Thanks for the summary!
No problem, glad I could help! I managed to watch the series without subs (I only understand a few mandarin words) and understand its plot but I normally would've waited as well. I did it for the bromance moments but I also love the body switching trope if done correctly. In my opinion this series does make it interesting up to episode 13. They don't do a big reveal of the body switch either which was unfortunate to me (won't give details beyond that as to avoid spoilers).

Title My Engineer
This has got off to a good start. I see that it shows some of the hallmarks of "new improved" m/m romance stories…
It's because of SOTUS, the male-dominated engineering study is just a popular place to choose as a setting. You could choose a different setting but engineering is just the most popular choice and always recognisable from the jackets and the gears.

Title Crash Landing on You Spoiler
It's definitely not a drama for those who have a strong need for logical plotpoints. The logic behind the story…
Yea for me the way they fall in love is not as important as how interesting the drama makes the story. I've watched series where the part of falling in love takes ages but also those where it takes one look. Well, this is getting offtopic though. I understand your point and respect your opinion.

Well... I like 10-20 year old kdramas (sure they're cheesy but it's comforting to watch sometimes) so I guess in that case it may just be a difference in taste. The romance made my heart flutter multiple times when they crossed the border because I knew the significance that the border holds for Korean people and the symbolism they were portraying. Captain Ri also got my heart when they show him shooting at the killer-truck on his motorbike. I agree that Seri's friendship with the guys was one of the highpoints of the series though. I personally didn't like the second couple as much and often skipped their scenes up until the last episodes.

So I guess I am in the minority but for some reason I couldn't enjoy this drama as much as others did..I usually…
It's definitely not a drama for those who have a strong need for logical plotpoints. The logic behind the story was never meant to be one of the strong points of this series. If you want logic in your drama, go watch crime/law/medical dramas.
I personally can switch off my need for logic in dramas if the series can prove that it shines in other parts. The human connections in this series, the cultural jokes and the sweet love story was enough for me to stay.

Title Crash Landing on You Spoiler
Call me shallow but I dont get how, was it three? Four? Kisses and living with someone for a month or less suddenly…
Well the guy was engaged to another woman for a large part of the series so it would be weird for him to immediately switch to another woman. Besides that, he felt like he would lose her in a short period of time due to her leaving North Korea so I understand why he withheld from having too much attachment.

The reason why he is in ''love of my life'' category is because she met him before and he prevented her suicide from depression. For him she was an escape from his rigid life where everything was already set up for him, he longed for someone who he could be emotionally open with. Personally I did feel intimacy but I'm one of the ''the Untamed'' watchers so I'm used to intimacy being projected through looks and micro-expressions. I don't even need to see kisses/passionate touches for me to believe that there is love.

Title My Love Rival Is Myself Spoiler
I finished the series without subs and here's my opinion. The episodes with the male roommates where 1 of them is the transformed girl (male-body) were the cutest (up to ep 13?). They have such a bromance going and I feel like we were robbed from a few cute scenes between them. However, if there was a clear romance between them then the ending would've probably hit even worse.
After episode 13 the girl regains her girl-body and has to go up against her past male-body who intends to stay with the guy she romanced as a male. I personally hated the main female character in her female body, she is so fake and whiny unlike the guys who didn't have such pressure to act cute. I feel SO sorry for the anime-dude who the main female character kinda fools to make him think that he has a chance.
Basically, even though they try to make the guy evil after ep 13 by making him do scary faces and douchy behaviour, I still don't root for the girl to get the male roommate. The ending is of course that the girl and guy get together but I feel like they really don't have much connection between them in her girl-body.
Basically, watch until she regains her girl-body because after that the stupid drama starts.

Also, I know the producers removed the intimate scene between the guys from the opening which was supposed to happen in episode 12, weak move. You can see that it cuts from the guy standing away from the wall to suddenly against the wall.

i shipped XX with SJS and GYZ with QMT. But that breaks my Shen Junshan's heart so bad. I wanna see his reaction…
Yea the problem is that they don't do a direct reveal in the case of Shen. They do show him discovering XX at a play dressed as a girl but he doesn't find her afterwards. They use the excuse that it's XX's sister and Shen has to deal with suspicions before finally uncovering the whole truth bit by bit. His reaction at the play (XX singing) is probably the closest you'll get to a reveal situation.

