Seems underrated on MDL. Beautiful and intelligent but definitely not for everyone. If you don't like slow development, don't bother as this show takes a little while to develop as the director REALLY tries to focus on the feelings of characters through many intimate shots and a lot of attention paid to cinematography and camerawork. There is too much of it in the first two eps perhaps but it later becomes more balanced and the story picks up very soon. Otherwise develops as a genuine RomeoXJuliet story. Kim Ok Bin is a revelation to me. Other characters are very strong too. Great cast with some authenthic acting. If you're expecting another TPM, you better find another drama. This is unlike TPM. I find it superior to TPM in everything. Except they really overdid it at first with camerawork and some music choices may be surprising at first but later they kind of fit. Good story.

I took a peek at the ending because I couldn't stop my curiosity. I knew it was a Romeo and Juliet story so the ending doesn't surprise me. I think it's effective how they all "disappeared" from screen one by one- it shows that this all is but one event in history and those people are gone forever. I still need to see what hapened in between. That guy who killed Yun Choon seemd very annoying. I know it's the guy who recommends the princess as a recruit in episode 11 and I guess he is just using her. Grrr, hate him already and the King does very limited since his power gets curtailed. What a bunch of ridiculous people. The General has very expressive eyes though. I;ll continue watching tomorrow, it;s more comfortable now that I peeked the ending scene, thugh I could predict it happening. I kind of like that she accompanies into death. I look forward to seeing eps 12-20.

But the General sure has committed a lot of atrocoties towards the king and the princess! Ther last two episodes (where he killed the king just so and then BURNED him) were so heartbreaking! Also, the new king...he had polayed on his ambition and manipulated him. Even so, the drama did a good job of not passing judgments and showing instead that this is about politics and two different modes of thinking. The general is an obsessed warrior, the king was an enlighted person more, or so it seems. Two clashing ways....and now he;s trying to use his son to locate the Princess. I still wonder why his mother told UTW character the General is a good man. His actions undermine those words...but it is clear that he keeps her in his memory and I believe he is noit evil, just obsessed. So I am far from passing judgments but the last two eps were really heartbreaking.

:D yup Nankyoku is an inspirational jdrama well worth the watch, very touching. I hope you'll like it. knife and flower is a powerful drama. There are some terrible things being done in the name of political ideas and ambition, but I still don;t think the drama passes any judgments though the last two episodes were very strongly inclined but it;s up to the viewer to decide ultimately. It;s heartbreaking what I just saw.

I have Vigilantes in my PTW...I have to watch it finally lol. hahah I heard of Startling, apparently it;s one of the better chinese dramas out there AAAND there is some modern sequel in the works as well. I think they say Startling is quite haunting because of all the emotions. I will watch it one day too, but I keep postponing it because it's sad lol Though I"m watching noiw a rather heavy korean saeguk anyway.

Yes because MOST popular dramas are like that because it;s what sells apparently. So a couple of recommendations? Try watching Tonbi as well, it's a very endearing family story. And Mother. And Queen's Classroom. And Legal High. Have you seen any of Kimura Takuya dramas? They tend to be very good. The japanese dramas overall are better done than korean because they are produced BEFORE airing. Kdramas are produced as they are aired in direct response to rating. From korean dramas, have you seen king of dramas?

Episode 8 wasa really heartbreaking and it;s become obvious to me that the conflict arose from the General being blinded. It's about conflict on how rule and implement policies especially foreign policies. The King seems to be pro-talks, the General only knows the way of the sword. He thinks the sword is the way to win respect. Hence the conflict. Sad really. But I"m glad the drama doesn;t pass judgments. It doesn;t tell us to hate the General because of his opiunions, unlike in several other saegukls where we have say Kim Yushin as a hero for one nation but it;s only another drama that shows him as the villain. This one incorporates and gives validity to both sides. I like it. Very sad that it's so underrated.

it;s pretty good if you have the patience for it because there are a lot of pauses and silences between characters and the story develops rather slowly. But the story is quite good.

Well Bratty princess has some redeeming moments but it can also appear draggy. I liked it because the main lead played by jang na ra was actually vivacious and quite cool. She was really a gangster girl lol. Well, i haven;t seen many Wuxia either. I only saw Legend of Condor Heroes 2008 version which I thought was actually pretty good for me who hasn;t watched any other wuxia aside from crouching tiger hidden dragon and a couple of others such films. Also jumong, while korean, has enough martial arts, so maybe that could also be something to see.

of the sword. I do sympathise with his son since he is really being forced to be torn between loyalty to his blood and loyalty to his love and in between he has his own ideas and he knows his father is wrong. But his father seems really blinded by his own belief in being right. Well, that;s why people like him shouldn;t hold positions of power since. While being good people they lose sight of what is right and end up doing the wrong things. so, Cheerful, I disagree that the General is evil, he is just lost and erroneous in hus judgment and he won't admit it because of his pride.

I still don;t think the General is evil and the drama doesn't pass judgments in simplistic manner. I think he cares deeply for his son but as a man of action just doesn;t understand any other way but the way of the sword. He is not evil per se. The drama just shows us how differing perspectives on how politics should be handled lead to internal conflict. I think the General believes he is right because he wants the good of the country and is afraid the King may fall in his judgment. I wouldn;t call the General evil. No one in this drama is evil, both sides are given validity and credibility and I love the director for not passing clear-cut judgment and telling us that oh we should hate this guy because. No. That's not what the drama does. Instead, it highlights the tragedy of thise who get caught up in the fate dictated by wrong decisions of people like General who only know how the way

Hi NinaJade :) I've been away from dramas for a loooong looong while. I ended uo going for the popular dramas upon return- Master's Sun I mean. I also watched Soratobu Kouhoshitsu. Now I"m watching Sword and Flower and wow it's pretty good for me, right up my style. I like a good mix and this is from the same creator from the Chaser and I trust your choices a lot of the times because your choices tend to fall on a genre that I know less about bit am hapopy to discover. It's always a pleasure to talk to you and I like your lists on the profile :) Are you going to watch the new Kimutaku drama?

anoi ona chyba do tej pory niewiele miala rol dramowych, to pierwszy raz kiedy ja ogladam i naprawde robi wrazenie podobne do Han Hye Jin w Jumongu i innych dramach historycznych. Han hye Jin lubo grac dobre postacie kobiece, dlatego ja lubie. I tutaj Kim Ok Bin Silna postac, zrownowazona, rozsadna, fajna z niej "Julia", przy tym jest sympatyczna.

lol. Well this one seems like a good idea to take time with. What about Brodal Mask and The Princess Man? I think it would be nice to watch TPM and Sword and Knife in order to compare because both have a romeo Julietlike story, except the endings are going to be different and the two represent for me different type of saeguks. If you find yourself liking Sword and Flower more, then I'd recommend also Jumong, Kingdom of the Winds, queen Seon Duk,. also Jewel in the Palace I think is worth watching regardless of whuch saeguk trend will be more apealing to you because it's a story of a woman who lived and acted with great courage, dignity and honesty. But at the same it is full of castle shceming, so you can expect a lot of bi***es Ohhh in the comedic vein, I think My Bratty Princess is quite likeable even if it gets draggy. I will love to hear yourt thoughts on the intense saeguks :D
