I am wondering if Emperor is trying to protect his dead father's legacy. Previously, one of the characters said that the old emperor thought the Prince LI was planning a rebellion, by bringing his Iron Army into the capital. If he didn't trust his son, he might have told Cui to seize the Prince. Did Cui take it one step further, and order Lu Chong Shan to wipe out the entire family and servants? Emperor has regarded his children as expendable. We haven't seen his crown prince either.

I was confused why he was lying in bed. He was not previously injured. He might be pretending to be ill, waiting for Pei Yi to rush to him, to beg for his forgiveness.

Once Xiao Huai Jin initiated the royal marriage contract successfully, his ego must have inflated. He thought he could capture Lu Chong Shan, and proceeded to intervene on Wrong Chancellor Cui's behalf. He is so intelligent that he should have put himself in Pei Yi's shoes, and imagine what it would have been like, if Cui had massacred his entire family and household.

LOL The eunuch tag is on point. When you look back on his contributions throughout the plot, he does come across as a eunuch.

Episode 29 was a let down. Xiao Pei Yi dropped a few notches for his chivalrous acts. He went off on a mission to apprehend Lu Chong Shan in the forest while Lu was actually in the capital keeping vigil over Right Chancellor Cui. He and Gu must have fast horses to arrive conveniently at the Duan Mansion in time to save Cui's life. He interrupts Pei Yi's revenge plot, and expects gratitude? Now, he's the broken hearted jilted princess, sick in bed. So much for the trust level!

Emperor is spineless and gutless as ever. He essentially pardoned Cui for the massacre of his brother and his clan, and sent him to his hometown to write scriptures, because he was afraid of disrupting the court. I imagine Cui will be back on the job soon, and with five episodes to go, he might stage a rebellion to overthrow Emperor. What will the Emperor say then? I hope Emperor is kicked off the throne. Does he have a successor? Li Pei Yi would make a great emperor/empress.

Conclusion: Did they change the writer here?

I forgot about Prince Deng Kai. His screen time was five minutes.😆

It is interesting that there are only two good looking young men in the capital; Xiao Huai Jin and Gu Ling Zhou. LOL
