Its just initial reactions. We don't have anything else to base our expectations on (except reading the novel I guess) currently and this first episode was pretty heavy. With the stalking, bullying ect.. Also I think warning BL fans that it isn't fluff like previous JBLs of this year is fair.

You're right relationships can be unique in a lot of ways. For me the possessive dynamic reminded me of examples like A Round Trip to Love and Addicted Heroin. I will say theres definitely an audience for these shows so its not necessarily a bad thing, just different. I will continue to watch the show as its interesting to me how things will develop.

Oh I read the manga of that way back! Yeah its cute! Have you had a chance to see the new JBL Utsukushii Kare yet? I'd love to hear your thoughts, its a lot darker than Kieta Hatsukoi.

I like to hear that it does happen but yeah unfortunate that it takes so long. Its like a slowburn romance except for this its a slowburn towards a healthy romance.

I can see thats where the shows trying to go with it, the whole power game they're setting up. It is mild bullying in comparison to some other depictions I've seen of bullying in Japan but still wanted to mention it. I know some users are adverse to seeing bullying depicted in shows they watch.
And yeah that final thing you mentioned is the possessiveness that both MLs have towards each other. Hira being the more obvious one but Kiyoi also already getting trapped in that pattern.

But the bullies do make fun of his stutter though. Not only by laughing about it but also by replicating it to parody it later.
In the first scene this happens they show the world around the ML warping, I think he is definitely impacted by it in a negative way. I think he will just care less in the future due to his love for the other ML blinding him to the negative aspects.

Its certainly an interesting show. I will warn Kieta Hatsukoi and Cherry Magic fans that the vibe is very different in the first episode.
KH & CM are wholesome love stories while UK is possessive love. The ML has some issues and it gives a feeling of uncertainty and twisted love at this point. In short, this isn't building to a healthy relationship from the start and it will likely take a while for that to fix (if that's the shows intent). I hope at the end of the show the ML will have some selflove.
Also for anyone sensitive to it: This show has a lot of bullying scenes at the start.

No fansubs needed, theres official subs unlike with Kieta Hatsukois first episodes where no official English translation occured.

The main actors are both in boygroups. The two songs you hear in this show are from boy groups Snow Man (Idas actor with the nickname Meme) and Naniwa Danshi (Aokis actor with the nickname Michi).

You should look up their MVs sometime. Ones called Ubulove and the other Secret Touch.

Ride on Time is a show that features solely boygroups from Japan. It's pretty interesting and gives a good insight, would recommend it. It shows the struggle to succeed in the Japanese music business. The shows name is a reference to a wellknown older citypop song from Japan from singer Tatsuro Yamashita which they also use as theme music throughout the show.

Its perfectly understandable text. You just aren't familiar enough with the Japanese music industry and you haven't looked into the background of the main actors of this show.
Look into Johnnys Entertainment sometime. They've existed since the 1960s with different groups so its not an age thing.
Groups like Naniwa Danshi, Snow Man but also older ones like KAT-TUN, SMAP, Arashi ect..

Given and Pornographer were pretty good and I loved Takane no Hana-san too. It was fun with the tsundere character. If you have any other recommendations let me know! Nice to hear someone who watches mostly content from Japan

Idk about the rest of the episodes since I haven't seen them yet but the first two were alright and pretty funny.

Its a pretty different experience from most Joseon dramas. Not a ton happens in the show but theres romance so thats nice.

Yes because its a BL and nothing wrong with that. A lot of this site consists of BL fans so to have a drama become more succesful because it has BL content is not some sort of surprise. There's way less jdrama fans than BL fans on MDL and its been that way for a while.

I do agree its true that a bunch of BLs in the recent past have been less exaggerated. Like His 2019 or Kinou nani tabeta? 2019 were way toned down in comparison to this.

I will say there was an age of JBL (pre 2018) where the exaggerated label definitely applied bigtime. If you are more familiar with these early 2010s JBLs then yes Kieta Hatsukoi (and other recent JBLs) have been a whole different vibe. It was the wild west out there with titles such as Fujimi Orchestra or Same Difference or Candy and Kiss or even the entire Takumi-kun series which was pretty ridiculous at times. So there is definitely a line upwards to realism overall if we take into account all released BLs from Japan over the years, it really depends on what you're used to.

Unfortunate to hear you don't like Japanese comedy in shows. But yes its one of the genres as you can see on this drama page. I really like it myself so haven't really been bothered by it. Does it take away from the seriousness? Mayby but the overall atmosphere feels really light for the majority of the time and I don't dislike that myself.
