People who harp on and on about second leads ultimately end up being suckers. That's why I NEVER, ever have any sympathy for them ... no matter how sweet or cute or nicer than the male/female lead they are. Root for the leads. If they - the leads - are mean, root for them to become better people; aything else, hanging your hopes & dreams on 2nds, is just setting one's self up for disappointment! I'm no longer watching this show, but I never liked this kid the minute he walked into frame. Of course I didn't know he'd turn out to be an evil bastard, I just hate 2nds in general. 99% of the time they are not significant to the plot or needed in the story AT ALL. They're simply a product of unimaginative writers who can't or are not allowed to colour outside these ridiculous, cliche - filled drama boxes! :)

Dongsæng, pls let me know what you understood from Searching for the Elephant. I thought it was somewhat of a farce. It's built on a good, intriguing premise (addiction, mental illness and what not), but it tried too hard to be deep & in the process the plot became a hot, convoluted mess. That's what I got out of it. The creators needed to find their own elephant first before attempting to help others find theirs! That's my take. Ha!

Omo, you mean the lead actress of 3-iron??
She was convicted of abusing propofol too? Wow! What's going with these people? Gosh, I KNOW - from experience - showbiz is a tough, high pressure business. It can really mess with your mind if you don't have a strong support system around you. I hope whatever is troubling these poor souls it will be resolved. Propofol is not something to play with ... as we've all seen with Michael Jackson.

I just realized that La Dolce Vita is also known as A Bittersweet Life. I was just discussing that drama with someone the other day & they also thought I might like it. I'll definitely keep it on my radar. Thx geng!

LOL! I know about her drug habit.
But dude her personal life is not my business, yeah?
Moreover, life is hard, man. Everyone is bound to f**k up every once in a while. Let's just hope the girl doesn't end up killing herself. It doesn't seem like Asians handle pressure too well!

You mean the Chinese drama? I liked it. Just your standard drama/romance miniseries. Nothing original, you will have seen the same story many times, but it was okay. Great above average production values for an Asian drama (I enjoyed that) & relatively good acting, imo. It's very short - each ep is like 14-15 mins - so you might as well give it a try & see if you like it.

Omo, you dropped MARS??? Big mistake!

Hope she gets her life in order after this drug scandal!

Now, as for the dramas I DO love, I see you've added LOVERS, one of my all time favs! It'll be interesting to see how that drama affects you. It seems to have divided the viewership in that some people really loved & enjoyed it like I did whilst others have complained that it's draggy & that the romance is too angsty. People also complained about the world of crime in which it is set.

I can't relate to any of the criticism because these are exactly the reasons I loved Lovers. I love crime & romance separately, but together ... it's the best genre combination there is to me. I love bad boy leads who really know how to kick some major ass & that's KJ, the male lead, in a nutshell.

Moreover, Lovers has got to be 1 of the most mature dramas I've ever seen. There's nothing juvenile or 'cute' about the characters & their circumstances. Perhaps because the drama is set against the gritty backdrop of the Korean underworld (male lead is top gangster who falls for a preacher's daughter), but I just love the vibe of the show.

I LOOOOVED the mad sexual chemistry between these the leads. I loved the way their love started off as a flame then morphed into a roaring fire neither of them could control! It was just HOT! HAAAAAWT! If people find that too angsty then they don't know what a good love story is, imo. Give me MORE of this kind of romantic development rather than the juvenile, innocent foolishness that goes on in most dramas! Nothing I hate more than to see grown adults acting like teenagers from a century long gone by! Grrr! haha Anyway, I'll stop my yapping here! lol

Looking forward to your feedback on the show. I really do hope it's a good one for you! :p

Hey! Thx for the add. :)

I totally get where you're coming from. One of my early favs was Lie To Me. Prior to watching it I had seen a tremendous amount of really bad or very melodramatic dramas which either left me feeling depressed or angry. LTM was a breath of fresh air in that it was light & fluffy with some great, non-awkward kissing between the leads (this is very important to me! I hate that awkward eyes-wide-open nonsense they call kissing in dramaland!!!). At that time it was just what I needed & I loved it!

