As a person working in Finance, who studied Business and Financial Maths, everything in this drama made loads of sense to me. It’s a pity we didn’t get to see how he could’ve managed the 2007-2008 financial crash. I bet he would’ve shorted the housing market in US and made himself a billionaire on a world wide scale. I was surprised he didn’t invest in Google, but apparently he did in the Webnovel hehe
I really enjoyed the drama, but what a horrible ending. Not in the execution but for the ML. All of his feelings and experiences with other people basically turned to ash, as he couldn’t continue most of those relationships without being Jin DoJun himself, especially the one with his family and his fiancé. It was interesting that Secretary Ha recognised him, and he was basically the only one to do so. But yeah… I feel really sorry for him.
Such a long conversation you guys had....You both have made good points but the only thing I would say is that…
I absolutely agree that an extra two episodes could’ve solved the issue of not getting enough time for the audience to come to terms with what’s happening. Endings which are not perfectly and carefully done usually tend to be even more disappointing than issues with the plot itself.
That’s why he kept asking himself why he was getting the same feelings with BoYeon as with MaDeok. Her coldness…
I disagree, and I think what needed mentioning I already have. If your perception of things precludes you from seeing it as I do, there’s nothing to be done. I like dramas where I need to work things out on my own based of minimal and subtle acting, but it’s not for everybody :)
About her choosing to give up her body to save Daeho I again have to disagree according to my English subs on…
Okay, in Korean they say she chose to give up her body by taking his hand the exact same way when he died. She “chose” to remember that moment. Multiple times she implied that it’ll be her choice to see it. Otherwise how would she know that it’s her last moment or not. OG BY is aware of everything Naksu did and said. It’s obvious what happened. Perhaps just rewatch the episode to see for yourself.
P.S. It’s not that Naksu could choose not to leave BY’s body, it’s more about the timing of it and how she wanted to do it. Perhaps not as important to you, but it certainly is to me
That’s why he kept asking himself why he was getting the same feelings with BoYeon as with MaDeok. Her coldness…
I think you need to rewatch the last few minutes of ep 9, and see that after kissing her eyes, he also kisses her lips very passionately at that, implying I believe that they actually consummated their relationship at last.
In first 12 min of ep 10, they show the couple happy while looking at the tree, on top of it, him happily carrying her by the river, then chasing each other by the chestnut tree. I think you’re missing out some important scenes which show just how much they loved each other.
Before she leaves her body, he literally says that “we chose to love each other, be the light for each other when we most needed it”.
I really think you need to rewatch the last 3 episodes. In that prison world in ep 8, they were both longing to be with each other, they literally say so, but they have to choose their duty instead. Do you really expect them to be happy when they’ve made such a choice with hundreds of lives on the line? Their eyes are full of tears they cannot afford to shed.
You can’t expect a scene to give you everything on a platter, their true feelings were portrayed in a more subtle way because they’re trying their best to not give into their desire.
About her choosing to give up her body to save Daeho I again have to disagree according to my English subs on…
I completely disagree. In ep 10, after he sees the future, she also understands that OG BoYeon’s/Seol Ran’s powers are needed to help him, and she prematurely gave up her body to BY. Seol Ran even specifically says that Naksu is to be returned for the light saved the world, and it needs its shadow, when she awakens Naksu after the threat is gone.
When OG BY/SR use the constellation to help defeat the fire bird, there are 7 stars + the King’s Star. DangGu says that there are only 6 people (OG BY/SR, Crown Prince, Seo Yul, Cho Yeon, DangGu, DG’s right hand man), however he is told that there is one more person (Naksu) who was always by JW’s side. So yes, Naksu did help save the world.
P.S. You seem to have multiple replies, I think it’s some kind of error
That’s why he kept asking himself why he was getting the same feelings with BoYeon as with MaDeok. Her coldness…
In episode 9, when Jin Mu asks Jang Wook if he came to kill him for revenge, JW says: “Why would I do something so useless?! I left behind the world I most desired, longed and pined for!” That’s the prison created by Jin Seol Ran (aka OG Priestess) where BoYeon/Naksu was after he found out who she was but couldn’t recognise as he had to choose between his desire and duty.
In ep 10, they get married, did you not see how he shined with love when looking at her? Of course he was also in pain knowing she would disappear sooner or later, but I think that was to be expected. By telling JW that he needed to take her life away, Naksu absolved JW of making the super hard decision whether to save her soul using his powers or not.
P.S. JW questioning himself about his feelings for BoYeon/Naksu being the same for MaDeok/Naksu were done mostly via his acting, not as much via words, but he did say that he kept confusing BY with MD, and she kept asking him if her words were confusing him every time he looked at her as if trying to read her soul.
Potential spoilers, but not really. Just my ramblings…
I keep seeing people say that Jang Wook and Naksu/BoYeon’s feelings suddenly changed in ep 8 and it was like he didn’t love her anymore, or it was colder etc. I say that’s not true at all.
I think what we must remember is that JW loved Naksu’s soul. Not her face, not her fighting/powers, not her knowledge etc. He loved her spirit, and his heart recognised her much faster than his mind.
Strip away the pain and blood from OG Naksu’s life, and you get an innocent little girl Cho Young who should have grown into a lovely young lady exactly like BoYeon is portrayed before she regained Naksu’s memories.
