I voice my issues with things like these directly on Chinese SNS.
In general, there is actually movement in cdramas. It is definitely not as bad as it was when I was a teenager and there are more female orientated movies and dramas. But I see no reason why one cannot discuss in both places.
Having read the novel, all I can say is that if I were YZ, I would be really pissed they wrote this moment in this way. The comments on Chinese platforms are not nice at all. She got screwed over because all the screenwriter had to do was follow the novel and add a conversation about her needing better communication from him, which would have rounded up her character's growth. Instead they gave her this. Unbelievable. But perhaps the consequence of it being an older show.
Anyway, my dissatisfaction has nothing to do with XZ and everything to do with the content.
I watched DC because of the original novel, Douluo Dalu. It actually has nothing to do with XZ. And yes, I hated it and rated it appropriately, again regardless of XZ, as I will do here.
I will simply never tolerate physical violence of this kind. China is a country with huge problems when it comes to this. It has been made worse by years and years of toxic relationships constantly portrayed in dramas. Violence, assault, rape. All of this has "passed" for way too long in cdramas. The issue of consent and in general, violence, is appallingly badly depicted. This show does not get a pass because it's a woman doing it and because GW wasn't injured. Then on top of that, in general mental health issues treatment, stress etc ... Yeah, no pass because it's XZ 🤷
I don't know many ppl being mature in their early twenties Biologically...our frontal cortex...the judgement part…
Both of you definitely sound like you have grown and matured, which is great.
But this is a drama, not real life so the conversation is happening. I see no growth in the FL and I see no way where an adult man stays with such a person long term, married, which is how this drama ends as we all know. It's not believable to me.
If they broke up and one day met and said oh, I understand some things better now etc, I would believe that. A perfect, happy ending? Nah.
And I definitely have a very particular problem with physical violence, especially considering the wider context of China and the way it is often framed in cdramas.

It absolutely is a typical Chinese drama but it doesn't mean I have to be ok with it just because it's typical. In fact, toxicity, both male and female is the primary reason I don't watch romcoms.
As I told you, I was ok with her immaturity in the beginning and all the things you mentioned were signals she was maturing slowly. And then when it mattered the most, she was awful.
It's just how I see it. And just another in a long line of reasons to not bother with cdramas when they are romance.

The only character who has been the bigger person throughout this drama was Gu Wei, it certainly wasn't her.
That is exactly why divorce happens, yes but is that the point of this drama then? Look how incompatible they are, divorce is around the corner?
I have said he had flaws and clearly wrote that out. But she has been highly immature from day one. I didn't have a problem with this at all precisely because she is young and the idea of character growth is much appreciated.
So what happened in the moment of a major crisis? She was all about herself, verbally and physically abusive. Awesome character growth. Yes, actually I guess this is heading for a divorce, you are right.

GW is not running away from his problems. Thank you for demonstrating a basic lack of understanding of people like him.
That doesn't mean that he has no flaws. He definitely needs to work on his communication and this is where he could have done better.
But a woman in an adult relationship will not act like a spoiled brat whose only reaction will be me, me, me.
No, she will express empathy and understanding, and support him through a traumatic time. When this is done, she will sit down and explain the issue to him, proposing they work on their communication.
But instead we got verbal and physical abuse. Great mature reaction to his trauma. Would totally be tolerated by an adult man /s

Sure she is a perfect candidate for him, mhm. Please act like this when in an adult relationship with a mature person. Make sure to come back and tell us how long it lasted.
Oh and just because the screenwriter wrote something does not mean I find it even remotely believable.
Novel version is much better than what they did in the drama but Chinese dramas are often peppered with toxicity…
I actually liked her character more than his in the novel and held her side so I find myself so disconnected from this version where I have no sympathy for her at all at this point.
They really trashed this part of the story. They could have written her offering support to him and then when things calmed down, explaining what hurt her and why more communication from him is necessary. Instead she verbally and physically absuses him. I don't know who this woman is but it's not LZX. They share the same name, that's it.
GW constantly apologising is definitely OOC and novel aside, totally unbelievable. But that's very typical cdrama. It's a shame because I think this part, how she handled it in the novel, would have shown her growth compared to the start of the drama. Now I really don't think they will address this issue at all. I wish I was wrong, but I don't think so.

The FL is the very definition of immaturity. I had hoped that she would evolve which is why the start of the show was very ok for me but unfortunately it got worse, not better. I agree that her family situation doesn't help, at all, but that just leaves me with the conclusion the ML has no business being in a relationship with a person like her. His job is always going to be highly demanding and stressful and she has no skills to cope with that or to support him when necessary.
No at all. IMO, SOME are xiao zhan’s hardcore fans that can’t handle their hero when he’s in the most pathetic…
You are condoning violence here but I should think about it from a woman's perspective? Next time, try using sock accounts. You will be more believable 😂
So? Guess what. We teach children in kindergarten that physical violence is not all right and lo and behold, they are capable of grasping this notion.
If a 21 yo male hits a woman good to know he is off the hook because he is 21.
Even if you think that 21 is somehow an excuse, that just means she has no business being in a relationship with an adult. Or any relationship. Never mind considering marriage.
It seems this was the novel version when LZX found GW in ep 27 TV Ver (https://twitter.com/madetolove1991/status/1508844681920225280?s=21&t=5peee79yBwxF1GUplRyvfw)…
Novel version is much better than what they did in the drama but Chinese dramas are often peppered with toxicity so I am not surprised they messed this up.
She is not going to turn a new leaf. She will remain the one who is in the "right" and he will accept her as a flawless goddess that he will tolerate forever no matter what she does. It is always like this.
So this drama is just another c-drama with Toxic Self-absorbed Mary Sue FL and too good to be true ML that’s…
Yes. In reality, the chances of a character like the ML staying with the FL, especially after the last episodes are exactly zero. This is the usual wish fulfilment that is once again being shown.
The ML does have flaws but they get invalidated in a way because his actions towards her are very unrealistic; he accepts things no adult, successful man would. His career line is good and that's actually a well done part of the story.
To make a bad thing worse, she actually hits him and that's ok with people here because physical violence is awesome and a verbal and physical assault is a great way to reach traumatized people /s
I am sorry to say this drama took a major dive in quality for me. I was enjoying it very much but the FL characterisation is a major no for me. Can't be helped I guess, hopefully in the future cdramas will drop this type of immature female characters as something desirable. Me, me, me is not an endearing trait. I suppose it would be more acceptable for me if she were in a relationship with another very young adult but like this? Absolutely not. Pity. Not to mention the whole violence thing.
Ep 12-14 is also tough for me to get through. He is heart broken, vulnerable and his smile is gone. 😥
But your enjoyment of the show remains intact so fast forward ftw 🤣🤣🤣 We should write a guide for watching cdrama. Alcohol plus chocolate plus FF = nirvana

And it's incredibly funny you are addressing this to me of all people, a person who trashed Douluo Continent both in ratings and comments here on MDL.
Keep going, come on 🤣🤣🤣

She is an awful character for me but hey, keep cheering on immaturity, selfishness, physical and verbal violence as desirable character traits👌
