We have to look for a man with a chin beard and a deep voice. LOL

He does not give off vibes as the evil, villaneous mastermind of the 10 years' old case, but his demeanor is changing with every scene. I am betting that he betrayed the Sigu sect. Right now, he looks like an insignificant villain/minion. The man with the black hood on his head and moustache seems to be calling the shots.

If you were to compare Emperor Han and Mo Bei's scenes, you might see similarities in their acting styles, dispositions and grandiose ambitions. They both went from one extreme to the next. They could be father and son.

The most moving performance in the drama was when Han Ye's tears fell on the letter he was writing to his father. The silence around him, the grief of losing his sister, the candlelight. the tears on his face were beautifully shot. Gong Jun, well done!

When I watched the trailer the day before, I thought that they must be an official couple. Little did I know, they were just meeting for a drink, or something. LOL

Emperor Han's scenes are scattered and brief, that it is hard to grasp his motivation and his relevance to the plot. He reads his scriptlines, does his mood swings, coughs sometimes, interacts with Eunuch, Han Ye, or other characters and there is no follow up to the conversations.

I think it was the charm of Han Ye (Gong Jun).

These subplots and characters would have greatly enhanced the production drama. Thanks for the details.

I am glad that many MDL members gave us the book's perspective, to understand the scope of the creative work. The differences between book and drama fall into the "lost in translation", "variations on a theme", "black hole" syndromes. Thanks @writerpersona.

Chinese theatrical movies were given nationwide releases in USA cinemas in the 1990s and early 2000s, then tapered off. There wasn't a slew of movies, but American (non--Asian) audiences were paying at the box office for Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Chow Yun Fat, Donnie Yen Chinese movies. Sony was the distributor. Then, the new Chinese movies started showing only a few So Cal Chinese communities, like Monterey Park. I believe the movie distributor is Well Go.

I prefer to read the subs, than listen to dubbing.
