I know it may be misleading when I say that the kdrama remake for BOF got lots of remakes from other countries…
There was no offense at all! I got a bit impassioned in my comment is all. There's been a bit of a debate about when things were originally aired in a different community I'm part of and my thoughts carried over here on accident. >..< I have to get better at thinking through my comments more.
I 100% agree that it seems the new Meteor Garden (2018) is inspiring the most recent chain of remakes/re-boots. I think the only misunderstanding would be someone not familiar with the correct chronology of what aired when (which you replied with) and assuming that the K-Drama version was first. Which is what I was attempting to get at and used too many words. Sorry for the confusion!
(Apologies if this comes off as harsh that's not my intention!)
My only nit-picky moment for this article; Boys Over Flowers was originally a Japanese manga adapted in the Japanese live action ( S1: 2005, S:2 2007 and 2008 for the movie respectively) it THEN became a K-Drama that's been adapted a million and a half times. To say Japan 'remade' the series... is just simply incorrect. That's my only fault with your article.
Additionally the very first, even before the Japanese drama version, version of Boys over Flowers was the Taiwanese versions (S1: 2001, S2:2002) titled as Meteor Garden.
I do admit that Boys Over Flowers became incredibly successful with the Korean remake (the 3 live action adaptation in Asia), and that rekindled the remakes in China, India and Indonesia. For sure, it deserves it's credit as to why 'Boys Over Flowers' is still being re-made (seemingly) so often. I just wanted to clarify the order in which remakes were done for new fans. I understand the mix-up since this is a K-Drama focused piece, but this section came off as under researched in my opinion.
Overall, I enjoyed reading your opinions on K-Dramas even though I don't watch many myself lol.
Not entirely pertinent to this article BUTThis really is bothering me but with Hwarang you only mention Taehyung…
I'm not familiar with K-Dramas at all, and when I wrote this I hadn't fully looked at the cast and double checked to make sure I got all the actors who were idols. It's been mentioned before but alas, I haven't been able to ask/make edits on this piece.
My two are "Innocent Lilies" (JDrama) and "The Fairy Fox" (CDrama). I just do not pick good fantasy in real life dramas. Both had the potential to be really good but under-developed story lines, newbies without experience acting and just obnoxious fan service killed them. I muddled through both seasons of "Innocent Lilies" (if only for Moga Mogami). And I don't even know why I bothered with "The Fairy Fox" after episode 5. But somehow I watched all the episodes.
