I did it. I finally watched the lakorn everyone keeps recommending. Overall I mean some of the characters frustrated me a ton but I will admit the story keeps you interested in what happens next. It was a lot of emotional pain for all the characters generally and a tiny bit of cute moments.
first of all, i have to admit that im an apologist for this show so here's some points i wanna defend the show…
Oh I compare Japanese and Hongkong versions only cause I just love the Ossans Love franchise in general and like to discuss about it. Both have their own charms and I am really glad to hear that this adaptation feels like a true Hongkong adaptation to you. Its been a real entertaining show to watch and definitely feels like its own thing despite of how similar it is because of how it localizes so many aspects.
And yeah now that you mention the main leads not being professional actors like the jdrama ones are it definitely makes it impressive what they accomplished. I looked into it and they only entered the acting industry around 2019. Meanwhile the main leads of the Japanese Ossans Love had at least ~10-15 years of acting experience before starring in Ossans Love. So that's really good work from them considering the difference in acting experience.
I'm not from Hongkong myself but I definitely feel the hype for this first Hongkong BL with its own cultural identity and I hope more projects will follow. I was actually really happy when I first heard about it as well because yes doing a first BL series is a huge step towards more regular BL production (like Korea).
Found it without subs. In my opinion the movie could've handled the serious topics better. I feel like the movie had a lot more potential.
The movie depicts the very serious struggles of LGBT in the past but also mixes it with some very problematic themes that would've better been left out. You will know when you watch it. If you are a sensitive person I would advice to avoid this movie.

As someone who has also been watching this show and who has watched Ossans Love from Japan before this I would agree. Maki was a character that was really great with showing emotions and that really contributed to the watching experience. A break from the more comedic elements of the show in a way. Siu Muk is sweet but I don't see that same chemistry as in the original. But overall I like this new version of Ossans Love.
