As far as I know, reviews on shows viewers did not watch in its entirety is generally discouraged on this site as you can not give a fair description of the drama after having watched only 3 (or however many) episodes. However, you could have left your thoughts about the episodes you did see as a comment on the drama page.
I believe it is, there's even a scene where the FL sees the back of the ML accidentally when he is taking a bath.Just…
Secret Love Affair, Encounter, I Do, I Do, Witch's Romance were not labelled 'ahjumma' romance ... even though all the female leads are ahjummas ... in terms of being above marriageable age. In many dramas the older male is referred to as 'oppa' ... even 'ahjussi' in some cases, although the drama itself is not labelled an 'oppa' or 'ahjussi' romance. On this website age gap romances are usually labelled as such, regardless if it's the man or woman who is older.
People call older female/younger male dramas 'noona romances' to make them more easily identifiable (because some viewers really love these dramas whilst others don't). You're pretending to be angry about a linguistical issue to hide your prejudice against older man/younger woman unions. ::sideeye:: So what if oppa/ahjussi romances are normalized? They ARE normal (nothing wrong with them as long as both parties are consenting adults) and common. Moreover, just as many noona romances are released as oppa romances ... I would even contend that more noona romances are released than the opposite in recent years.
This is because older woman/younger man unions are more accepted (and probably more common) in Asia than in the West ... so I'm not sure what you're griping on about. Look at how many male stars all across the region, not just in Korea, are married or in relationships with older women, sometimes much older women. In Korea, marriage among older women & younger men have increased by close to 20% compared to 10 yrs ago.
I don't need to sue you for anything because you're entitled to like what you like, but keep your hypocrisy to yourself, please. You're having a fit about an older man having a relationship with a much younger female, but apparently had no issue with the ML in SLA having an illicit affair with an 'old' woman who could be his mother. If you don't like this type of union & don't intend to watch the drama, why are you here??? SMDH
I believe it is, there's even a scene where the FL sees the back of the ML accidentally when he is taking a bath.Just…
The term 'noona' is used to refer to older females, no matter if she's 1 yr older or 10 yrs older so technically speaking if the FL is 2 yrs older than the ML, it IS a noona romance. Moreover, I've heard Koreans refer to females who are just a few months older as noona.
You must have not been in this community very long because on this site Noona romances (including those with huge age gaps) are far more accepted than the opposite. Nobody was all up in arms a few years ago when Secret Love Affair was released. In that drama the FL is just 1 yr shy of being 20 yrs older than the ML! My mother had her first child at 20. So, technically speaking, the FL could be this guy's mother ... but no one was complaining about THAT en masse. On the contrary, it was & still is a very popular show. I noticed from your own list, that you loved it! You gave it a whopping 10 stars ... along with all the other popular noona romances, ie Encounter & I Do, I Do (and yes, I am aware that the age gap in the latter 2 dramas are slightly less than in Touch, but nevertheless reasonably big). I don't suppose you were outraged with the age gap in these shows, were you?
Here in Touch, the ML is 16 yrs older and people are having a meltdown. The FL is in her mid 20s, well above the age of minority. It's fine if May-December romances, esp if the man is older, is a personal pet peeve of yours, but to act like it's morally wrong for a 25 yr old & a 41 yr old, two adults, to get together romantically ... whilst condoning the same for the opposite ... isn't that a bit ... hypocritical?
To be honest with you, *I* don't particularly like noona romances, esp those in which the age difference is visibly noticeable. But you don't find me on those drama pages complaining about these big 'old' women hitting on 'little' boys.
you know the french president has a wider age gap with his wife , than those 2 actors have XD its nor abnormal.
People these days only have a problem with age gaps when the man is significantly older (guess the feminists be wanting their revenge ... what else is new). When it's the woman that's older, it's A:OK, i.e Secret Love Affair, where the FL was almost 20 yrs older than the ML; here ML is 16 yrs older. Where was all the outrage for SLA ... nowhere to be seen!