So this is how China is dealing with the BL ban in 2020, huh? The only negative part of all this is that not a lot of people are willing to translate for a series that just isn't quite BL but tries to reach for it.

Basically this series is about a girl transforming into a guy and getting a male roommate. The male roommate assumes the feminine guy is just weird or an enemy to his love-life but eventually starts befriending them. The friendship mostly blossoms because transformed girl is helping the male roommate with getting his female crush at first. The drama in this series is mostly about the random girl that the male roommate mistakes as his past crush and he gets obsessive about her.
I gotta say, the transformed girl is a longterm catfisher to the anime-fan character (with the app (s)he uses) and I always disliked that. His/her scenes with the male roommate are luckily the main attraction of the series.

For those interested in Bromance/BL-moments:
Episodes: 4 (dancing together, protective fight v1), 7 (first shopping''date'', protective fight v2), 8 (giving the jacket to his friend, binding a red thread of fate on his friend, protective fight v3 ), 9 (general cute care-taking scenes), 10 (second ''date'' at a bench with some sprite (reminds me of Tharntype)), 12 (male roommate gets hallucinations about his friend), 13 (gifts phone to his friend).
Also, is he reading a BL comic in episode 6? I wasn't sure.

I saw someone link this site but it's only in Chinese unfortunately. Better than nothing I suppose.https://v.have8.tv/drama/2/26903/dailymotion.html?0-1-0
No problem, I personally love crossdress dramas with some commitment to the storyline. There's not a lot out there so it's a shame this one received so little attention. Can't even properly judge its quality due to lack of subs.

All 3 couples are cute but the Korean dude definitely makes this worth watching. Sure the beginning starts off a bit rocky with kidnappings and weird family relations but once that is sorted out the 3 couples start to get their time to shine.
Watch world most confident gay dude turn into worlds most panicked gay dude within the course of a second. I would watch an entire series solely for the Korean bro's adventures in trying to get someone to love him.

Thanks writers for your hard work! I've found multiple articles from this site very interesting and most importantly it brought me further in my drama journey across genres and cultures. I especially liked the one from a while ago about North Korean dramas but I also like to read the ones about interesting upcoming shows.

As someone who barely interacted with kdrama before 2019 (a newbie) I think I have my own view on things but I do understand and respect the veteran watchers here who are commited to the cause. Most kdramas I watch right now are those that are in recommended lists of kdrama experts (classic ones) or those that are highly praised (like Crash landing on You). So basically I still have a huge collection of classics to go through and will only watch current romantic kdrama with amazing ratings. If I'm bored I do look through all of the new releases and may pick a current kdrama with a unique premise but if the first episode doesn't speak to me I'll drop it. I'm usually not satisfied with ''good''/''okay'' romantic dramas, if I'm spending my time on a series it better have something amazing going for it. Be it chemistry, comedy, mystery or the storyline. So if you're very bothered by the lack of quality right now I'd suggest dropping shows earlier, rewatch classics and patiently wait for the few actual good shows that release in a year.
This Japanese BL drama had some strong Youtube recommendations and it's been posted about in some BL-circles lately so I decided to watch it to see what the hype was about.
I encountered 5 episodes of the most wholesome and pure relationship development in a BL that I've ever seen. I definitely recommend watching this for happy feelings and a realistic story.

Nice no to BL.
Aren't there enough Chinese dramas with straight couples already? Also, even if they showed a bit of their romance, it'd still only be considered bromance since BL includes a lot more than just hints at love.
Replying to Dim Mar 5, 2020
lol, is it as obvious as in Guardian?
Yikes, so it won't be iconic. Thanks for letting us know that they intend to play it safe.

Synopsis reminds me a lot of Sungkyunkwan Scandal which was quite enjoyable. It sounds cute and fun! ❤️
Was just about to comment that as well, would love to see different version of that drama.
On Be Crazy About Me Mar 4, 2020
Very typical Japanese highschool movie but always fun to see them try something different with a girl as the prince-type and a guy as the princess-type. The clothing styles are very stylish, especially the girls band. Reminds me of some mix between emo styles and lolita styles. Everyone in the guys school is into the girly guy and everyone in the girls school looks up to the cool ladies from the band. For BL fans: There's some scenes between the main girly guy and some of his male schoolmates but nothing big and he really looks a LOT like a girl.
