It was love at first sight. I just watched "Seven Samurai", then decided to watch another film, and another. I can consider myself as a cinephile, I love everything around Japanese cinema. I gave chance for Korean, I love it but there's still so many Japanese classics to watch. And older cinema is really meaningful, you can get from them so many things. It gives wider perspective on the culture too.

I have to watch "Paradise Kiss". Yes, I'm going to watch for my eye candy, Mukai Osamu. We all can have some shallow moments and be happy with it ;) I'm totally unromantic person so any rom coms etc. are not for me. But how I survived kdrama "Thorn Birds"? I have no idea... oh wait, Joo Sang Wook, Seo Do Young and Han Hye Jin (for me she's really pretty woman, my "type" lol).
And yes, you're in denial but don't worry, I'll help you. And btw, it's good that you scared that you need, for example, hide. It means you're still sensitive for it and I think it's good. I don't want to be in a moment when I watch many horrors and don't feel scared anymore. I want this rush ;)

Of course, horror can be "lovely" but only few people can understand it (ok, I'm weird, lol).
It's time for you to tell to yourself - "I'm horror fan". You can't lie to yourself anymore, I'm telling you. You must admit it ;)

You're favourite is "In the Realm of Senses" - I already love your taste. This film is simply amazing. Still haven't seen "Woman in the Dunes", before I want to read the book. At the moment, I should read things not for pleasure. Still, I have time for good films.
Big plus for liking Lee Byung Hun too ;)

Hello :) I'm a huge fan of old Japanese cinema, it's so rich in themes, kinds and have a lot of meaning. From those films you can even learn what problems Japanese had after IIWW. I'd say that their classics were a way more "open" about subjects which are now not so popular. Of course, not all films, some still are kind of propaganda but still, if you watch carefully you can see many things and struggles of the society.
I still haven't seen "The Ballad of Naraymama" and it's on my long list to watch. But before this film I want to see earlier works of director - Imamura Shohei.
It's really nice to meet you :)

I wanted to say yes but not exactly ;) I really like both but because I watch so many oldschool jidaigeki, it's hard to watch productions which are now. But also soon I want to start oldschool historical dramas like "Kage no gundan" (from 80'). You can see I'm really classics fan.
I was thinking about seeing this film. I'd love. I should watch it soon :)

I've seen Japanese historical dramas but never ended it. I watched NHK taiga dorama "Gou". I plan to watch two seasons of "Jin".
Sangeuks ;) But more into modern history like IIWW, occupation of Korea than epics about Korean "middle ages".

Yes, I have more to watch Japanese, and there's more genres. I'm ready to watch some melodrama or anything like that too. But I must be picky with Korean ones, they have a way more cliches. We can't avoid it anyway but at least we can find something else to keep us interested.
I wanted to end my film, but now I want to watch next ep of "Capital Scandal" ;)

I just started "Capital Scandal". I'm going back to watch dramas but I'll be very picky (still I want to end "Hungry" 'cause Mukai is... just hot, lol). "Capital Scandal" seems amusing, not exactly showing how really it was while occupation of Japan but still, I like the setting, music, clothes etc. They're not talking how Koreans were at those times but well, story is fine so far. I can't watch all the time serious stuff, lol.

Hahaha, lovely answer about how ;) I shouldn't have time for learning Chinese but somehow I found it. But truth is Japanese I left for a while (I mean no learning regularly like before) 'cause with Chinese I can have native speaker. Sensei of Japanese is Polish and in other school they're not making individual lessons.

C'mon, you're not curious how they're going to screw this? I'm awful, but still I can't believe to make masterpiece remake, it has no sense. That's why it's hard for me to see "Harakiri: Death of a Samurai" - "Seppuku" is not masterpiece too, by Kobayashi who's one of the best Japanese directors ever. I don't know what Miike took to make such remake, lol.
Horrors are in the blood ;) At some point I was scared of horors but always loved to read about them. Not a long way to start watch them and liking this fear ;) And I still haven't seen Exorcist! I'm too "scared". I just can't stand this possessed girl's face, it brings me chills. For a long time from horrors I liked slasher, not so many supernatural stuff 'cause those things are totally impossible to control. What a weird thoughts I had, lol. I still have a fear of ghosts anyway but can't stop from watching Asian films ;)

Yes, but not always have heart to end them. Now I'm a bit determined for "Capital Scandal". At the moment I'm trying to watch, for example, historical ones, with some specific setting.

No yakuza at all ;) It's "The Face of Another" directed by Teshigahara Hiroshi. Script was written by famous Japanese writer, Kobo Abe. One of the New Wave films, hard to say what genre it is. Kinda science fiction I'd say.

I'm curious about this remake but... seriously, how can you make a remake of the masterpiece? How? And also they made "The 47 Ronins" with Keanu Reeves. Ok, this one I'll see 'cause director said he haven't changed the original ending. Of course, flick is fantasy with some Japanese setting.
My question is why they like so much horrors ;) Yeah, digging in psychology and sociology. But anyway, horror as s genre is everywhere, in every country someone made or is making those films but definitely Japanese and Koreans are the best. They have pretty nice stories and I still have a fear of girls with faces covered by long black hair, lol.

Like two years ago or a bit less I'd say that horror films are not for me. When I was a teenager I watched "Ringu" and it scared me, really scared. I was covering my TV with a towel! But now, few years back, extreme films were calling me. I'm thinking about watching "Ringu" again XD I have few borders what I wrote in my profile. But if you're a fan of Asian cinema, you must stumble on horror/thriller etc. because it's their mainstream. In no other place in the world horror can be called as one of the most popular genres. Some time ago I read article on the blog where girl wasn't understanding that Korean TV is so strict and not showing any extreme stuff but in the film, you can find so many horrors, thrillers with really violent content. I have my own theories on this subject - yeah, I love to dig up in such stuff but I'm sometimes afraid to not hurt someone. So serious now, lol.

Of course I don't mind. And I found in myself need to share with my thoughts about films ;)
I have mixed feelings about Miike in general. Once he makes deep symbolic films which are not always easy to watch and then blockbuster. But to be honest, I respect him in this case. BTW, "Lesson of the Evil" was directed and written by him, I'm impressed that he could make really classical genre in oldschool way, with memorable characters.
"The Happiness of Katakuris" is also the film which I want to see. It had nice reviews.
ps. before watching "Lesson of the Evil" unfortunately I saw reviews. They weren't too good. But it was simple slasher, I'm surprised that they didn't notice it :P
