there is no touch of romance between first leads, they are only sharing the same pain of losing their relatives…
SPOILERS ABOVE!! For anyone coming here with the same question, note that the comment above spoils more than that ^^; But in answer, no. There is zero romance between the leads.
Started it because of Cha Eun Woo. I wanted to see what his acting would be like.
Oh it was amazing. But at what cost? xD The way every episode had me sobbing is straight-up criminal. This was with no doubt a good watch but now I have A LOT of emotional patching up to do. Note: I love the way this had me disagreeing with characters while sympathising with where they were coming from. A few took actions that would make me shout at the screen and yet I was always scared of hating them. Instead, even as they did these things, I clung to the hope that they'd find a better path that would heal some of their own hurt.
The amount of pure FUN I had is unlike any other I've felt with a show in a long time.
Timing was key. It's the epitome of the highschool love triangle trope that got old a decade before its release x the use of boy-bands which also feels reminiscent of what was popular in a different era. So I had no reason to watch this and assumed it would always be that way. Yet suddenly, the familiarity of these things was EXACTLY what I wanted. And it ACED them!
From beginning to end, I was giddy! With all its quirks, True Beauty teleported me back in time to all that excitement I felt while reading shoujo stories as a kid. And yet more importantly, its charm was actually so much brighter. It's doing almost exactly the same thing. But one small touch made the best difference - ๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐๐ต๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ ๐บ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด. They were genuine and proven so by their actions time and time again: The three of them were lovable as individuals in their overall attitude toward others and life; Joo Kyung was steadfast in her feelings for a boy who deserved it because he truly treated her well; and when painful misunderstandings were cleared away, nothing - not even a girl - could come between Soo Ho and Seo Joon's childish yet caring bond.
Friendship and romance shone equally, filled with sincerity. And for that I'll likely always be attached to True Beauty.
rewatching and anyone's getting second lead syndrome isn't thinking straight just because he has good looks doesn't…
I went into this drama thinking I'd have terrible second-lead syndrome thanks to edits of Seo Joon's scenes ... only to never once feel that way. The drama did really well.
It's not even necessarily about how the relationships began. But just how they were overall.
I get it when it happens in a series where the main lead is mean to the girl and viewers can clearly see that she enjoys her time with the second lead in a way she doesn't with the main one. That's how the trope usually goes. This drama is NOT that. Soo Ho treats Joo Kyung well from early on and she has plenty fun with him. At the same time, she never once looks at Seo Joon romantically.
I think people wanted Seo Joon to be endgame because they themselves liked him more. They aren't thinking about what the characters want.
Seo Joon IS lovable and absolutely deserves to be happy. Romantically, that's for a future him we don't have to see. He still gets his happy ending within the drama through different facets. Not to mention, one of the beauties of this show was the friendship - which was thanks in part to how Seo Joon and Soo Ho maneuvered with their relationship after falling in love with the same girl.
I wanted to like it. But it's time for me to drop this ;-; I watched 3 eps. That's a fairer go than I usually give.
The character personalities and the premise as they've been introduced give the impression that it will build into something cool. But so far, it's all been flat. I'm unconcerned by the stakes. I'm already waiting for characters to have more dimension and that impatience proves I'm bored with what's currently there. So far it hasn't focused on different ways characters bounce off of others enough which is fine if the show wasn't aiming to delve into strong relationships of any kind this early on; it just means that even in this I have nothing to latch on to to keep me patient for other things. I don't hate anything. I'm just not hooked at all either.
Was not invested in the plot. However, I LOVED the romance.
- 'Easy best friend' dynamic ใ คใ คMutually quick to recognise they want to be friends ใ คใ คIt's never about the physical but about the fun, smiles and time. - Guy who's a bit flirty and honest about his interest without being pushy - Where they conflict but healthily try to compromise for one another - Within a story that's bigger than the romance itself
Episode 9-11 were really annoying. The way the main two characters behaved was too over the top for what was initially presented of them as individuals and their relationship. Not to mention, some of their decisions were stupid. But I had a lot of fun during the other nine episodes, episode 12 partially included.
I keep going back to watch edits of this on youtube. Maybe it's because I rarely watch dramas entirely centered around the bromance as far as relationships are concerned, but I'm missing these characters more than I usually do with dramas.
Starting this drama at 11pm was a BAD idea. It's 7:16 in the morning now and I just finished the last episode.
I'm a sucker for non-linear storytelling and guardian/guardee relationships. This delivered.
My mind is thinking more about an upcoming s2 than how I probably won't be a functioning version of myself for the rest of today. Mind you, I barely function on a NORMAL day.
It's been my favourite manga series for so long but admittingly, I don't think it's the type of thing that should have been made into a live action. Not because of the "teacher/student" premise. It's because the story has SUCH a wacky way of presenting itself that without being heavily toned down, it would feel strange with real people.
That said, I'm overjoyed this exists. MAYBE this means we'll finally get an English license for the manga and God knows how long I've been waiting for that xD So here's to hoping. There's also this wonderful bonus; the intro and outro are such a delight. Regardless of medium, those can always be enjoyed as is. And these two - which are so fun to watch - capture the feel of the series well.
I get it's fun to freely talk about stories with others but .... ^^;
Just please be considerate. Especially with mysteries and thrillers.
You spoiled part of the mystery/thrill here.
