From the start, Mrs Wang cursed and damned her daughter, telling everyone that she wished Xiuyu would fail the university entrance exam, so she would not have to pay the tuition. She backstabbed her child. Before Xiuyu took the exam, the mother should have informed her that she would never finance her higher education.

Well said. I started watching this drama as filler, but became involved in the story, to the extent, that I am writing my opinion every day that I watch an episode.

I abhor the injustices that the Wang family have endured, all caused by the Wan family. Even if Chuanjia admitted he was the mastermind of the identity theft, Chuanmei is complicit. She was desperate when she arrived home, because she was scared of being ruined professionally, and that she would go to jail. Is she an exeuctive in a company? WTF! She does not feel guilt to her childhood friend. She did not even apologize to Xiuyu. If they flashbacked to their school years, it might be revealed that Chuanmei looked down on the poor friend Xiuyu, and when her brother made the suggestion, she was happy to cheat on her friend.

I agree with you. The legal system should restore Xiuyu's identity. It is not only about her loss of a university education, her identity is stolen for the rest of her life. Because she is a female, her parents and her brothers, and the Wan father and son look down on her. They don't care if she lives in a little room until she dies. Xingfu should ask herself, what would she do if it had happened to her. Xingfu is starting to waffle like her mother-in-law.

From ep 1 to ep 35, we see this when watching Chuanjia, Mr Wan, Mrs Wang, Mr Wang, and the two Shuwei Village Elders. Ethics, Honesty, Integrity, Conscience, Justice are ranked lower than Money (Wealth), Pride.

It seems as if Xingfu was telling Xiuyu to consider Chuanmei's health and welfare. She is implying that Xiuyu should not legally fight Chuanmei to reclaim her identity, because Chuanmei will cause harm to herself. No one is thinking that Xiuyu is in a depressive state, and might harm herself.

The Wang parents, Qinglai, Yingzhi, Xingfu, Xiuyu have not considered Xiuyu's future. Xiuyu will forfeit the village pension and social security benefits, because Chuanmei will collect them. Provided the parents give Xiuyu the 300,000 yuan ($44,000 USD), is it suffient funds to sustain her life, if she lives to 90?

The Wang family members and Xingfu also treat Xiuyu like an adolescent. Xiuyu is closer to 30 years old, and an adult female. I think Xingfu called her a kid. Until they respect her as a grown woman who has been shamed and emotional abused by the Wan family, with no future career or marriage prospect, they will never understand her trauma and dilemma.

Is the local, regional, national government subsidizing the university education for the villagers? If so, they have already paid Wang Xiuyu's tuition fees. Since the ID number is the same, they would reject any claims submitted for university tuition, saying they already paid it (for fake Chuanmei).

It has not been revealed if Xiuyu has the 300,000 yuan compensation, or if it is in her parents' possession for Yingzhi's wedding dowry. That was the main reason why the parents forced her to sign the agreement. Yingzhi is as spineless as his parents and brother. Xingfu has also lectured Xiuyu about compromise, to save Chuanmei's life. Is Xingfu indirectly telling Xiuyu to accept the loss of her identity and education? What would happen with Xiuyu's village pension plan? When she files for her pension or social security, the claim will be denied. Chuanmei will receive all the benefits. Xiuyu's life, from age 19 (...estimated age to enter university) to end of life has been stolen by Chuanmei.

The QL-XF and the QZ-YN relationships lacked open communication. Mostly on QL and QZ's side, but their teachers were their parents, who were busy katowing to Mr Wan, and they are also male. To some extent, the male may have a dismissive attitude, or take things for granted. I don’t know how Little Dou will grow up, since his grandmother is taking care of him all the time, while Xingfu is busy with her business. Mrs Wang should be in her late 50s, and might have longevity.

They like to do that in K-dramas. This is the first time, I saw it in a C-drama. I haven't watched a ton of C-dramas. Sometimes, it looks hypocritical, to make the other person feel sorry for them.

Thanks for finding this article. It is exactly what has happened to Xiuyu. Screenwriter might have created Xiuyu's back story with Ms Chen's case in mind. Hopefully, the rich and powerful Wans fall from their pedastals.

In America, there was a huge case a few years ago, about high-profile celebrity parents bribing the universities to admit their children, and award them a diploma. The celebrities were given jail sentences. I am not how many of them served prison time, or if the university personnel were penalized.

When they met, Qjnglai thought that Xingfu and he were in the same boat... uneducated, simple, and sacrificing oneself for the younger sibling to get a city education and a lucrative future. He didn't think that Xingfu would possess more brain sense than he. You don't know about the family you are marrying into, until you live with them. Mrs Xu was distrustful of Qingzhi's abilities and motives from the start. Now she has come around, and approves of him. She doesn't know the character of Sister Wang or Brother Wang. 🤔🤔🤔

Is there only one episode today? I wanted to watch episode 34. Xingfu found out Chuanjia's sinister plot and Xingyun's involvement with the agreement. Old Wan always seems to leave the room conveniently. Chuanjia's misdeeds are piling up. He can't escape Karma and Retribution.

You may find this type of sycophantic behavior in the American workplace, but those sycophants may resort to backstabbing, to climb the ladder. The worse type are the ones who stab you in the chest and in the back. It's a whole different story when the family matriach and patriach sell the child off for 30 pieces of silver. That 300,000 yuan is not going into Xiuyu's bank account.

At the risk of repeating myself, Mr and Mrs Wang are spineless, gutless, backward, ignorant, stupid village sycophants. They taught their eldest child, Qinglai, well. They win the Most Stupid, Ignorant, Sycophantic Bad Parents Award. I thank God that I was not born in China, nor born in a rural village in China.