Most likely Cho Young would’ve been married to Jang Wook because their fathers were best friends and of quite similar social standing. But their destiny took a different turn, it was wrought with tragedy, and the OG BoYeon/OG priestess chose them to carry the weight of the world’s fate.
He had to fall in love with MaDeok/ as he was getting stronger, be able to understand the heart of the OG Seo Master (when he read the letter and then sacrificed his powers), to be able to die for her, and get reborn. Naksu, who had already chosen JW’s life over her own power, ended up killing him anyway via manipulation. She then kept her promise by jumping off that cliff: If she dies, he dies. If he dies, she dies.
As crazy as that sounds, OG BoYeon’s plan was followed to the T with JW’s resurrection and Naksu reverting to her Cho Yeong self.
JW fell in love with the same soul once more. It had a different packaging, but the same flavour. That’s why he kept asking himself why he was getting the same feelings with BoYeon as with MaDeok. Her coldness once made him stronger and he fell in love with her like that. Now her warmth thawed his ice-cold heart, regaining his will to live and care for the world, as he fell in love with a different facet of the same soul.
In ep 8, when she realises who she is, her coldness towards him wasn’t because she loved him less, if anything she loved him more. Since Naksu knew she would disappear, she couldn’t compromise the body of OG BoYeon (to whom she knew she’d have to give up the body) and she also couldn’t see JW tortured choosing between saving her soul or letting her go once more. Just like Master Lee told Seo Yul, that would be pure agony for JW.
Once JW realises the truth, it’s not that he loves her less, but he understands that his duty to the world was heavily compromised by Naksu being a soul shifter and one way or another, he would have to betray his heart.
Her telling him to come take her life away was the reason and excuse they had to be together once more even if for a bit of time. In those few moments of happiness they had, their love for each other was as true as it gets, because he didn’t have to be split between loving MaDeok and BoYeon, and she was glad to be with him until her soul dispersed. If their love felt heavier, it was only because it was now entirely connected to the fate of the world, which we knew was doomed, instead of it being just about the two of them.
Her sacrifice in giving up BY’s body and JW’s personal choice to let her go to help save Daeho is what ultimately convinced OG BoYeon/OG priestess to let Cho Yeong‘s soul with all her memories as Naksu, MaDeok, and BoYeon be able to take over BoYeon’s body once more.
Their relationship afterwards is a mix of all of their prior relationships + their new responsibilities. Neither loved each other less, they simply loved and accepted all aspects of each other, be it when teasing, being affectionate, or protecting each other etc. There simply was no need for lovey-dovey scenes at that point. We also certainly know they were trying to have a daughter hehe
P.S. I’ve been married for 4 years now, and can add that while we are lovey dovey quite often, more often than not we show our love through teasing each other and our support for each other at all times. The main CP seems to resemble us.
We love with our soul, and the heart recognises that which the mind is sometimes incapable or simply too slow to comprehend. Naksu/MaDeok/Cho Young/BoYeon & Jang Wook have certainly shown us that their love was meant to create and protect. I loved what Master Lee said about the two of them:
“He’s the light protecting the world, and she’s the shadow who protects him from the darkness around him.”
I know some people find the soul changes within BuYeon’s body quite confusing, but I understood them perfectly clear. The whole idea of Naksu being chosen by the priestess (both in her reincarnation form as BuYeon and initial one as the first Jin priestess) to be absolutely brilliant.
I was initially sceptical about it, but the use of the new actress helped show how Cho Young (Naksu) would’ve been like without all the heartbreak & tragedy of her life up to her entering BuYeon’s body. The actress did a great job showcasing an innocence of mind and heart, but also remarkable depth.
With her getting her memories back as Naksu, she became truly wise and any idea of the selfishness she had once possessed was entirely thrown away. The fact that she hadn’t killed Jin Mu in cold blood when she had the chance speaks volumes about her character growth.
Jang Wook was even more awesome in this season than I could’ve imagined him. The actor really knows how to portray a man whose heart is in agony but also one that continues to hope. His character growth is perhaps my most favourite one, from the previous drama to this one, he’s only grown to become more powerful, and even more mindful of the responsibility that comes with such power. His wisdom and ability to sacrifice is truly amazing.
This couple has shown an immense amount of perseverance to be true to each other but also true to their duties and the world around them.
Any actor is replaceable. To me JSM was not that perfect. Nobody is. The romance between JSM and LJW was so dry…
Having now finished the drama, I can say the GYJ has certainly grown on me and I was happy to see her and Wook together. Their kisses were certainly very hot.
What do you mean replace? GYJ is the OG Naksu actress. JSM's role was always meant to be temporary.
Yes, after watching ep 2, the mechanics of Naksu coming back to life makes a bit more more sense. It’s just a pity their script didn’t involve using JSM, given the established relationship & chemistry between characters, but also between character and viewers.
GYJ is certainly growing on me, but it’s hard to accept another FL after binge-watching 20 eps with JSM & LJW and loving them so much.
The start was pretty interesting, but unfortunately by the 8th episode, I lost interest, which is a pity. I wouldn’t call it bad, but wouldn’t call it amazing either tbh. It’s okay I guess
