To be honest, I can’t really blame the current emperor for being the way he is. He’s said to be the founding emperor of the dynasty, and considering that he was once an orphan who rose to power through bloodshed, it’s understandable that he eventually lost his sanity. Sure, he’s a bit of a psycho, but his obsession with shaping the ML into the perfect emperor makes sense — he sees the ML as the embodiment of his own ideal of a perfect ruler. He simply can’t bear the thought of the dynasty he built with such pain and sacrifice coming to an end like this.
