The 2 episode finale might be the best finale/conclusion I have seen to any drama. Just WOW. I had goosebumps when he finally played shukumei at the concert hall. I was going to give this a 9 but after that mindblowing finale I can't give this any less than a 10.
And all those people commenting on the score did not exaggerate at all - i don't think i have heard a score as powerful and immersive as the one in this drama.
This is a criminally underrated drama.
Absolute masterpiece.
I am adding this to my favourites list.

Title Tokyo Swindlers Spoiler
What is it missing?
I wasn't focusing on detectives. Cant be bothered with them.
I just wanted more layers to the scamming gang.
They just focused on the scamming which was good but did not go into much detail about them as individuals. Takumi's story was not fleshed out enough and the way the head guy scouted him was too convenient.
It could have been better.
On Unmet: A Neurosurgeon's Diary Aug 6, 2024
Absolutely one of most well-written and acted romance + medical + slice of life dramas I have seen this year and I am not getting over this in a long time. Re-watched it for the 2nd time with a friend who just started her residency and she was in awe of the detail in this and called this one of the more authentic portrayals of what being a neurosurgeon is. They don't gloss over doctors being some kind of genius who just perform surgeries but rather show how much hard work and preparation go into it. Its even more amazing that the leads actually learnt to stitch authentically like doctors.

Don't even get me started on our leads - despite not having much skinship like dramas from other countries their relationship felt so intimate and real. This was not even branded as a romance drama and ended up being one of the most beautiful romances. They have become one of my most favourite pairings ever. Their love story moves me so much. When she told him that he illuminated her world I cried. Their hug, the way she drew him, the walks they took together, and just the way they supported each other was SOUL-STIRRING. I don't know what is it about them or just a lot of japanese actors in general - they are so natural and effortless.
Each episode was great but this one had one of the most fantastic finales I have seen.

This is one of those dramas I will watch over and over again. I really really hope that they make a special episode with the entire cast.
Now let me go and rave about this masterpiece to more people even though I think everybody around me now knows the name of this drama by heart. Some have even shown their loyalty by watching it and loving it.

What is it missing?
lack of layered characters which is what j-dramas excel at + predictable plot twist + no backstory given on the group and how they came to be

basically lacked the gut-wrenching or thrilling quality a lot of darker j dramas have

go look up famous directors from all over the world and majority of them list number of japanese movies and directors…
Thank you.
I have to apologize that my reply to your comment was rude and harsh. I was really annoyed by some of the horrible comments on the page so part of my irritation got directed to you.
Do check out some of the contemporary dramas.. old ones are the best but Japan still makes lots of good dramas!

It’s an interesting and binge-worthy Japanese series.I don’t usually watch Japanese series because sometimes…
go look up famous directors from all over the world and majority of them list number of japanese movies and directors as their favourites.. only on MDL you will see these kind of statements full of assumptions that they are not well-written and well-acted
if you don't like a show, its ok but seriously annoying to see these kind of statements from people who've probably only seen a few j dramas and movies and come to an assumption that they are bad. J cinema is widely acclaimed for their fantastic script-writing and natural acting.

these are some lists from various users with great recommendations.. your opinion will change after you see some of these dramas

Mediocre drama as expected from Netflix.
There are far better Japanese dramas esp those made by WOWOW

Very annoying to see so many comments from people who watch only few jdramas and movies and term them all as badly acted or written or lacking morals.. go watch more and educate yourself before making generalisations based on few bad dramas or movies. If you don't like Japanese cinema don't watch. Nobody is forcing you. Even Japan can't be bothered with gaining international fame that's why most of their content is fan-subbed.
Also if you do a quick google search you'll find that after Hollywood, Japanese directors like Kurosawa, Koreeda, Iwai Shuji, Ozu Yasujiro etc are some of the most widely acclaimed film-makers in the world, more than any other Asian country.

What a wonderful drama! I always love how Japanese dramas put in work into building the character's environment and research on the work they do. Thanks to J dramas I have learnt about so many occupations. Really loved the team and the leads were adorable! Great ending OST.
