I was thinking I have heard this synopsis somewhere then I saw it's translated novel name then it stuck me that this was one my first chinese cultivation novel that I read on novelupdate years ago ❤️😭 Also the novel ML had a harem I wonder what are they going to do here keep it single FL or keep the relationship vague
So far my favourite character is Mrs Yu. She is smart headstrong and a good mother. People would say she is overhearing but it's normal for mothers to be like this towards their son especially Asian ones and that too during Ming Dynasty where women had to suffer a lot
I hope the drama remains like this and ML don't become a doormat simp type of character down the storyline like in The Glory(where Neo Hu played the role) the story there was so interesting but unfortunately their relationship dynamics pissed me alot
Ngl I love type of shows showing 'making something of yourself out of nothing' especially when ML is also a bum 🤣 Also them falling in love like this is much more believable than other historical dramas
Lmao, weren't people crying yesterday that the ML had no screentime in the first few episodes?I watched 2 eps and he literally had plenty of screentime in Episode 1, and even in Episode 2 he was only a little less present. Y'all were just saying anything. 😭😭
I'm a straight guy, and I enjoy both male-centered and female-centered dramas. I like experiencing stories from both perspectives. Complaining about a female-led drama focusing more on its female protagonist is like watching a male-centered anime or drama and asking why the female lead doesn't have as much depth, why she's mostly eye candy, or why she gets so much less screentime than the male lead. Those stories are primarily written for a male audience and naturally prioritize the male protagonist. Likewise, this is a female-centered drama adapted from a novel written by a woman, with a female protagonist at its core. Of course the narrative is going to focus more on her than on the male lead. That's the premise of the story. Media discourse in 2026 has become exhausting. Instead of criticizing actual issues like weak writing, poor pacing, or inconsistent characterization, people jump to conclusions over things that are completely expected from the genre and target audience. Not every creative decision is a flaw, and not every preference is valid criticism.
Look, I get that fans of certain actors get annoyed when their favorite doesn't get much screentime or when the male lead seems reduced to a prop for the female lead's story. But this drama is only on Episode 4 - we're basically still in the prologue, setting up the world and the characters. Most importantly, the protagonist is a woman. Naturally, she's going to have significantly more screentime because the story is centered on her. It's way too early to judge the balance of the leads before the plot has even properly begun.
Novel readers how's the dynamic b/w leads is it like bickering type or completely trusting of each other? I am tbh hoping g for role reversal thing considering she is noble and rich and he is from merchant family. Please tell me this would true
Does anyone have more recommendations like these where FL is in more power as compared to ML (the said power could be in strength, money, intelligence, social standing). Would also appreciate role reversal dramas? It could be chinese, japanese, korean, taiwan anything as long as it fulfills the above trope
I can't believe some of these comments. People are acting like they've never had real friendships or relationships. Some say the ML should just be grateful to be friends with the FL because she's smarter. But if your friend or partner is more talented, richer, or more successful than you, it's completely normal to feel insecure sometimes. That's just human nature. If the ML suddenly stopped seeing her as a rival and never felt insecure, it would feel unrealistic. Not every story has to be a fantasy where people behave perfectly.
That said, I do think the ML casting is a bit odd he looks older than I expected. Personally, I was hoping Zhou Yiran would play the ML.
