The SML can’t act well. Initially it wasn’t as obvious, but the more the plot progresses, the more his poor acting skills betray him on the screen

She’s had her birthday in the novel, so that would make her 17. And he is 22 I think , if not 23. He was older than the original He Yan by 1-2 years as well

In the novel, he actually gets the message pretty quickly. If he does pester her, it’s only to create problems for Xiao Jue.

In the drama, they needlessly dragged this out

The emperor never finds out that He Yan is the Feihong General, he doesn’t yet know what she can do in battle, beyond assisting Xiao Jue in a few battles. It’s not good to look for evidence of a slight where there’s none. It’s not to say that there weren’t misogynistic officials, but at that point in time her brilliance wasn’t yet displayed without it being shadowed by XJ’s accomplishments.

She was a struggling student, and he was the best, having been taught by transcendent masters from a very young age (and we are talking 3-4 yo, perhaps even less) to mid-teenagehood. How does it hurt her backstory? That’s nonsense. It shows that she was willing to learn and did so unrelentingly.

It wasn’t wrong at all. The emperor has a soft spot for star-crossed lovers, so XJ used that angle fully knowing that he was more likely to be successful.

Finished it. In some places it was good, and certain characters grew on me, and in other scenes I felt like I was being forced to empathise with some of Han Li’s friends, despite the drama showing little meaningful bonds with them.

Toward the end, the drama felt rather disjointed and I was having a hard time trying to keep up with the timeline.

Way too much use of slow-motion movement. Instead of highlighting the magnificence of certain scenes, it became meaningless because of over usage.

Unfortunately, the chemistry with the FL remained lukewarm from start to finish. The bad guy grew on me a bit, but he still reminds me of a clown 😐

That little creature is useful in finding things for him, it could’ve easily been hidden on the mountain guy’s body imo
