I’m not sure who among the new actresses could have the same imposing aura as Shen Miao.
As for the ML, looks wise, potentially Li Hong Yi. His role in Blood of Youth is also quite similar to XJX temperament-wise. I really don’t know tbh

The novel is so fine! I’d really recommend the drama viewers to read it. Too much of the story is lost or changed, and not necessarily in the best way.

For me, at some point the ML & FL became the reasons to continue watching the drama 😢

Xiao Yao Yao was indeed the only one they had for sure, but in one of the last chapters, it did say that her delivery was quite easy, and it was either XJ or HY who wouldn’t mind having more kids. It’s a possibility only, nothing for certain.

Before HY was cured, XJ indeed didn’t mind having no kids if it wasn’t fated. But that had more to do with him not getting any concubines. If the kids were from HY, he certainly wanted them

Yan He with the Yan army was sent to one city where there was a plague outbreak, He Yan with the Fuyue army was sent to another, and Xiao Jue with the Xiao army was sent to a city very far from either Yan He or He Yan. There was another veteran general sent to another city, but that was only a small battle.

Yan He kept pushing the enemies, but protecting one of his soldiers, he got shot by a poisoned arrow in his arm. XJ’s best friend, Dr Lin (who was there to stop the plague) tried his best, but ultimately Yan died because he kept pushing himself too much. The battle took months, his wife was at home in the capital.

He Yan, after emerging victorious from her own battles, using very smart tactics due to having experience with fighting in the desert, was the first one to achieve victory. She managed to get the Fuyue army to accept her (since she wasn’t General Feihong, but a different reincarnated He Yan). She also had the least number of opponents in comparison to XJ & YH, but it was still a huge enemy army. Because Yan knew he was going to die, he asked for her help, knowing that she was closest and able to provide timely help. He left for her loads of info on what he observed about the enemy.

Meanwhile, XJ faced the biggest Wutuo army of all, and it took him quite a long while to repel the enemy, but he did do it. He wanted to help HY, but he had promised her before the war that they would not comprise their armies for the sake of each other. He returned to the capital, and there was no news of He Yan except that she was very badly wounded.

Ultimately, she returned with the Fuyue and Yan army, having successfully repelled the enemy. Her leg was badly wounded, and for a while she needed a cane, but did fully recover. It took 3 years for Dr Lin to cure her body, so that they could conceive. They had one daughter, Yao Yao. But it was hinted that they could have more. We only get a glimpse into 7 years in the future, so they had plenty of time to have more kids.

Yan He had a son, who loved to challenge XJ & HY to duels, just like his dad. XJ & HY were his teachers as well. His mum loved her husband and passed away 30 years later, without remarrying.

100% true. They even appeared at various award ceremonies together, and the hosts sometimes teased them about their chemistry off-screen, since on-screen couples usually keep way more space between them on the red carpet.

In the novel, the villains weren’t at all a backdrop for the lovers. The villains were well fleshed out and HRF had his own reasons for being unhappy with his life. Neither the plot nor the actor were able to show this unfortunately

In the novel, he was very manipulative, not meek at all. However, he was more self-aware in the novel.

I’m beyond frustrated! Chu Zhao was so white-washed up to the last ep, from how he truly was in the novel. He had zero say in anything to do with He Yan & Xiao Jue, after his master got convicted. He barely escaped himself. He even used his maid to achieve his goals, making her sell herself.

Our couple was decreed marriage by the emperor, there was none of that rubbish dramatics they put in the drama.

The plot lost so much of the novel’s finesse in the the way our couple dealt with the villains, which was so much better executed in the story vs drama.

I’m not happy!

The only good things about the last episodes, are the main couple scenes, Cheng Lei’s playful looks, and He Yan’s deciveness.

They share a universe. In the LOTFG novel, the author referenced to Shen Miao from the Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage. From the writing, it’s indicated that Shen Miao had lived a long time ago. Similarly, the Double is set in the same universe, but in a different point in time.

XJ’s father had multiple times addressed the Prime Minister’s excessive reach in the country’s affairs, of corruption, bribing, installing his cronies everywhere etc. all of those things are true of course, and XJ’s dad said it out loud multiple times in front of the whole court.

The Prime Minister’s daughter learnt how to be vindictive from her father, so you can imagine how much the PM hated being called out. He believed himself untouchable, so he devised a plan to get rid of XJ’s family prestige and backbone.

Yes, it’s both the writing but also the acting. The Double SML actor was much better at portraying a complex character
