It involved a Chinese danmei author (the Chinese term for what is known as BL) who was sentenced to over 10 years in prison for writing and selling a homoerotic novel deemed "obscene." The incident happened around 2018, and it caused widespread outrage, especially due to the harshness of the sentence.

What made it even more shocking was that around the same time, a man convicted of child sexual abuse received a shorter sentence, which highlighted the disturbing imbalance in the Chinese legal system when it comes to "moral crimes."

A funny (and a bit frustrating) thing is that when you talk about this topic with people from mainland China, many are so nationalistic that they’ll say things like “homosexuality and BL are totally accepted in China.”
I honestly don’t understand the point of spreading such propaganda. I get not wanting to criticize the government openly, but outright denial of reality is something else entirely!

Let’s hope GMM manages to deliver a real historical BL and doesn’t turn it into another bland romance. Just look at how they completely botched My Golden Blood!

Indeed, I really don’t understand why GMM insists on giving lead roles to, in my opinion, very average actors like Pond, Phuwin, Joong, Dunk, Great, Inn, ... while other excellent actors like Neo, Louis, Mark, ... are stuck in supporting roles.
