no because it was more chill in the novel than drama
It’s just that lately, I felt there had been some improvement on these issues — like BL series started treating rape and sexual assault with more seriousness. But with this scene, it felt a bit like a step backwards.

When did I say I didn’t like the show? I’m still allowed to find one scene disturbing and to talk about it on a discussion forum dedicated to that very show. Besides, the fact that some straight women fantasize about writing stories involving rape between men doesn’t mean we should just turn a blind eye. Liking a show doesn’t mean saying yes to everything — it’s okay to keep a critical mind.
Well I mean.. if my mom was dead and my dad died, leaving me to deal with his loans and constantly getting beat…
Just because you were mistreated doesn't mean you have the right to mistreat people who had nothing to do with it. Okay, it gives you mitigating circumstances, but nothing more.

There is a well-known and disturbing case that shocked many people. It involved a Chinese danmei author (the Chinese term for what is known as BL) who was sentenced to over 10 years in prison for writing and selling a homoerotic novel deemed "obscene." The incident happened around 2018, and it caused widespread outrage, especially due to the harshness of the sentence.
What made it even more shocking was that around the same time, a man convicted of child sexual abuse received a shorter sentence, which highlighted the disturbing imbalance in the Chinese legal system when it comes to "moral crimes."

Thank you so much for this very thorough and realistic comment. A funny (and a bit frustrating) thing is that when you talk about this topic with people from mainland China, many are so nationalistic that they’ll say things like “homosexuality and BL are totally accepted in China.” I honestly don’t understand the point of spreading such propaganda. I get not wanting to criticize the government openly, but outright denial of reality is something else entirely!
Let’s hope GMM manages to deliver a real historical BL and doesn’t turn it into another bland romance. Just look at how they completely botched My Golden Blood!
what's peraya? I don't really know much about kristsingto's history so had to ask.
A lot of people forget, but it was Sotus, Krist and Singto’s first series, that popularized BL series in their current format. It really changed everything at the time.
