you do know anyone can edit wiki right? It's also not set during the June Struggle, it's like 3 weeks away from…
you think the june struggle just happened in one month and that was it? thats just not how political or movements or activism work. i dont know if you never been in a history class but every movement and revolution happen over time as a result of events spanning 20-30 years prior. they also last well after the actual movement happened. for example: the civil war started in 1861 and ended 1965. but states have already been at each other's throats well before.

it was a result of decades of tension over slavery, states rights, and westward expansion. even after its end, the problems didnt magically get solved. look at reconstruction, how african americans were still tied down to white plantations despite the civil war and the emancipation proclamation freeing them, segregation, etc. even now the northern and southern states are divided according to their beliefs and the political parties that support them. even now african americans are discriminated against for their skin color. these issues revolutions and movements fight for dont just magically disappear after the event.

likewise, the issues of democracy vs authoritarian regime is present in south korea. the authoritarian government during the time period snowdrop is set still exists and are projected to win the upcoming presidential election. they just rebranded themselves as patriotic country loving people who did what they had to do and is currently supported by men who are against women's rights and lgptq movements. i hope you think about the real world issues

Oh FFS, Get real. Maybe you need to educate yourself on your entire existence. Ask yourself why you're here...…
the "some people" you speak of are those who were involved in the story this drama is portraying. they have the right to express their feelings. this is something called freedom of speech. you're so stuck up about the law and legality yet want people to stop exercising their rights. even if the blue house addresses it, they are not going to censor or cancel it. thats not how a democracy works so you can relax. society is going to be fine.

the people filing the petition doesn't want the government to step in like some authoritarian regime and cancel it either. they are asking the production team and JTBC to not distort the truth and think twice about how to correctly portray the founding of their young democracy. they were more than peaceful and actually trusted the production team when they said they will correctly portrayed it last time only to get blindsided.

by your logic, if people cant express discontent by lawfully filing petitions or commenting, then everyone in this comment sections should go sue each other. that just isnt realistic.

It's FICTION, FFS. OMG... I don't get these Asians and their need to quickly censor, cry foul and their need to…
wow. I-
"these Asians" you speak of are raising genuine concerns about their history. right wing supporters in Korea are praising this drama for presenting the "truth" of the Gwangju uprising by downplaying their torture and killings of innocent people. I mean, what do i except from a racist person? and yes, you are racist. generalizing en entire continent of people, (asia is more than china, japan, and korea in case your ignorant a*s didnt know) looking down on them for expressing valid concerns from your high horse. i mean the fact you are on a site dedicated to asian dramas yet are racist towards asians baffles me. you do know the dramas you watch are made by asians and star asian stars right?

also some of u are getting real bold w ur borderline racist comments
right? it baffles me that these people willingly consume korean content on a daily basis, are fans of korean actors and idols yet are so discriminatory against actual koreans? being dismissive of the issues in korea and painting koreans as a bunch of judgemental pricks out to get their faves. like you dont have to get a degree on east asian/south korean studies. just be aware and stay in your own lane?

At some point it seems like they are ashamed of their own story. We all have squeletons in our closets, let bygones…
?? But Koreans aren’t being ashamed about it? That isn’t the issue. People are angry because this drama is attempting to downplay the atrocities the right wing did to people during the democratic movement, Koreans are actually proud of the student protesters who stood up against a corrupt dictatorship.

And no, this isn’t something that happened 100 years again. There are people still alive who were victims of the dictatorship. The president during this era died just last week still claiming what he did was right because there were NK spies among students (which this drama is supporting). The right wing newspapers and websites who think the NSA torturing people was right are praising this drama for correctly portraying history.

That is concerning especially with the presidential election coming soon and the Conservative party leading in the polls, in case you don’t know they have gained many supporters from South Korean men who feel threatened by women’s equality movements, this is the party that is praising snowdrop and whether it was the intention of the director, or not, they are playing into propaganda. So no, this isn’t “just fiction.” It can very well affect the views of young South Koreans who haven’t lived through the events and foreigners who are unfamiliar with this part of SK's history.

