I've read the novel. The show is definitely gayer than the novel and is super clever about it. In the drama, there…
I haven’t actually read the original novel for this drama. But other Chinese BL novels I’ve read that I saw made into dramas with “bromance” instead, I was very disappointed! The novels were so good, but were watered down and changed for tv once the censorship took place. Any ones I read now, after the ban, would rather China just leave alone and not make into tv or movies. They will just ruin it.
I will refuse to watch any Chinese dramas that take an original novel that was a BL novel and turn it into, at best, a Bromance. It’s hypocritical and stupid and I’m not going to give them my money by watching it. I’m sick and tired of the bans that China keeps placing on their entertainment (books, movies, tv). Why even make a TV show or a movie based on a gay novel if you were going to change it to be a Bromance? No offense for your review, because you seem very enthusiastic about it, but I just can’t support it. I also would not watch “advance bravely” because they changed that awesome awesome novel into a stupid Bromance and completely ruined it. And don’t even get me started on how “addicted” the show could not be finished because the ban was put in place while they were filming the first half of the novel. I’m not completely given up on Chinese dramas… But pretty soon they are going to make it so there aren’t any that I want to watch anyway. From banning time travel to banning any hints of a gay relationship, to even banning palace historical‘s?! I’m not gonna watch Chinese propaganda movies and tv, thank you very much.
Inquiring minds want to know: 1. Who’s the top? Maybe both? Cause Tang Yi seemed to be the one getting kissed most of the time! 2. Who is the character that the doctor friend was taking to in FaceTime? It wasn't Andy (the bar friend). It seems like they were trying to set up a future storyline with him…? 3. Why did Tang Yi’s dad kill himself?!? Wasn’t the fact that he found his son a reason to live? 4. Anyone know if this is a novel translated in english?
They have an emotional goodbye in front of a “prison or detention center” containing: i love you, will wait…
I don't think so. But in a way they did conclude it well because Afei said he would wait for Tang Yi no matter how long he may be in jail. Plus he’s already living with him, ready for him to come home ;)
