I hope I will not anger people here... but I feel he loves her a lot more than she loves him. I mean, look at…
In the novel it’s the same tbh, though she’s not as clueless about the SML. XJ doesn’t really care that he loves her more than she him, as long as they’re together for a lifetime
I know for this drama, with how they've already skipped over quite a few realistic issues regarding He Yan's cross…
That’s the flaw in the drama. In the novel, they’ve been students only for 1 year, when she was 14-15 and he a year or two older. Afterwards she got herself enlisted in the army, having nothing to do with his father or him.
By the time the two great generals of the empire reunited at court, HRF was already swapped back and He Yan was getting ready to get married. Given the age of 14-15, it’s normal for males to get bigger and have their voice broken afterwards.
In the novel, when she was blind, she hadn’t recognised his voice and neither he hers because almost 4-5 years had passed by. How would they remember…
I’ve said it before, rebirth plots take a lot of thinking to be correctly and logically adapted into dramas and be censorship-compliant. The Double is one of the few that did it so well. I still prefer the Double’s novel to the adaptation, but as a standalone, the drama is still very good.
I just realised!!! I’ve seen Cheng Lei in Queen of Attack and even then I thought him so fun and pretty good in that role! But it’s been years, how could I have forgotten?! His acting has improved even more since then till now.
About the reclaiming sword scene, when I saw your comment before watching ep 24-25, I thought it would have been…
The reason why that scene is so good in the novel is because Xiao Jue bets his own sword for He Rufei’s as stakes for He Yan’s duel with HRF. XJ even gives her his own sword. During the duel, she keeps taunting HRF that he can’t use Qinglang properly and that he’s not worthy of it. She makes him lose in front of the entire court.
HRF can’t take the humiliation and tries to kill her with a poisonous hidden weapon, but HY gets away and XJ interferes, flawlessly drawing his sword from the scabbard in HY’s hand and putting it to HRF’s worthless neck.
The scenes that follow are even more amazing, as loads of lies and deception are unravelled by HY & XJ.
To be honest, I find them really good together as team members rather than lovers. The good thing is : we see…
I see I see, thanks.
From the trailer alone, I felt like there wasn’t enough FL/ML chemistry, hence my question. I guess I’ll give it a try anyway, as I really like the main actor’s acting
Biggest loss for me in the drama vs novel scene-wise:
- The naval battle in Jiyang - Cloud Pavillion arcs in the past vs present in Jinling - Rundu battle with all of its details (missing characters means quite a few awesome Rundu scenes will be missing by default) - The Palace banquet, where He Yan reclaims her sword from He Rufei in the most bad-a*s way (not possible in this drama, as the sword is with Xiao Jue)
P.S. Novel Chu Zhao is so despicable, but at least he’s aware of it 😐

AOS is just so good! I even wrote a fanfic for it 🥲
Jang Uk in AOS2 was perfection!
