Speaking of Black; I absolutely loved the plotline progression and development. But then they gave us THAT ending. It was as though it was written by an entirely different person and I hated it with mad vengeance!
I agree with most of the things you wrote, especially about the evil SFL. Especially those highly delusional, narcissistic ones with no sense of shame or honor.
I love it when an actor/actress is given a wide range of character development (Song Seung Heon's character(s) in Black) or if their characters are written in layers that get peeled away as the story progresses (various characters in Life)
I'm not a believer in love at first sight, so for me, I like for the romance to be given time to build up and under believable circumstances (Miss Hammurabi, Chicago Typewriter, Healer)
What I hate are all the things that go in opposition of what I love/like. But I think I might add that I have a love-hate relationship with a drama where the second male lead's character is written better than that of the actual ML. Rooting for the SML but knowing he'll be left to bite the dust in the end is always a painful experience, heh heh. Same applies for their female counterpart. (Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Hwarang, Doctor Stranger)
Loved the article. And yeah, Park Hyung Sik is just the perfect boyfriend in Strong Woman Do Bong Soon!
This is quickly turning out to be one of my favorite dramas of 2018. I haven't been this invested in a storyline…
I just love how the show feeds us with only fragments of information at a time, much similar to Black. And they know just where and when to hit us right in the guts, with their revelations. It just makes us crave for more.
I just love how REAL this drama is. Captures human imperfections quite perfectly. Your favorite characters have each their own weaknesses and struggles. You grow to love or at least form a grudging respect for characters you at first hated. So nothing came in complete blacks or whites, and so it is just as how we all are, in life. The acting is just excellent, overall. Pay attention to the emotional nuances on their faces. Listen to the story and read behind the lines. Don't expect action. Don't expect pace. I hope many have found or will find this journey worth their while.
I haven't really watched that drama yet so couldn't post anything about that
His portrayal of a (humanoid?) is truly endearing. His "human" counterpart had me screaming for bloody murder. That's how effective his acting had been. You might like to give it a try.
You mean, have a better ending. Plot-wise, I think Black had been pretty decent; had me on the edge of my seat all week long waiting for the latest episodes. But yeah, the ending could be made much, much better.
Well, the irony behind a person saying how something is overrated is precisely because that person is in the minority of the opinion poll in the first place. Ratings are decided by the majority, so when the minority says it's overrated... well... that's just stating the obvious, isn't it? Sorry for my quasi-existentialism mode of response. You may just ignore me.
The future looks bright for Seo Kang Joon. Both characters well portrayed. So nuanced and layered. His altruistic robot is entirely believable. His bratty man-child portrayal gets you screaming for bloody murder. I'm pretty sure this will be the point in his acting career that will shoot him straight into Hallyu stardom.
The guy was born to do action thrillers. I understand he wants to take on a variety of roles and break away from action thrillers. I just hope he doesn't abandon it entirely or it'll be a great loss to the Korean entertainment industry.
Watching Ji Chang Wook's Daejang in Game mode made me wish fervently for a military-themed drama with him leading his troops into confrontations.
I loved this movie. Gorgeous fighting choreography and action sequences. He does fighting scenes really well, JCW. Team Resurrection had great camaraderie that was entertaining to watch. I wished it was a drama series instead of a compact 2-hour movie. Then the plot could be developed more comprehensively with proper backstories for everyone, especially the villain. One would like to know how he turned into such an adept psychopath.
I'm an action-thriller junkie so I got what I wanted from watching Fabricated City. The violence and crime portrayed might be too much for the faint-hearted though.
Why are people hating on So Bong's character? She was a woman who had a dream of being a professional athlete. That dream had been taken away from her so unfairly by cheating, greedy people. Her future got ruined. On top of that she now has to live with a metal rod in her leg for the rest of her life. And people are wondering why she has developed such a cynical view on life and the general human species?
Imagine the potential character growth So Bong will have the chance to undergo by her daily interactions with Namshin III; a robot who is more human than real humans. The conflicts she might face falling in love with a robot, and what will happen when the real Shin wakes up, and what she will decide to do when finding out about the kill switch... Just give So Bong a chance. I think she has the right kind of physical attributes to pull off portraying this kind of character. Those saying how she isn't good looking enough as a female lead are just shallow. You can't have all leads be pretty damsels in distress.
Jun Jihyun is such a talented actress. Emotes very well, and has her own distinctive style in the delivery of her lines. Speaks well too, and never resorts to those high pitched screeching to portray excitement. Her voice just reminds me of honey on buttered toast, if that makes any sense. Being beautiful and glamorously so, is just the icing on the cake.