Oooo.... I started this and, well, it got old real fast. I really do hate to say this but Hawick Lau & Tiffany…
It's probably her because she totally ruined My Sunshine with Wallace Chung for me. This is a guy who can create chemistry with a brick wall, but with her ... nothing. Was very disappointed when I saw that she was cast as the FL in L&L because I really like Hawick. Maybe that's why even after all these years, I still haven't gotten around to watching this drama.
Well AOL gave me rashes but I loved TMOPB so to me they are very different outside of being broadly xianxia romance…
I know censorship of the media is notorious in China, but all these nuances and how they affect the shows we love to watch are all lost on me, given that I'm not Chinese and don't speak Mandarin (although I am learning it). Thanks for providing context. I never would have guessed that censorship would affect a drama in such a way. Wow! I still actually don't get it. So are the communist party big drama fans or do all the censors work for the party? Do they literally go through every single drama that's produced & cut scenes? How does it work exactly?
The only period piece with Wallace Chung that I have watched is Too Late To Say I Love You, set during the Republican era. I would highly recommend this. This is how I was introduced to him and I became an instant fan. It's a romance set in the midst of the Japanese invasion. Some people have complained that it's not realistic that there's a war raging outside and the leads are preoccupied with romance. For me, the romance intensified an already precarious situation & raised the stakes sky high because the threat of death was never far away & the ML always found himself in untenable situations where he had to make very difficult decisions that end up hurting those he cares about the most. I really enjoyed this, but I guess different cultural groups will have different expectations for a drama like this.
The other drama of his that I've seen is My Sunshine, however, this is a modern drama based on a popular novel. This show had so much potential. Wallace's character was excellent, but the female lead, the way she was written AND played by Tiffany Tang, was a terrible disappointment. I hate when people are always quick to characterize a FL as weak because she's gentle, sweet & kind (because there's nothing 'weak' about these traits imo), but in this drama ... I can't think of another word to characterize the FL but weak. She wasn't just gentle, sweet & kind ... she was colourless & boring, a shrinking violent that faded quickly alongside Wallace's charisma & intensity. Ling Xi in L&D was gentle, sweet & kind but she was at least interesting, resourceful & funny too. Not TT's character in this drama! Also the intimate scenes were atrocious - Tiffany Tang always looked like she hated the experience of kissing Wallace ... and all the forced kissing quite literally looked like sexual assault. I just couldn't enjoy the drama for these reasons. So even if you did watch modern dramas, I personally wouldn't recommend this one.
Do you mean for better or worse? I think Go Soo still looks amazing as when he was in his 20s and 30s.
Oh, you were referring to plastic surgery. Well, it's Korea ... everybody who can, gets plastic surgery there, and those who can't sure would if they could. A lot of internalized self-hatred for their natural features.
Joo Sang Wook has this great natural charisma and likability about him , but for some reason in the dramas I’ve…
The problem in Cunning Single Lady, imo, was not him, but Lee Min Jung ... who if you watch her in other shows or movies, is incapable of creating believable chemistry with her co-stars. I think she's one of those actresses - along side Park Shin Hye, Lee Bo Young, Song Hye Kyo, to name a few - who aren't 100% comfortable doing romance, esp if they're required to get intimate with their co-stars. Outside of romantic story lines, they may do fine, but once romance is involved they tend to portray the character as cold and stiff. I had to drop CSL because of the lack of chemistry AND the annoying love triangle. Sadly, it is said that JSW and LMJ have an excellent working relationship so they like starring in shows together. They recently did Fates & Furies ... I think the name of that drama was, and often say they want to collaborate more in the future. I think if he's paired with an actress that doesn't have these hang ups & goes all in with the role, they can have excellent chemistry! I'm curious to see how Touch develops! Either he'll have excellent chemistry with FL or because he's so much older than her the actress might go the 'stiff/cold' route. I guess we'll see soon enough.
