff so I haven't had time to respond to any wall posts. Just so you know, dear chinguya...

Hope so. Curious to know what will happen to Ju Yeong and Hyun Suk. If they don't end up together I'll be very annoyed. That psychopathic basketcase Lee Han Seo, gosh I want somebody to set him on fire.

Agreed, but I worded it like that because addicts aren't going any place. Many won't stop using just because there's a law against it so if they want to keep their asses out of prison, don't get caught. That's my way of looking at it at least.

After ep 70 I speed watched up to ep 108. Ep 109 is up but since no more eps are available after that I didn't want to watch it and then die of curiosity while I wait for the rest to come out. How often are eps released, do you know? Since this is a daytime soap I figured they would be posted as they're aired but that doesn't seem to be the case?
Propofol is a dangerous anaesthetic even in the correct hands. This is the drug that contributed to Michael Jackson's death. It is not a street drug. It has to be prescribed and administered by a trained medical professional. It's scary to me when doctors act with such callous disregard for the oath they took to preserve human life. Whoever this bastards are their sentences should have been longer and they should be banned from practicing medicine forever.
I have no comment on the prison vs rehab argument except to say it is what it is. Lots a people don't like that the US has the death penalty. We deal with it. What's likely is that they'll probably get some sort of rehabilitative support in prison.
Another thing I'd like to say is that sentence discrimination is real & women are probably the biggest beneficiaries, esp here in the west. I think this is wrong. Maybe this is very cold-blooded of me, but I don’t see the birth of her child as mitigating the circumstances. If she didn’t want to be separated from the kid she shouldn’t have been caught using propofol. It’s not an ideal situation for the baby, but she’ll live as long as her basic needs are being met. Moreover, in an intensely family orientated country like Korea I’m sure she’s in good hands with her father and his family or her maternal grandparents/some other relative. She’ll be fine. Hopefully her mother will get the help she needs in prison and come back feeling stronger to face life’s challenges in a healthier manner. Let's hope no one commits suicide.
Wow, she's only 23. She looks a lot older (in Ugly Alert at least). Usually Asian actors looks at least 3-5 yrs younger than they actually are.

Chinguya, I saw that you'd written me & it took me a while to read your post because I was sure you were writing to cuss me out! haha
Sooooooooo sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Even though I'm on mdl everyday, I only have time for short comments, but I promise you that I will answer all your messages soon! I've just been dealing with some stuff. BUT you will hear from me. I STILL THINK ABOUT Golden Empire EVERY DAMN DAY and it's been almost a month now since I watched it! I think it's fair to say that damn show (& Tæ-joo's spirit) is haunting me!!!
And OMFGAAAAAAADDDDD ... my baby's in a new drama?! Yes! Yes! Yes! Halleluja! I want to see him again so bad I could just bawl. OMG, am I a crazy a$$ fangirl or what!
Speak soon, my dearest chingu! I've missed my early morning (for me) chats with you too! We'll start up again soon! Yakso! ;)
Re the drama behind Dæmul, this is quite normal actually. Crew changes are inevitable and a regular occurrence on most productions, esp TV. I once worked on a movie where the director was changed 3 times DURING the course of filming and a new scriptwriter was brought in to rewrite huge chunks of the script. Not surprisingly the film totally bombed. TV is a bit easier to navigate when it comes to changes behind the scenes.
