I never watched the anime. I thought the first movie had some good and bad points about it. I really like the fantasy world mixed with the Japanese. I don't understand why some people say that the visual effects were bad. IMO they were good. I liked this one. I'll probably watch the 3rd one.
Had to take a peek at this list to see if the classics are still your absolute faves and I see that yourname sake…
I haven't updated this list since 2016. I'm sure I could add 100 more favorites now. But yes, all of these dramas still hold a special place in my heart, especially Hana Kimi and Love Shuffle.
I finally finished this one. I started it because I wanted to know about this era, but I also started it at a bad time. I almost dropped it several times, but in the end, I kept going with it at a slow pace until recently. One of the big things that draws me to these taiga dramas is the historical aesthetic. This drama is lacking in that since the Japan wasn't as elegant in the 12th century as it is in later centuries. All of that being said, it was a pretty good drama with lots of very dramatic moments. It is pretty amazing how far the protagonist came from the first half of the drama to the second half of the drama. The beginning may be a little slow, but they're are lots of scenes throughout the drama that really make you feel something. Every taiga drama is loaded with tragedy and this one is no different, but it is worth it to see the human drama unfold and also to see the rich history of Japan. This taiga definitely has that as it's substance. Overall, I wouldn't say it's my favorite taiga, but it is definitely worth watching if you are curious about that era or these figures.
