Regarding the cultural thing, I think it's due to mainly censorship. China is still considered very conservative country so they won't be able to pass censorship if they have the ML/FL being 'promiscuous', hence you see alot of 30 years old virgins in c-drama land. Look at all these actors/actress being condemned/banned for sleeping around, cheating.

haha I just went and checked out the reviews. That's hilarious. Some people just like the attention, even when it's negative. Now who is really being childish? lol

Yes that's true. I think reviews might carry more weight in terms to ratings. That's why I don't think people should be allowed to write a review after watching 1 episode. For the longest time I was wondering why some people can rate the drama 'completed' when it just started. It was due to the review, you can state how many episodes you've watched and some people just put all episodes.

I think MDL is just using the average users rating here. Someone once rated an episode 1 star, so I felt sorry about it, so I gave it a 10 and the rating then changed to 5 so it would take 4 very positive scores to counter that 1 negative rating, hence why people here are very generous with the rating if there are people giving very low scores.

1 star is way more damaging to the ratings. It will take at least four 10 stars rating to make it an 8 which is an average score here on MDL. So if 10 people give it 1 star, then you need at least 40 people to give it 10 stars to make it an 8.

Different generation. people are way more forgiving before. Now everything is instant gratification. They watched 1 episode and dropped because they don't like the voice, the costume, the hair, the makeup, it's boring and annoying. I've seen so many comments about that instead of the drama itself.

Yes I feel bad for these actors/actresses. They are not allowed to make any mistakes. They need the fans to be popular but they are humans as well. These fans who are judging, I'm sure they are no better in their private lives.

I know. I'm talking about the overall reviews that show up when the drama is over but people can review the drama now even when it just started. Not a fair assessment of the drama.

I think MDL should prevent people from writing a review about the drama after watching 1 episode of the drama. That's just ridiculous and unfair to the drama. No wonder the ratings are so inconsistent. The should only allow users to review after the drama has finished airing. This way, at least it would be fair, whether good or bad, at least the person has invested some time in watching it and not just spent 1 minute on it, and just criticize the actors/actresses, since they have no idea what the story is about. I'm not referring to the ratings, just the reviews.
