It sure wasn't announced as a slice of life drama and nobody expects that in China, nor thinks that it is. Looking up, even here that's not what the tags are.
It was very clearly announced as a work place related and then romance related drama. If they are selling something else now, that's a different matter.

They can tell the female lead story through her and Sheng Yang.
Bluntly put, I am here for Sheng Yang and then him and Jian Bing. I am not here to waste two episodes on the others. I am speeding through 7 now as well because exact same issue. If you like group portraits that's great. I don't. I want the main lead, which is XZ and then the two of them to be the focus. Not this 🤷
Way too much focus on the ex-husband in episode 6. I am not sure I understand these writing choices. I think I double sped through two thirds of the episode. Police drama over irrelevant people. Not remotely enough of Sheng Yang.
It's surprisingly serious. I have finally finished the fifth episode and the screenwriter, so far, has done an amazing job. The comedy is perfect to lighten up what is actually a serious drama.
Her struggles, according to her age, are quite heavy and the way they are covering a marriage falling apart is hurting me because it's real. She is a mature woman and she is about to put aside ten years of her life but damn if I wasn't cheering for her the whole time. I am so glad they are showing a woman who is unafraid to take that step in self-care and self-respect.
Not to say his work issues aren't a genuine problem but they are fitting his age, where he is still a relative beginner and doesn't have enough power to deal with that. A lot of us had to take it from bosses like this and we could do nothing but bend our heads and wait. It will be good to see how they mash their lives together with the age difference, something the show is constantly keeping in front of us, and the difference of experiences that shaped them.
Both of them are acting the roof off the house! Finally for me a balanced pairing for Xiao Zhan in acting. Give me more please!! Btw their chemistry is 🤌🤌🤌
It was actually really funny because on Douban we usually guess ratings via poll and the amount of people who chose under one was huge, some went to 0.5. But really it was a pleasant surprise for me too. Tomorrow we are going up against basketball so hell continues 😂
So I am guessing people here don't know but the school is starting and CCTV has a show on CCTV1, First day of school, that is obligatory for children to watch (you have to have pictures and video and a whole report about it etc). Anyway, this usually kills the ratings.

Hopefully this will mean a good trend for the follow up but it was way higher than anyone dared dreamed about. Cross your fingers people, it was a good start.