The most concerning is non-Koreans telling Koreans who had their parents and grandparents killed and tortured during this era to "let bygones be bygones." let me put it in a more western perspective. its like telling a black person to just "let bygones be bygones" when they express concern about a movie portraying the south as good people who had to be bad for noble purposes: ie. they were just fighting for states rights and not their racist institution of slavery. you have no right. at least get educated about the history and the issues behind it before butting in. you dont even get the point of what people are angry about.

I haven't watched this and am not planning to but it's ridiculous that in the 21'st century we are still seeing…
The fact this drama is being aired is proof that it isn’t being censored? The people are actually exercising their freedom of speech by filing a petition against something they believe is distorting a huge important part of their history. Even if the Blue House addresses the issue, they cannot ban it or censor it because Korea is a democracy. There is no censoring going on so sit down.

You do know that there are right wingers in Korea? Like the director could be a part of korea’s Conservative party and is using this to twist the facts, especially with the upcoming presidential election? Koreans could careless about Jisoo. Y’all are acting like thousands of Koreans just woke up one day and decided to hate on her collectively.
On When the Day Breaks Dec 22, 2021
Yikes. The author of the novel they’re basing this story on (and is giving profit to) is someone who actively supports the CCP’s actions in Hong Kong. The fact this is the second project from JTBC supporting corrupt politics this year alone is…alarming to say the least

^^^^ They’re not the same thing? Maybe it wasn’t your intention but your comment genuinely comes off as “Koreans are so sensitive, they will cancel anything historical these days.” Kind of like you’re trying to invalidate valid concerns people have over their history being distorted. I’m not trying to start a fight but I hope you understand that is not the case at all as @ponnu pointed out.

To even compare this to snowdrop is laughable. Not only does it distort history by painting a regime that tortured and killed people as literature loving nerds who just got on the wrong path, the acting and the storyline is mediocre. I’m always hesitant to bash on actor idols but if snowdrop wasn’t already in hot waters for supporting right wing propaganda, Jisoo’s acting would be heavily criticized. Junho has much more experience and honestly a lot more natural talent.

Sounds like 'You Drive Me Crazy'... :D
i loved that drama. especially the actress playing the female lead. if they really are going to be similar, han so hee would have to step her game up. it seems like she has never been in a real romantic comedy role so far.

she's completely one-note in My Name. That's not acting. I'm sorry but wooden/expressionless =/= badass. Also,…
while i do think her acting can be improved, there is no need for skinny shaming, dont you think? Having conventionally attractive people play the woman out for revenge against a big bad group is nothing new. its not her fault that netflix and hollywood in general are obsessed with action movies because they do well with international audiences. when has action scenes in movies ever been that realistic anyway? even if you dislike that, there is no need to call her "another kale salad and soy mil 0 size actress." if she just let herself go, do you think she would even be as successful as she is now? the entertainment industry is largely dependent on looks and its not her fault for trying to fit that, especially with the very narrow standard of beauty imposed on women. or that could just be her normal weight, she cannot change that.

with that being said, i do dislike the oversaturation of action movies/dramas on netflix. squid game is just another alice in borderland/money heist while my name is literally ava/peppermint/vincenco/the old guard/sentinelle. i do like this director's works so here's to hoping netflix doesnt have anything to do with it. I liked han so hee a lot in world of the married/100 days my prince (non-netflix shows) while abbyss, nevertheless, and my name has been very disappointing.

For me it’s because I’ve only seen her in dramas where I hate the character she plays 😂 Maybe that’s…
I think thats probably why. Since most people, unless they're fans, do not bother watching interviews or following celebs on social media, their characters are often the only exposure they have to the actor/actress. My Name is not my cup of tea, especially since Netflic has been recycling the "woman who lost everything turns into a fighting machine and is out for revenge" plot for years now.
I suggest you watch her in 100 Days My Prince. She also plays a "bad" girl but i personally thought she was one of the more interesting characters in that drama.

