I haven't cried this much from a drama since one liter of tears. It was so good and sad at the same time. One of the quotes from the drama is something like, "Life is like a rope intertwined with happiness and sorrow." It's true for life and this show. Every episode has it's cheerful moments and it's painful moments. This drama really came at the right time with so many problems piling up on me. It somehow makes me feel better to see people going through the good and bad times learning to live in the moment and endure the grief. The actors did a superb job. There were so many screenshots that I wanted to take, but they would have been spoilers so I refrained. I hope that you will watch the drama so that you can see them for yourself.

This movie had a simple story, but it's display of parental-children affection left me with many emotions. Neither…
I agree! I just finished watching it, and I thought that it was really good. At first I was just watching it for Maki, but then I started to enjoy the simple peaceful story, and finally in the end it really touched me. I wasn't expecting much, but I really enjoyed it!

That's awesome that you got to see his statue! I'm glad that you're enjoying the series too. I was amazed at how ambitious they all were.

Wow! That's really crazy. I can't believe him and other people walked or ran that far all the time it's insane. That's really cool that you got to visit there before you left. What do you mean that you passed out for days? That you passed out everyday or that you slept for four days? And are you watching this already thinking about it?

First of all, I was wrong to say that this book wouldn't make a good movie because it is mostly dialogue/inner dialogue. Now that I've seen how long this movie is and how much stuff they left out, I realized that there is definitely enough activity to make it a movie. This movie should have been 45 minutes longer. They left out so much important stuff that it completely ruined the movie. It's way to rushed, and because they were rushing it, they completely ruined the parts with Naoko in it (which is a major part to ruin). They completely ruined Reiko's character too. The time they spent at the sanatorium was actually a really pleasant time in the book, but they turned it into just a weird insane bit. If I only saw the movie I would wonder why he ever loved Naoko, because in the movie she's just insane, but in the book she's pleasant with her moments of crying/depression. Her most insane moments mostly happen when Watanabe isn't around. In the movie, the visuals, music, and acting were all really great, especially the visuals. They were incredible. That was the only good part (putting some visuals onto the scenes of the book). It could have been a masterpiece of a movie if they would just let me fix it, and by fix it I mean to add 45 minutes of the important character interactions that they left out. Those interactions is what make us all love and know the characters rather than this cliffnote version we got. The director Tran Anh Hung did an amazing job with the visuals, but he should have let me write the screenplay, or at least let the author of the book, Haruki Murakami, do it.

yes, there were things that they could have done, but that's real life. People make bad decisions and often put off doing the right thing for years, especially when it comes to communicating with the people closest to us about hard topics. That's why I found it so real/good/interesting.

Legit crying on the last ep. Saigo was a great man. I wish all politicians and more people were like him. He was truly honorable. If I ever go to Japan, I will visit his grave and pay my respects. Thank you for caring for the poor and the weak, Saigo! Chesuto! Kibare!
