Kusi mnie Hard Boiled.

I wrote little thing in the comment on feeds but now, after a while I can say something more. I really enjoyed the film. It was full of symbols and I think I'll watch it again some day. It had great cinematography and fast paced. But to be honest I had two distractions - Lee Byung Hun 'cause he looked amazing in this film, he really can pull off dark characters like no one else; and OST by Radiohead, I had moments when I was listening to music instead of following the film. I don't think it's failure 'cause I like the band and music fit the film perfectly. Oh, and it had some gory action which was important part of the story.
Yes, I'm definitely a kind of cinephile but urge to watch some dramas is coming. I can't watch all the time films, some of them are not easy, even I need a drama relax ;)

So we have very similiar taste. I'm also not so sensitive to the gory action. I've already seen films considered to be quite disturbing, still more to go. But of course, I'm not watching gore for gore, it must have some meaning in the film.
I'm afraid I'm not so good with dramas. I can easily stop to watch them, I'm kinda imaptient. But well, it doesn't mean that after a while I won't watch them again and finish. Films are more something special for me, that's why I can't drop the film.

Some time ago I'd say I'm avoiding horrors too. But well, horror is very popular in Korea and Japan so it was hard for me to not watch it. But I totally understand why someone else can't. I'm pretty sensitive and it's so easy sometimes to make me scared. I had a hard time after "Ringu". But somehow I got back on the horror track and if there's some horror, I'm going to watch it. And my rule - if I start Asian film, I'm going to watch it to the end no matter what.

They even say that Japanese New Wave was insipred by French La Nouvelle Vague. French cinema has its place in history and we can be happy for their influence. They're introducing so many films so there's always possibility they'll go further.
It's always good to check Criterion's lists. They have really great collection of the world cinema.
When I was teenager I was watching a lot of films by Ingmar Bergman. Some time ago I was really familiar with Scandinavian cinema - I really enjoyed atmosphere of some films. I still have soft spot for Lars von Trier but I enjoy his older pictures, especially "Breaking the Waves" which is still one of my absolutely favourite films ever.

I'm satisfied with "Retribution" but it's 'cause I'm used to Kurosawa Kiyoshi - he's not making films to scare but to think about. After this film I was a bit devastated. "Reincarnation" had decent idea with a nice twist but it wasn't that good, I gave it "fine" anyway. In weekend I'm going to watch "Ringu" and "Dark Water". I'll face my old fears. Today I'd rather to watch next ep of drama or some older film. We'll see :)

Yes, recent ones are not subbed and that's also my nightmare. I have Nakata's "The Complex" and it has subs... but German. Now I'm waiting for English ones.
Director of "Fighting Elegy" was also well-known director of yakuza eiga ;) It's my cup of tea too so I understand you fully. If you want some noir touch you can check "Pale Flower" by Shinoda Masahiro. After checking Kurosawa, a must is to see Kobayashi Masaki ;) Personally, Kobayashi is much closer for me. If I good remember you've seen his "Seppuku". Anyway, he also made noir film - my beloved "Black River".
There's so many films to explore :)

No problem :)
Yesterday I watched "Fighting Elegy" directed by Suzuki Seijun. Amazing that film was released - it was total criticism of Japan before IIWW. Pretty stunning work, a bit hard to describe 'cause it's sometimes comical and you want to laugh but at the end you're pretty far from this. Now I'm going to watch my horrors on DVDs. But in the meantime, I can get the urge to watch something else ;)
Getting old taiga doramas is so hard. I'd love to get three series from 70', really.

W sumie dla niego zaczelam ogladac XD Ladne ciuszki nosili (no a jakze by inaczej). No i tyle. Dalam rade po prostu.
ps. i znowu nie dam rady sobie przypomniec imion aktorow... a nie, Do Seo Young to pan drugi. Tak, jego imie pamietam... chyba XD

Juz wole "Thorn Birds". XD

To trzeba doswiadczyc XD
