If what is reported is correct, then Fan Bing Bing is, perhaps, lucky that the matter will be resolved through paying back the tax owed, fines and penalties. Although authorities throughout the world treat tax evasion seriously, that is not necessarily the thought of the average person. Studies have shown that the average person generally puts tax evasion way down the serious crimes list (almost at the bottom).
The issue in all this for me though is the public apology. The style of the apology, the way it is written and how it is announced to the world, appears to be a political and controlling message, as much as anything. Yes, there should be an apology. It’s a matter of what is appropriate. Public figures have that additional level of responsibility, or burden, if you will.
The other disquieting issue in this whole matter was her arrest and subsequent treatment including the bag over her head and lack of communication for three months. In my part of the world, this matter would have been treated very publicly. Not only that, if such an issue had gone to trial, a jury would be used to make a determination on the matter.
I can only imagine how traumatic the whole situation has been for her, her fiancé and her brother. It is not the nicest way to learn from your mistakes. However, she can rise from the ashes so to speak, including dealing with the public shame, but at the end of the day, she will be able to get on with her life. Plenty of other public figures around the world have done so (including resurrecting their careers). It will be interesting to see if her “social credit system” rating will be affected once this is introduced in China.
This show, as Knavery points out, is one of the better things to come out of Hong Kong in rent times. It is a very watchable show. Our lead pair were fanatastic. The cases were interesting , and the focus on good and ethical behaviour was well embedded throughout. We all deserve a second chance :)
A big thumbs up from me. Our leads did a wonderful job in this movie. I found myself totally engrossed in their story. I liked how they grew together in the face of adversity and how they tackled each challenge as it came along.
Overall 8.0Story 8.0Acting/Cast 9.0Music 4.5Rewatch Value 7.0When I started to watch this drama, things were going…
Some great observations here. I like very much how they have approached 100 Days. To me it’s an engaging story. The pace is set the way it is so that you get to see the other side of how the people live. Also, I think you get time to appreciate how the main couple come to care for, and love, one another.
I thought this started well and then descended into something that went off track. The premise was a great idea and the acting was good. I’m not really sure I agree with where Survival Wedding ended up given how things unfolded and the nature of some of the characters.
I thought the first four episodes were absolutely terrific. Nemesis, the name in the series title is taken from one of the Miss Marple books, but is not the story itself. The episodes so far have the flavour and the bits and pieces found within the various Miss Marple stories and characters. The casting is spot on. I like the fact that Miss Ma is a younger version of Miss Marple. Even the mood or ambience of the village and the characters within are as they should be.
I even read somewhere there might be two seasons! Yes, I’m an Agatha Christie fan.
Well, I really enjoyed episode 4. It was genuinely funny in some parts and overall a nice depiction of the lead pair’s relationship. It was like a totally different show. I like Yeong Jae as a character. However, Joon Yeong for me is little bit flat or underwhelming (however, there are glimpses of a really good character there), And, I like the sister. So, I will keep going for now.
Thank you for such a great list. As a result I have now blown out my planned to watch list after downsizing it recently :) Currently watching from your list:
Terius Where Stars Land (Fox Bride Star) The Beauty Inside The Third Charm
Why does this drama's rating on MDL keep dropping? D: 8.3? But the first two episodes were gold TT... Imo a better…
It’s funny. I found the first two episodes of TTC were 50/50 for me. However, ep 3 is much better. For me, TBI and WSL are so much better. Then there is Terius (great fun) and Devilish Joy (delightful). So, I guess it just comes down to personal taste with some shows.
Have recently completed 2 eps and it was superb..The show really picks up in Ep 2 as So Ji Sub becomes the Kids…
You are on the money with the neighbourhood group re the next lot of episodes. The twins are great and he continues to find really good ways to deal with them. He treats them with kindness and respect.
I think you've got the order wrong there. I like PTS, CSH is like 'a villain in the making' and not so sure about…
For me, YSY continues to be far from convincing as a character. I liked his flashback sequence though. As for CSH, I can see what you are saying re his potential as a villain in the making - that could be quite intriguing. In short, I like the female cast and characters, but not the male counterparts so much. I really enjoy medical dramas, but I’m not enjoying the story at this point re TLOH.
If it wasn’t for ClaudiaKdramaFan’s ongoing enthusiastic comments, I wouldn’t have looked at Devilish Joy because the synopsis doesn’t do this wonderful drama justice. At the end of episode ten, all I can say is what a great lead couple, the second leads are charming together and the story is definitely one you just go with it.
I found after such a good cliff hanger at the end of episode 4, that episodes 5 & 6 were a bit up and down for me. I like Soo Yeon as a character. However, I’m not so sure about Tae Soo and Dr Choi. I guess I will need to watching :-)
I think it is very good. Not only that, this is so much better than the last two things Hyun Jin was in. She was…
She is one of the few actors (of any country) that has that “instant presence” and has an excellent range of skills as well. I think I gave away Temperature of Love around the halfway mark. I really wanted it to be so much better than what it was.