This is the comment sections of a public forum and people have the right to express their thoughts as long as its not malicious. What I dont understand is how disliking her is sexism or jealousy? Ahn Hyo-Seop and Song Kang are male actors I also do not like and find their skills to be lacking. So no Susan, its not sexism or double standards. Is she a very pretty and successful person? Yes. But I also have my own life that i'm comfortble with and and interests I am pursuing. So no its not jeealousy.

I simply do not like her acting or find the projects shes been in particualry riveting. The fact that she has been everywhere on my netflix feed doesnt really help the fact. That doesnt mean i wish her a miserable death or for her career to end up in ruins. Good for her for gaining international recognition and getting that paycheck.

Why did I click on this article then? Although Vincenco was a very overhyped drama imo, I did really like a few of the director's past projects and wanted to check out the plot of her upcoming work. Thats all. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

i'll tell you why."In the last 10 years I have watched as women in this industry are criticized and measured up…
i dont necessarily hate her or anything. I do think the characters she has been picking to play incluenced people's perception of her. Its unfair but I feel the same towards her Nevertheless costar Song Kang. Op might just not like her for other reasons.

Sometimes there are just times when we dislike or do not get along with people wether its someone we know IRL or a celebrity. We cannot really put a finger on it. Its not really a gender thing. How about people stop bringing up misogyny in eveything? As long as they're not sending her death threats or actively spreading hate, whats wrong with disliking her anyway? You cant even say you dislike someone without it becoming sexism or jealousy these days.

I definitely agree. I would choose quality over quantity any day. He's got a nice face, but he has the same facial…
lmao. same. Ahn Hyo-Seop is one actor I can definitely say is more overrated than Song Kang. at least the dramas Song Kang picks are somewhat interesting. I thought Love Alarm and Nevertheless were both trainwrecks but ones that I could not look away from. They reminded me a lot of daily makjangs. Sweet Home was an enjoyable thriller.

Ahn Hyo-Seops dramas, on the other hand, becomes boring very fast (Lovers of the Red Sky, Abyss, Queen of the Ring.) That coupled with his monotone acting isn't doing him any favors. I guess if you cant be good, at least be interesting.

This actor went from "I want to see more" (Sweet Home) to "please take a long vacation with some extensive soul…
The majority of Song Kang's filmography is a combination of bad acting + bad writing/plot. Love alarm and nevertheless are prime examples of bad writing coupled with mediocre acting.

Sure, the success of a drama cannot be predetermined but picking something that fits his skill level in the first place would have helped even if the writing or the plot was a trainwreck. The writing cannot be blamed entirely though. If he was a good actor, it wouldn't have mattered; see Woo Do-Hwan in literally everything (drama world, tempted, the king: eternal monarch).

I think he should've stuck to web/school dramas since his appearance would've guaranteed him success regardless (ie. Cha Eun-woo). After refining his skills, he could then move on to bigger projects. I mean, Love Alarm was a whole melo disguised as a lighthearted high school romance and none of the main cast was fit for such a heavy plot.

Of course I wasn’t implying a cultural reset or progress ona large scale but just having a single drama that seriously discusses the issue of lookism would be enough for young audiences, especially teen girls who are the main demographic of dramas like True Beauty.

The whole scene during her birthday just threw me off and it is definitely not an equal relationship. The ML is just like every other toxic drama leads except that he covers it up well using sex and charm. Like that’s the whole point of the drama.
Lol this is really my last post, I swear.

I apologize for wasting your time. I don’t care much about this drama to argue about it this much but my point is the ML definitely does not treat her with respect. He stalks her all over the place, calculates his every move so he can get the best out of every situation. He’s a manipulative jerk IMO. I definitely do not like him so you’re correct in that aspect. Nabi does agree to the relationship but is she happy is the question. Is having sexual pleasure enough? Isn’t the title of the show literally I know but... meaning that she knows what she’s doing is wrong but cannot stop it. Just because she goes with it, does not make their relationship equal. I mean the whole show is about them trying to one up each other, push them away before they pushes away and is full of toxic power dynamics. I guess you saw it differently and this is the last I’ll say about this show.
