Oh personally I think the drama is just a fantasy situation so I don't think its completely fair to compare to the real situation in Japan. Obsessed characters occur in every country but they are just more of a theme in certain BL stories, you can find these character types in Chinese BLs too. Like the dude in Addicted: Heroin was also pretty obsessed with the other guy (as the title suggests).

Thats part of the unique MDL lifestyle to avoid arguments. Which I only follow occasionally personally.

I'm sorry to hear about your own negative experiences in the past, bullying is a horrible thing to happen to anyone.

Anyway to avoid going too deeply into the show I found a scientific paper on bullying in Japanese schools published in 2006.
I quote: ''A well-known definition of bullying by the pioneering Scandinavian researcher Olweus (1999) is as follows: “A student is being bullied or victimized when he or she is exposed repeatedly and over time to negative actions on the part of one or more other students” . The actions may be direct or indirect and of a more physical or a more psychological nature. In addition, there should be real or perceived asymmetric power relationships between the bully and his or her victims. ''

So based on that researchers definition I would definitely think that this behaviour from Kiyoi is classified as bullying considering the assymetric power relationship is there in episode 1 and the actions (words he said) were negative.
But you do have an interesting perspective on it. If Kiyoi really is thinking that far ahead then I'd be impressed but I don't think he can make the right conclusion on how to treat a person with that limited amount of information available to him. He doesn't know Hira personally, he only just met him and heard him say ''beautiful''. So I don't think he considered Hiras comfort in his decision to treat Hira the way he does. But again its an interesting perspective, thanks for sharing it.

Japan does have its own definition of what is called Ijime/bullying which is as follows:
''“to treat a weak person(s) harshly.” Other dictionaries use translations such as: “to be cruel to, to tease, to annoy, to bully.”
I do think this still applies to Hiras situation.

Oh I don't mind the bullying theme in the show. I just think its odd that somehow some users are denying that it is bullying but I'm willing to see their perspective.

Yes I will continue to watch it and more than that I will probably end up liking the show considering what I've heard about the novel. The show depicts its type of story well and I have nothing against it. I just disagree with the interpretations of some others but I don't mind discussing about that a bit to see if an agreement can be found.

Yeah Hira isn't outspoken. That gives Kiyoi no right to just give him orders. Not exactly seeing how that makes them closer, if you're friendly with someone you say ''hi'' to them or you show them kindness.

Imagine the situation if Hira wasn't creepily into Kiyoi. How miserable would Hira be to be in that situation? And his general apathy about life doesn't mean that it doesn't affect him longterm to be treated like this. Trauma can show its effects years after an event occurs sometimes because it remains in the subconcious.

Now back to the scenarion in the show he's still in that situation except its his crush treating him like dirt so he's more accepting of it. Still doesn't excuse Kiyois behaviour, no matter if Hira minds it or not.

The only kindness we've seen from Kiyoi is protecting Hira from a different bully. This is likely just a bully protecting his victim from others to have sole control. It shows the rest of the class not to mess around with anything related to Kiyoi. I think Kiyois general behaviour shows a disregard of Hira as an equal human being, no matter what his internal dialogue was when insulting Hira. Again this dynamic will likely change but I don't think anyone should disregard that this is just plain bullying from Kiyoi in episode 1.

Its a craft that takes sacrifice to master. I'm glad you have already acquired the resistence ^^

I will send my blessings to you if you do happen to venture into the past with these Japanese movie titles. I've seen the effects on others, not everyone manages to make it through with full sanity. But perhaps that is all part of the ritual required to rid ourselves of the cringe sensitivity in life.
Don't worry I didn't send the worst ones though, these should be able to be watched ironically XD

I don't see a point in picking a definitive side of the ''good guy'' when clearly both MLs are wrong in their actions at this point. Neither is a morally outstanding person. I can see both the creepy side of Hira and the powerhungry Kiyoi being wrong. If Kiyoi was a good person he'd treat Hira like a classmate and not like a deliveryboy from the beginning. The show is likely using this dynamic to suggest they fit each other since they are both possessive in their own ways.

Also I know not everyone agrees on whether its bullying but for me this behaviour witnessed in episode 1 is 100% bullying. This might change in future episodes but for now I really can't see it differently. Bullying is not just physical abuse, its also psychological abuse. ML is clearly being harassed and not seen as an equal in the classroom thanks to his stutter.

If you expose yourself to the cringe long enough you can grow resistance to it. That happened to me and now I can watch just about any show and don't even notice anything anymore.

Its very different from Kieta Hatsukoi and Cherry Magic but has some interesting elements and definitely keeps the attention.

I guess we will see how it develops now that Kiyoi is there to actively intervene in the future too.
I believe he said ''Kimoi'' / キモい which translates to disgusting/gross as far as I'm aware. He says ''omae kimoi/ お前 キモイ which is ''You (informal) are gross'' in the scene where ML called him beautiful.

The second time (as far as I'm aware) is the one where he takes a picture of Kiyoi drinking whereafter he says ''omae uzai'' which is ''You're ugly''. So from that second interaction I feel like there was definitely an intent to put him down and not just call out the cheeziness of the situation. But this is just my interpretation. I feel like that's the nice thing about shows, you can interpret stuff differently at times. Mayby I'm looking at it too negatively and theres already something going on
