Title The Untamed
The truth is, you will never know if you will enjoy a drama before you watch it, just by its description, reviews,…
Bit of a general tangent but purposefully avoid female POV's? Not really, I've read/watched my fair view as if the plot looks interesting enough I'll watch or read it regardless of gender. But in general if I'm deciding between two things to watch with not much else to discern them other than things like the gender and age of the leads, I'd tend to go for the young male pov yes, as I enjoy them more so I naturally will. In this case I've literally had two forays into cdramas, Nirvana in Fire and Love me if you Dare, so the library of options I have for my next cdrama watch is very big so I'm not short of options.

I don't see that perspective being any different to their rightfully being a longing for more female representation in books/films/shows/sports etc, so females growing up can have role models/general things they can relate to more. For me it's quite clearly a natural progression towards a facet of equality. So male POV's are normal for you but it won't be for future female generations which is a good outcome surely?

Avoidance is not the same as intolerance, I'm indifferent to the entire LGBT side of things and it has zero impact on my life in the grand scheme of things.

I don't see how anyone can categorise preferences as intolerant as that's the idea of being against that representation when I have zero issue with it, it's just near the bottom of what I'd enjoy watching in a TV show/film along with a bunch of other things. So I tend to "avoid" it as I'm not going to proactively watch things I don't think I'll enjoy.

The idea some people that have replied to me have that not enjoying it makes you a bigot seems more intolerant than anything I've inferred.

Well yes, I naturally look at comments and reviews to see what people enjoy about the drama and its story before deciding to give it a watch, and if it seems like something I won't enjoy I don't watch.

Yet another bigoted random dude who judge a book by its cover, or people by their clothes... If I were to judge…
I can only assume you're being dense on purpose.

Not one mention of ratings in my original post. Not one mention of the quality of the show or for it to be of lower quality than that of Nirvana in Fire just because of boylove (for my enjoyment yes but quality? I never once mentioned that). You've literally just made that all up to have this rant and cry bigot.

It was purely about the content of the show and the supposed similarities (that would make you recommend one from the other) that clearly through the responses here don't really hold up other than them being historical and wuxia, which are very broad descriptions and mainly just give you information of the setting of the show (not the content itself which is the crux of any show - politicking is the crux of NIF)

In the grand scheme of things I could not care less what you think but get a clue and some comprehension skills.

I find this genre hard to pull off as nearly every twist/motivation etc has been done before so they can get predictable and the temptation of throwing in plotholes to keep the mystery going over the 16 episodes (i.e. dumb police mistakes, the villain becoming the Terminator etc) can make them drag

Rooting for the directors and writers to hopefully keep this interesting - I thought The Watcher came close but it fell short for me

The female lead is nailing her role at the moment

I had my ideas and they were essentially confirmed - there was no more to my comment. It's not as prominent as you'd think going by all the comments and reviews but it's there.

And I'm sorry but you're literally replying to everyone of my comments without any context as to who I'm replying to, otherwise you'd realise what most of my responses are inferring , and it's nowt to do with the quality of the show as I obviously haven't watched it.

People have asked me genuine general questions about why and I responded - on the show itself I quite clearly do understand that it's a part of the show though not as big as it is based on the comments and reviews, there's not much else to it.

It which universe have I said it was bad? I'm not focusing on tags, "boylove" isn't even a tag for this show.

If I'm looking for dramas to watch on MDL and 95% of the comments are about something I know I'm not big on watching (I have the same energy if all people are talking about are love triangles), I will be a lot more likely to watch something else.

Why have any reviews on this site if not to aid people on what they want to watch or not?

You being the opposite is fair enough but that's not how it works for most people - which is why films/tv shows/books can easily target certain demographics/genders/sexualties etc

My point on bringing sexism up was to laugh at the idea that what I prefer to watch makes me a bigot, it's as absurd as saying someone that prefer watching films with female leads is sexist - it's very normal to prefer shows/books/films with characters you can relate to more.

They would overlap in those broad genres but Nirvana in Fire is mainly about politicking with absolute minimal romance, think early House of Cards/Game of Thrones. It's the shows unique selling point and what makes it as good as it is.

All people seem to be talking about wrt this drama is the romance and the relationship between the leads, not the story. Other than a historical setting with Wuxia it doesn't seem like there's much overlap if that's the main appeal for people and that's fine.

And I wouldn't say uncomfortable, you're just naturally going to drift towards shows with characters you relate to most. As a guy I wouldn't go out of my way to watch shows with all female leads for example, not because I'm sexist, it's just harder to relate. Just like I wouldn't expect females to happily pick watching The Expendables for example over any other films with strong female leads they can relate to more. I'm no different to when I'm picking books to read, I'll nearly always prefer a male POV.

Some absolutely delusion people replying to me with no idea what being bigoted actually means.

Nirvana in Fire does take 3/4 episodes to get into as there are a lot of players but it's probably the best Asian drama I've ever seen and in top 5 regardless of language. If you liked early Game of Thrones with the scheming, great acting and tight storylines you'll enjoy it.

After reading that the books it's based on is "boylove" (I find is a odd way to describe it btw, is it an MDL thing), every other comment below being about it, I don't think I could watch it with an open mind now as it's too ingrained in my head that that's what it's meant to be and is alluding to.

Which is fine but it's not for me - was just curious how someone had recommended this along with Nirvana in Fire.

Physically/mentally abusing someone and essentially imprisoning them over many years controlling every aspect of their life "is a bit off" - amazing.

I also feel cheated by the description. Was expecting revenge but all you got was some sappy lovesick lead that doesn't care for revenge 99.9% of the time. What a waste of time

Title The Item Spoiler
This show is just no funCan't recall the last time I've seen a bad guy so overpowered and I don't have it in me…
He's a rich chaebol, and as per the second female lead he "controls Korea", can get the minister of justice to come to him whenever he wants and listen to him etc

On top of that he has items that make him extra strong and he can also see the future. He also has tech no-one has, owns cameras no-one in the country does so he knows where the good guys are at all times, also has them bugged so he can listen to everything they're planning so they can routinely fall into his trap. Can now also shapeshift.

Yes it's obvious the good guys will win towards the end but this journey is just not fun at the moment. Watching the good side lose every episode and fall into his traps is boring because it's so obvious now. Considering we're more than half way through this drama and this is still the case has just made it flat.

Hype up the priest who's the fighter of evil, has his own cool items and will surely help the good guys - nope, dies/loses in his first confrontation.

I like seeing the good guys struggle to overcome the bad guys more than most but this show is just ridiculous.
