I almost skipped over this because I also read "demon sect" in the description and I'm kind of done with xianxia at this time. I'm glad I watched it because it's great.

I'm glad I gave this a shot because I ended up binge watching all the episodes. This gives such a angsty wuxia vibe I love it; the sins of the previous jianghu generation poisoning the lives of the younger ones, the FL just wanting to stay out of it all but can't because she's righteous like her aunt and can't turn away from injustice, the morally gray ruthless ML driven by revenge but will prob have to make a difficult choice. I also love how clever the FL is! The ML is also so good at playing a master manipulator (but can't hide how much he likes her).

I don't know how much of a romance this is because this seems so wuxia trope coded and these usually have endings that are bittersweet at best. Like one dies, the other mourns forever but the world is safe or they both die but the world is safe or open-ended they fade into the world, status unknown and we don't know if they live or not. Eh either way I'm here for it.

He has multiple wives but he doesn't get physical with them. He was infamous in the palace for avoiding women. The dongua didn't really go into how his son came to be but I believe it was...not with his consent which further broke his mind even more.

Xie Yonger is a character in the book Devil's Consort which both ML and FL transmigrated to. In this book Xie Yonger is a character who transmigrated into a book called *A Thousand Trees Blossom at Night " . She is not aware that she's actually in the Devil's Consort book and is a story character. So to her this world is "A Thousand Trees Blossom at Night " .

The metaphor was telling when the SML asked FL if it's too late if the foundation is already set and she said no. The SML probably feels like he is bound to his dad in whatever may come but this may be a foreshadowing that he will take a stance later on and not follow along his dad's destructive ways. During the materials tour, I think his focus on safety and doing things right is genuine and not just trying to put on a show for her.

I also don't think SML is really in love with her but I think this may be the first time he's getting candid answers from someone that matches his gut feeling (that his dad's not doing everything good) so he may be confusing a connection like this with love.

At this point it is obvs that Pei senior is a calculating, bad person.

When he said that the person who marries his son should be useful to him, it implied that he married ML's mom for her shares in the company (so he can prob own it all) and not really for affection for her. And who would say that in front of HER own son from the previous marriage?

The dynamic also showed why ML worked so hard, worked multiple jobs to support himself and go independent because not only is he investigating the past, but taking Pei Sr's money means total control over him. Pei Jr. couldn't even say anything challenging to his dad, not about finances, not about his supposed "love"; he is so cowed by him at this point.

Even if the ML wasn't romantically interested in FL and was just a friend, I feel like he would still try to protect her from his scummy step-dad.

One of the best way of dealing with a vague situation I've ever seen. She just went and...said it! Love her and love it! I can see PZ just taken aback and flustered with the honesty because he's probably never had anyone say the truth like that to him to his face.

I really like his "shameless but so charming you let him get away with it" roles. There is a scene in Ep 8 where they really push his puppy dog eyes look to the limit and it is pretty funny. I think the director knows how to bring out his best here.

I am unapologetically enjoying this show. Binge watched all the episodes. The crazy antics, the over-the-top dramas, the long list of unstable suiters, an amnesia arc that is somehow tolerable and the creepy creepy blind sister who is probably a mastermind of some sort and pulling strings which is so different from the traditional trope where the blind girl is good/naive/angelic. This show should advertise to bring the popcorn.

I need to catch up but I just wanted to comment that this ML actor is marvelous when it comes to roles like this fight choreo and wirework. Obviously he is very good looking but I'm always so impressed with his action sequences because he does seem to do the ethereal grace thing well. That's all I hope this is good. The first episode definitely grabbed my attention.

I will be honest that so far to me, this show is like a box of chocolate samplers. Some parts of it are just fantastic and my fav and there are some parts that I just don't care or even annoy me (like those chocolates with fruit filling, just why). I will keep watching though because it is entertaining and the actors are definitely putting in the work.

This theory is intriguing and I can see the ruthless power grab type from the Jinxiu prince. But I just don't get why he would go that far to assassinate the FL if he just wanted the marriage alliance then coup on his bro emperor later on. She is his subordinate so if he just broke up with her it's not like anything would happen, unless I guess he wanted to just inflame the war and continue to beat the war drum by blaming her death on Susha.

Yes it was bittersweet and also beautiful. There was so much love for their parents and they were good kids from good people. Knowing that they could prevent the hell their parents experienced and the 30+ years of sorrow they endured, they opted to sacrifice their present for a hope for them. I felt sad for YN and SC and wish they too had a good life.

What a beautiful ending and although it is open ended like many others this one for once actually thematically made sense.

I was not expecting to cry buckets 😭 The FL and ML did a superb job portraying these two broken and battered souls who still find love and hope in their hell. I only knew the FL from her other recent drama but I think she has a bright future for her because she was fantastic here. I thought the ending was fitting and hopeful. I hope these two will get some more great roles in their career.

This is very cute. Also I like how the FL is successful in modern life and is still witty and smart even in this new world. I also like the way the king chuckles with delight when he eats because good food does feel that way!

This show is a nightmare for anyone on calorie restrictions. I have to have a full stomach when watching because all the food looks so good!

I agree with this , I am truly hoping for a good wrap to this show if it ends in the modern time, at least one or two episodes for it. I'm eyeing the episode count and there is only 9 more to go and people are saying there is another arc after this...? I hope it is not rushed at the end.

Ah it's sweet that he suspects she was never Liao Tingyan in the first place but he doesn't care because he will always find her soul no matter what her name is or what she looks like (is this foreshadowing for the end?)

I liked how her gaze was cold and wary in the beginning and then became warmer when she realized some truths. The FL is doing a great job.

I agree. A bad adaptation can still be a good work on its own. This is why I don't read the books or try to watch with a blank canvas even if I know the work it's from. The purists have a vision and if it's not met 100% the work is considered automatic trash.
