Thanks. Excellent review. I also thought it one of the best BLs I've seen. But you noticed so many things I didn't. So now I'll go back and watch it all again (which I was intending to do anyway), and like it twice as much.
I offered Nicchi to make German subs for various Wayufilm movies several times (for free, of course), but he never…
Thanks for your reply. That's really disappointing and hard to understand. If I was a BL producer I'd want my films to be seen and appreciated by as wide an audience as possible. And it wouldn't even have cost him anything! Would it help if I wrote to him suggesting he reconsider?
This is how BL fans have been conditioned to regard happy/pleasant endings as unnatural in a gay context. NOTHING…
The point you are making is perfectly reasonable, and I agree with you. It's regrettable that all your opponent has to offer in reply is hysterical abuse.
God, I hate the stupid tags people put up on MDL. The entire fucking plot is usually laid bare in that pile of…
I agree totally. Someone should also discourage the misguided reviewers who start out with a long list of politically correct "content warnings". For this series one of them thought that cupcakes needed to prepare themslves for such shocking events as "pet death" and a "kick".
Contrary to what you say, Cha Jung Woo did not stop writing for 3 years. Because his compulsion to write was so…
That Cha was writing under Kim's name is revealed shortly after halfway through, in ep.5 at 17:38 ("Don't you just need a slave who can keep writing under your name?" and "I'm sick of printing your name on my work"). [Viki English subtitles]
A lot of commenters complain that the story was hard to understand and criticise details of the plot. Maybe this is because Viki's English subtitles don't do a very good job of translating the subtler parts of the screenplay. The German subtitles are much better, and I finally understood the story in detail after switching to these. In my experience, anyone reliant on English subtitles for Asian BLs is at a disadvantage, because the English translators are usually worse than those who translate into, say, French and German.
Ohhh I love the subtle reveal about Cha Jung Woo’s disgrace. What did he do that was so bad to get him kicked…
Contrary to what you say, Cha Jung Woo did not stop writing for 3 years. Because his compulsion to write was so strong, he spent those three years writing books that Kim Jung Hyun out of either compassion or love allowed to be published under his own name. Only when the deception is revealed towards the end do we really understand what is driving Cha to publish under his own name again, and see that Kim was not as selfish and possessive as he at first appeared. And as you say, it is piquant that Cha was involved in the same sin as got him ostracised in the first place. But there is an important difference: the senior Cha accused used a ghostwriter to dishonestly bolster his own reputation. It was not Cha but Kim who did more or less this -- and only for altruistic reasons, not because his reputation needed any bolstering (as we see at the end when Kim is ahead of Cha on the best-seller list).
Can anyone please tell me where I can download the song that opens each episode? I'm watching in Viki and I can't even see an English credit for song or singer.
