Okay so I just saw the casting news.......... and I'll be honest, I sighed a little.
Don’t get me wrong, I totally get that rookies deserve big opportunities and I'm all for fresh faces! But after all the hype for this season, I was highkey hoping for someone with a bit more...... Idk...... experience?!!!! 😩 Or at least a familiar presence to match Kim Goeun's chemistry magic as Yumi.
Totally no hate to the actor though, I haven’t seen his dramas yet(or maybe noticed him Idk) ..... So maybe he'll surprise us all! 🙏
Hong Ye loses his father, sister, and the Masked Daoists....... his only Family. Then just when Huaizhu's love pulls him back from the edge, she’s gone too.
But what guts me is how quietly he breaks. The silence in his tears, no rage..... just the way he shutters his heart away. The man who once fought for love will now raise his son Fugui like a soldier, banning emotions as if feelings themselves murdered everyone he loved.
You can see it in his eyes..... that hollow stare when he looks out to everyone towards the end and how he looks at Fugui like fugui is both his last duty and a mirror of his failures. (For those for read the webcomic like me know how : He's not "strict", he's just terrified.......Terrified that if Fugui loves like he did, it'll destroy him too.
What sucks but I completely understand on his part is that, Hong Ye's not protecting his son…... He's burying himself alive in his own grief.
In Sword and beloved........it's insane that he is even still breathing! 😭 Someone tell him it's okay to hurt instead of turning his pain into Fugui’s prison.
I really appreciated this review. You brought to light one of the many ongoing issues plaguing story telling and…
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so glad the review resonated with you—it’s always refreshing to connect with someone who sees the bigger picture when it comes to storytelling and gender roles. The princess in Everlasting Longing is definitely a departure from the usual ‘damsel in distress’ trope, and while she’s flawed, she’s also complex and human in a way that’s rare for female characters. I hope you enjoy the drama and her character as much as I did (despite her messiness 😅).
I would have no issue with her behaviour if the SML's feeling for her was reciprocated. I think that's the difference.…
Totally get what you’re saying.......... consent and mutual feelings are key, and the princess definitely crossed the line by treating the SML like property. I’m not validating her behavior, but I do want to point out the double standard. We’ve seen MLs act just as possessive (or worse) in other dramas, even when the FL’s feelings aren’t clear or reciprocated at first. Yet, we give those MLs grace because we assume the FL will eventually fall for them. Why don’t we extend the same understanding to female characters?
The princess was flawed, no doubt, but she also had moments of vulnerability that made her human. I just wish she’d been given the same complexity and potential for growth that we often see in male leads
I'm so looking forward to her character arc.
It made me like her even more 😂