Well AOL gave me rashes but I loved TMOPB so to me they are very different outside of being broadly xianxia romance…
I'm definitely going to watch TMOPB at some point, however, since it's so similar to L&D and I just finished that, I need to take a break from that world. I also hear it's a lot more angsty than L&D. So maybe in a half a year I'll watch it. By the way, I enjoyed L&D even though there were a few frustrating & draggy parts. I wish the romance was just a tad bit spicier too. I don't like forced kisses ... I love when both parties are 100% into it. The only decent kiss we got came waaay too late in the drama, almost at the end (I hope you know which scene I'm talking about). These two have so much good chemistry they definitely should have kissed like that earlier! But I'mma just have to be satisfied with what we got! lol
LMAO @ what you said about Angelababy! I totally believe you! To me, both she & her husband come across as very vain. From the General & I clips, I know I'm not going to be very fond of her as an actress. She was not a good match against such a charismatic, hot-blooded guy like Wallace.
Speaking of Wallace, General & I stars Wallace Chung, not Wallace Huo. I've never seen anything with Wallace Huo, but I've seen a lot of clips of his dramas on YouTube. He's very handsome, but girl, he doesn't come even a millimetre close to how passionate Wallace Chung is! The man (WC) is a walking bush fire! I have to take a cold shower every time I watch his dramas. I seriously envy his wife! haha
Ep 23 - first real flirting Ep 25 - meet up again Ep 37 - proposal Ep 38 - cute truth about his scheming to marry…
Oh, I saw that one, but I was just wondering why there were no clips of an actual kiss. Usually if the drama has a kiss scene or bed scene, I'm able to find it on YouTube.
With 73 eps and slow pacing - even if the story is good - I need to have kisses, cute scenes and heck even some luuuurvmaking to motivate me to push through. Hahahaha ;-)
But if you sure you ain't dreamed it, then I guess I'mma keep watching. I'm already on ep 4.
Ep 23 - first real flirting Ep 25 - meet up again Ep 37 - proposal Ep 38 - cute truth about his scheming to marry…
It's interesting that I can't find not one kiss from this drama on YouTube. Strange. Are you sure they actually kissed in the drama? Maybe you dreamed it? :-)

Well, I work in independent film, which is not as glamorous as the wider film industry ... but yeah, it's fun. When you're doing something you love the long hours, the uncertainty of outcomes, the sometimes horrible pay & temperamental, diva-ish behaviour of creative people don't matter at all! Luckily, I do have dual careers so when things are slow on the film front, I work a more traditional job in the business consulting field.
I read the spoilers. I will absolutely be passing on the Rise of Phoenixes. There is no way I can invest 70 hrs, only to be rewarded with such a patently tragic & gutwrenching ending. I can't do it; heart too fragile. Entertainment is an escape for me, I want to laugh & see stuff that make my heart flutter, not bawl my eyes out. I'll watch Ni Ni in Savage (will be nice to see her and CC together again, though it will not be in a romantic capacity! I can't believe she has better chemistry with anyone more than him! :). Actually as I was looking over her filmography I realized that I have seen one of her movies before - Love Will Tear Us Apart! I remember liking that film a lot.
For my next C-drama, I think I'm going to watch TMOPB or The General & I. I've seen all the hate G&I get, and the plot does sound messy, but I want to watch it for Wallace cuz he's so bæ! That man is so fiery & passionate ... I can't get enough of him. I adored him in Too Late To Say I Love You & I loved his character in My Sunshine, but hated the drama itself because the relationship was too imbalanced. I didn't like the female lead at all! The whole vibe of the show felt a little pedophilic because of how she interpreted the character, like a 12 yr old. I know it's based on a book, but what a complete waste that was!

That's good to hear! So I imagine from your answer that the kisses in this drama come with spice and everything nice? Yes? I really hate dead fishing kissing and it's cousin cold fish kissing. I like when the characters kiss like how lovers kiss in real life.