As I spent more time in the drama community, however, I realized how vilified that drama is. Everyone keeps asking me how in the world - with my unusual & picky taste - did I manage to end up giving LTM an 8. Well, it's as exactly as you said, at the time it worked for me! Of course I noticed some imperfections, but it mostly satisfied my requirements for a 'good' drama back then.

My tastes have evolved tremendously since and had I watched LTM today I'm sure I'd've probably rated it a 6, maybe 7, but certainly not an 8. I've decided to keep the score as is because it's reflective of the effect it had on me which is fair, I think.

I'm so happy that in my early drama watching days I managed to avoid BOF! That drama is the epitome of dramas I really hate! School, flower boys, love triangles(quadruples), awkward intimacy & the list goes on. I'm glad I was spared wasting time on that. I suffered enough thru Save the Last Dance for Me & 18 vs 29.

Oh I'm soooo glad you enjoyed it! Really it takes a special type of audience to enjoy & appreciate this show. It's not a show for the demographic on this site and that's perhaps the best thing about it! It lacked that innocent, childish quality most dramas tend to have and dealt with adult issues that anyone who's lived a little life can experience.

I often complain about the lack of authentic physical intimacy in dramas. The awkward hugs & close mouth kisses. I hate 'em, I really do, but here was a drama where the characters barely held hands for the vast majority of episodes and yet you STILL felt the passionate! Could practically cut it with a knife! It was amazing! When they finally kissed/made love it was just icing on the cake! :)

As for Sæ Yeon ... I can't remember my exact reaction to him, but I don't think I had a problem with him. I found him far more realistically portrayed than most other 2nd leads. In general he was very adult in his pursuit of Mi Joo & their interaction did not feel contrived, but natural & mature. I also like Sæ Yeon for how he handled the situation with his mother. My memory is a bit fuzzy but yes overall I thought he was okay.

TBH, I can not remember disliking anyone in this drama. Every character had flaws which only made them more human t to me. I really felt bad for Yu Jin & I liked the fact that KJ also felt bad for no longer loving her because she was indeed someone deserving to be loved & cherished. A great, great drama! I'm so glad another Lovers fan is born! Yes! :)

I've heard that Phoenix is a bit makjang. That scares me a bit because I hate makjang & melodrama, but I still plan to watch it in the near future. No way I can pass up on Lee Seo Jin AND Eric Munn in the SAME drama! lol :)

I've heard good things about A Tree With Deep Roots as well, but for some reason I've been putting off watching it. Something about the story made me suspicious of all the praise. I agree Cruel City is NOT amazing. It was one of those hyped up dramas from last year & when I watched it I was like ... that's it? Even though I did like certain characters & the film noir feel of the show, storywise it was a huge let down. I've never seen more incompetent gangsters & police in my life!

I can't really rec you anything either as I've not been watching much myself. From this season I've only seen You Who Come From the Stars. It's your standard romance k-drama. I thought the alien thing would add an interesting dimension to the show but it was very underplayed. Likeable leads though ...

Hi, stumbled across your conversation with forever_shawol about the type of male leads you like. Seems like we look for the same qualities in our drama men! :)

May I suggest you try the drama LOVERS? I see you watched & liked City Hall. It is also a fav of mine & Lovers is written by the same screenwriter.

I think Kang Jæ in Lovers fits your bill exactly. He's not a perfect guy by any means but I loved his character! :) Read my review to get a better feel of the show. There are no spoilers as far as I can remember.

You might also like Nine: Nine Times Time Travel. It also features a very likeable, confident male lead, but this isn't pure romance. It's time travel with a very strong romantic element.

Haha ... you like?
I try to avoid the kiddos because I can't be bothered to speak at their level. I also watch a lot of inappropriate stuff which I like to discuss with my adult friends without having to take them into consideration. So it's my small (useless, really) attempt to shield them. It takes a village ya know? :)
