Finally watched the show after 2 years and it was so amazing. The humor is so silly but lands everytime and the characters are so lovable! OST is just.. *chef’s kiss*, visuals are amazing, and GemFourth’s acting + chemistry was crazy good, esp for rookies. Last episode kinda lost me but overall a really great add to GMMTV’s catalog.
I’ve been here since the start but never watched it despite seeing the updates. I’m so glad I found it again. The quiet intimacy, stolen looks, layered sentences. This show is so subtle in the most beautiful way. It’s very raw and genuine and hits me in a way where I feel just like the characters. Amazing acting and chemistry from the actors, the hype lived up. Probably my top K-bl rn.
I feel like episode 7 felt off for many reasons. Besides the fact that it’s very densely packed and fast-paced, the plot diverges from expectations. At least for someone like me with no prior knowledge of the source material.
For one, the time skip seemed really random? From the trailer, it looked like time would change right after her death. 10 years is a really long time. We don’t get enough time to attach ourselves to this future of Four and Wa, so the emotional aspect doesn’t hit as hard. The prosecutor aspect was cool and it’s sweet seeing how lovely their relationship is even after so long, but my mind is still stuck on their high school selves.
If they added no time skip then it’d add more impact to the story. With Vivi just dying, we feel her death heavier since we’d have to witness more of the aftermath. But also, everything being so fresh makes the decision more impactful. Vivi just passed and so there’s this sense of urgency to save her. We’ve been building up to this moment and so we’re left anticipating what could happen.
Since Wa and Four haven’t developed their relationship as much, we’re left with the what-ifs of the future and mourning the wasted potential of what they could be. Despite, I feel like the decision makes more sense without the time skip. I know grief is something that’s left on a person, but sacrificing her and Four’s relationship seems easier when they haven’t lived a decade with each other.
Maybe they could’ve had a funeral scene. Then, the first time they return to her grave, they see her dad. The whole time reversal ensues again, then afterwards we have the altered first meeting and do the whole mystery afterwards. Either way, this show is really strong. The episodes have been great leading up to these ones and Four + Wa is one of my favorite couples. I’m excited to see how they end the series next week, as densely packed as it’ll probably be, I’ll really miss this cast.
Initially watching the trailer, I was really excited to see the aftermath of altering their ‘first’ interaction. From what they showed, I thought it’d play a bigger role. I’m excited for the next episode, but I wish we got more time to develop into this concept since it’s very unique and intriguing.
Four being into Wa from the get-go adds more depth into the ‘looking back at Wa’ part. Maybe it’s fate, or maybe it’s her attraction to her. Also what happened to the Four Serpants? The others seemed so cool.
I think Netflix didn’t help them with the budget? Originally the show was set to be aired on YouTube channel…
Ooh thanks for clarifying! I wasn’t 100% sure since the graphics are so amazing. They really put lots of effort into this project, makes me appreciate it more. Definitely agree though that it should’ve had 12 episodes. Already from the recent episodes, I have no idea how they’ll wrap this story up. I’ve never read the novel so maybe that’s how the author intended it to be, but having 12 episodes would’ve been great for this second part of the story.
I’m not gonna lie, I haven’t been interested in many of the GLs coming out but this one is really good! For one, the story and the effects are amazing. I’m not sure if Netflix helped with their budget but if they did then you really see it in the quality.
The actresses are my favorite tho. There’s lots of depth to the characters without overstepping the line. You can see all the emotions on their faces. Especially for a cold character like Four, it’s nice that she shows more than grumpy pouting and nonchalance all the time. It’s very refreshing to see as a grumpy/sunshine lover.
Vivi is also soo cute. I hope she comes back next episode cus she’s that ICON.
Well that’s pretty unlikely since they already started workshops for Not Me, but I think they would just air 1 at first since they have a specific time slot for BLs, then they would air the next one after and so on. Also, they tend to plan a certain day or month to start filming but it’s never 100%. Sometimes things can happen such as COVID restrictions or maybe company issues that prevent the show’s process.
