In doing research into this IP, I ended up binge watching every single episode of the donghua which is absolute Fire 🔥! Expectations must be really high for this so I hope they can deliver!

Yes I agree, also agree it's pretty neat that he seems to have dual goals for every action. Going to Danzhou to find evidence and get background info regarding his possible future wife and also investigate the missing funds. Bring her to the torture hall to feed her because she's been starved for days but also arm twist her into helping him on the investigation. Very calculating so I think FL will have trouble trusting but then again, she might also be a bird of the same feather anyway.
Wow, up to 6, and it’s keeping me on my toes! So many secrets and suspense !! I’m really enjoying this one.
Yes! Episode 6 and I still have so many questions and yet I can't stop watching and glued to every scene. The domestic power struggle here is just as riveting as a palace intrigue and it's coming to light that everything may be tied to something that happened in the past. And this is one of the weirdest courtship? Let me burn down my house and show you where I work, and also have dinner with your favorite food in the torture hall. This ML is....something.
EP1 - Is everyone just crazy in this show? I like the FL so far. Also that they showed glimpses of how she is actually cooold as ice and can't be easily hurt like when she had to pretend yelp during flogging (showed a slight delay and mom noticed it too). Definitely an intriguing start!
Wow that grandmother is a piece of work. He can't even keep a picture of his parents around? And then she calls him weak? Who is the weak one blaming a CHILD for the accident. I think it is a mistake for him to keep appeasing her. She is so beyond evil.
Something that further highlights the grandmother's cruelty is during the conversation where she says her son would have been the perfect heir and that he is irreplaceable. But from the brief flashback, her son never struck me as someone as cruel as her, seemed like a loving father who was taking time to take his son to a cartoon convention. I think she doesn't actually believe what she said it but is using guilt to mold the ML to be like HER instead of being like his father. Constantly destroying self-esteem and using guilt on a child to manipulate is what abusers do and I am curious whether this show will give her a redemption arc because she is just so so awful. I hope she doesn't and dies alone.
Based on the preview the grandma is going to piss me off SO MUCH, DON'T TOUCH THE SECRET ROOMðŸ˜
Yes I think it's going to be another heartbreak for him. He really has nothing for himself other than that room. She'll probably burn it or destroy his stuff again. That woman is so evil.
That rabbit pirate stuffy is so cute, like this show. I feel like the ML is carrying this drama moreso than the FL but it could be the script since she plays the more serious, reserved role versus the ML's goofiness. Overall this is funny and enjoyable.
those who blame kids for accidents are definitely immatured and cruel
That is unforgivable to me. Kids often already blame themselves a lot for things out of their control (divorce, parent getting sick, etc.). This has damaged him forever, the GM is just vile.
Delightful show. He is terrified and embarrassed of his true self and she has always shouldered all burdens and could never be a child even though she likes childish things too. Also they are both so highly competitive, I love them. I look forward to this the most now. The password scene was hysterical, it was so over the top for no reason. I thought the ML in Twinkling Watermelon was wonderful and he is doing great here as well.
Had a lot of fun watching this, terrific show. The end took some nonsensical setups especially with teacher Lee's decision making but it led to everyone fighting their own demons and getting past it, not just for GaMin but for every one in the Study Group. I'm also probably not the only one who didn't skip the intro song. 😄great OST too.
Surprised and enjoyed how they fleshed out the character of Sun Cheol. He seemed like just another thug/guard #1 last week but this week showed how everyone has a story, personal pain and desire to be better, just that the circumstances like this high school and people like Han Ul stamp them out. The show can go so quickly from action to comedy to heartbreak but it's all done so well. Credit to actor Cha Woo Min, considering his character is the big bad, he has very little amount of dialogue so bulk of his acting is subtle and menacing and he's doing a good job. Also laughed when that guy called GaMin ugly and he took off his glasses and the camera held his face for a few sec, it was like yes let's look at this face.
Ep 20: SYS and XRR watch an entire saga about obsessive love and not letting go leading to death and tragedy. SYS: 👀...that can't be me Green Scale: OMG ok here, THIS is what will happen SYS: hmm...ok...maybe🤔 Spirit Spring: Look I can make you do THIS! SYS: ok fine I'm kind of convinced now.
This is just my own view, I feel the main plot is moving rather slowly but the individual episodes are well done and entertaining. It feels like a sort of "monster of the week" format and the sides stories are enjoyable, like the loyal cat and the love story. But it's already at the halfway point and everyone is still pining for each other with little change. Although the next few episodes look like they will progress the main plot.
Oh I see that this is the same screenwriter for MLC. This explains it a lot. As much as I adored MLC, I think I enjoyed it a lot more when I watched it once it was completed and this seems to follow the similar structure. Now it makes me nervous about the ending.
Lets ignore the rating for now, it'll get better once more ppl see this drama :DI just rewatched ep 7 and 8 and…
I think it's because the ML is so good at expressing the emotions. You can see mixture of disbelief, despair, the panic and fear and then fury during the scene which is perhaps why the director gave it so much screentime to it.
I have to say I really liked the character of MQG. She obviously enjoyed life's pleasures but she also took her roles and responsibilities as master of a sect seriously. She said she would pay for her any of her disciple's mistakes (which is why she chose the good looking ones) which sounded like a jest but she really did it no matter how big the mistake was, even if it cost her life. She seemed frivolous but she wasn't at all. Then when she was dying she was like "alright peace out, it was a good life except for that one thing but eh, just do this one last thing for me SYS". She actually set it up so if SYS followed the instructions and ascended and did the thing the world would be ok even without her. But SYS just decided to do his own thing anyway.
This ML is so very good looking. I can see why his shifu would take him to her mountain. Also EP 7 was some of the best angst I've seen so I know this is probably going to be one big emotional rollercoaster of a plot. I just hope it doesn't end sadly.
Also that jade immortal seriously needs to invest in better home security.
Fantastic show. I don't even seek out this genre but this is riveting and so well produced. The fight scenes are just 😙🤌 good. I adore this dorky, bright eyed, lovable yet also deadly ML. Hwang Min Hyun is perfect as this character.
