From the trailer alone, I felt like there wasn’t enough FL/ML chemistry, hence my question. I guess I’ll give it a try anyway, as I really like the main actor’s acting

This guy is beyond annoying in the drama, though in the novel he’s just disgusting, at least she much more weary of him!

What’s the chemistry like between the FL & ML?

Biggest loss for me in the drama vs novel scene-wise:

- The naval battle in Jiyang
- Cloud Pavillion arcs in the past vs present in Jinling
- Rundu battle with all of its details (missing characters means quite a few awesome Rundu scenes will be missing by default)
- The Palace banquet, where He Yan reclaims her sword from He Rufei in the most bad-a*s way (not possible in this drama, as the sword is with Xiao Jue)

P.S. Novel Chu Zhao is so despicable, but at least he’s aware of it 😐

The others aren’t like that

- Greetings, Ninth Uncle
- The Dreamer in the Spring Boudoir
- The Noble Woman’s Guide On How to Tease One’s Husband
- Tyrannical Wang’s Beloved Wife (ultra-blackbellied ML, I actually cried for how miserable his life was)

He hasn’t touched the concubine, but certainly went to town with his lover. That’s pretty much the only reason I’m not reading the full novel. I can’t be bothered to put so much time into a story where the ML cheats his wife. I like ascension stories, but the harem aspect is off-putting. I’d rather have no romance at all

It’s a very different ML to the likes of XJ or XJX. I really liked it because both of the MCs start and follow their journeys in a way that differs from other novels. Initially I also thought it was so so, but after a while, it became much more enjoyable.

P.S. I’m generally not bothered by either the FL or ML having what some people might call red flag traits, so a lot of my enjoyment of this novel comes from appreciating the ML’s growth. If you enjoy “blackbellied” MLs, I have more recommendations

Indeed, I would’ve preferred the Season 1 & 2 format to just 36 short episodes.

Having now finished the novel, all I can say is, this drama really needed the production crew from Story of MingLan or Love Like the Galaxy with experience in adapting rebirth/transmigration material into dramas that are censorship compliant. They’d know how to include so many of the minor arcs & supporting characters from the novel, which are sadly missing in the current drama, and really affecting the plot. It goes without saying that the drama needs at least 50+ eps.

I agree, that’s why without the rebirth, the drama doesn’t make nearly as much sense

The novel has it perfectly written, with the suspense growing over many chapters, till it reaches a very satisfying conclusion

Her not being married and losing her child loses quite a bit from her character development journey & reasoning imo

Those girls suddenly turned fangirls was beyond cringe. Why can’t petty women exist in this drama, when they certainly existed in reality? Poor writing

I think the whole point about Excellent MLs is that they are one of a kind, which makes them to be so excellent to begin with, in addition to their training, war experience etc

How to put this… Malicious Empress ML Xie Jing Xing is pretty much considered the absolute favourite ML in all rebirth c-novels. If you like XJ, you’ll absolutely love XJX. That guy is as lethal as he is smart with an IDGAF for anybody but for my wife attitude. He’s perfection imo
